the only baritone compared by franco corelli with bechi is kim josephson, a student of trimble. it is the open, easy production of the tones and the clarity of the language that matter. the support method allows the throat to remain totally loose and free.
One of the great Italian dramatic baritones. Bechi's resonance, timbral richness and resounding acuti put virtually every contemporary baritone to shame:) --
Was there ever a baritone with SUCH a clear balanced sound? He reminds me very much of the great Mattia Bastistini. That beautiful beautiful bel canto technique they both possessed. Such elegant expressionist are rare truly nowadays
Anyone who thinks these voices are nasally needs to get their ears checked!

I consider Bechi as overrated. His tone is too nasal and too little "bodily" for my taste. Sure, a great singer, God bless him, but there are better ones.
Dear Reduxmisc,by all means,if possible, please post more Gino Bechi. He was such a marvellous baritone.Hugely popular in his home country but virtually forgotten here in the US.Personally,I like him as much as the great Bastianini or Leonard Warren.Grazie mille for posting this superb aria. One of Verdi's best.
really thank you for your good taste and my enjoyment.
What about American "contemporary "culture""...
if one has a guitar to cover his testicles while swinging his arm and farts into a mike, he is a singinf star. The mob doesnot worth to take into an account when jidging ART.
Yes,please, more Bechi. Usually I prefer Gobbi, who is more "expressive" and subtle. But undoubtedly Bechi had a better voice. Where I live there was always a Bechi party and a Gobbi party. I am a Gobbist enjoying Bechi in secret...
What a pleasure to listen the warm voice of Gino Bechi. It is essential to diffuse all the possible documents on this great perhaps the greatest barytone.
His complete Chenier is unbelievable.

Glad you liked it. You've inspired me to put more Bechi out there for people to enjoy.
Very Interesting about Corelli's comment.

Bravo Reduxmisc ~
I had the pleasure of studying technique with (Franco) Corelli in Milan after his retirement form the MET el al and then again briefly in New York.
After one of of my hour lessons I asked him casually whose voice he most admired and, without hesitation, Corelli said: "Gino Bechi."
You are most cordially invited to visit some of my videos as well ~ Andy Rawn
