Memorable tune from the chart-topping Arrival ABBA album of 1976. Wonderful fusion of instruments and voices, and the nostalgic, catchy melody that i think has its roots from Swedish traditional music???
Memorable tune from the chart-topping ARRIVAL album 1976. Wonderful fusion of instruments and voices, and the nostalgic, catchy melody that i think has its roots from Swedish traditional music???
"Ode to Dalecarlia" as it was first named. Dalecarlia is the latinised name of the part of northern Sweden called Dalarna, famous for it´s folk music and deeply important role in Swedish history. The home of midsummer feast, dance and music!!! Benny, I think, was making this music.
Well done AbbaChick!...this song is perhaps one of the most powerful from ABBA....And it's nice they were inspired by their land ..as an immigrant I always felt so touching when someone remembers his/her place where we come from...Keep up !..

krejcik666 - I think Oldfield did not make a cover of it, it was written for abba by Oldfield. Anyone know better? Oldfield wrote the song while too young to agree legal contracts such as selling his own copyrights. So, later he decited to use the song, ABBA were not happy about it, of corse, but due to age the original agreement was meaningless. But, anyway, great song and great perform by ABBA.
i heard the pipes and drums of the argyle and sutherland highlanders and the band of the Royal Marines do this, if you can find it, LISTEN to it, its magical
this was one of my mothers favs songs and it was played as we walked into her funeral last year and this is the first time i have heard it since then omg i am crying as i type this
@k0smon This is an original song written by Bjorn and Benny of ABBA. It's an ABBA original, the title track of their album Arrival. According to B & B, It was influenced by Swedish folk music.
Damn... ABBA were a band FAR ahead of their time, and now we can only live with the memories. The music is timeless. It is just as modern today as it was 35 years ago! Thank you ABBA - thank you for the music.
@abbachick Dalecarlia is not a person but a region in central Sweden. In Swedish that region is called Dalarna. Its a region famous for fiddle folk music!
'Dalecarlia' (only one 'r'): "dal" = 'dale', "karl" = "churl, guy'; "dalkarl" = 'dalesman'; "Dalecarlia" = 'the place the dalesmen come from', i.e. the Dales, an old construction from the Swedish from the days when Latin was the language of learning and international communication
Hi! Dalecarlia is sometimes used as the english name of the swedish province Dalarna. A lot of the traditional swedish music and midsummer traditions are connected with Dalarna.
Orsa spelmän in BAO are from Dalarna, Orsa is a small city (village) in the middle of Dalarna.
Always loved 'Arrival' instramental, as it showes the great song writing ability of B&B. I love your slides in B&W too, as it does go well with this great song. You found some pictures I hadn't seem before as well. Great job my friend! Very nice Helen!! 5*'s & fav
Very nice Helen. There are times when songs without lyrics are the only way to go, and this is one of those times. This song announces the "arrival" of one of ABBA's best albums. And I know what you mean about the B/W pics because they are also a favorite of mine. Once again, very nice work!

Two instrumentals were released. This one heralded their arrival on the international music scene. It sounds like bagpipes.

May I recommend the book 'An Essential Guide To Music In The 1970s' by Johnny Zero. The author is a big fan of this fine instrumental.

@doddibraga No. This is entirely an original song by ABBA. Oldfield made a cover much later and had nothing to do with the writing of it.
