Baby John was danced by Elliot Feld. I agree this is the best block choreography I have ever seen on film. The dancers are totally committed. For example there is a sequence in which the girls are dancing upstage of the camera with 3 of the Jets and all of them are dancing their hearts out while just being in the background. Very impressive! This is still viable choreography and it is 50 years old.

I knew for a long time that Baby John was very ill and that they made them do this dance over and over. God bless him, how was he even standing? Sadly Tucker Smith (Ice) died at 52 from Aids and Cancer.

Best choreography I've ever seen and best number in the whole movie. Baby John (blond, brown jacket, blue jeans) had pneumonia while they were filming this number and was taken to the hospital as soon as it was finished, but still gives an unbelievable performance.

I LOVE Ice. Personally my favourite Jet. He's so calm and quiet and then he takes control. I wish he was in the stage show, and Tucker Smith was such an amazing singer/dancer/actor. This is my favourite number in the whole show, and the choreography in this film here is flipping amazing!!!!

This is an AMAZING scene. One of the greatest in Musical History. The emotions in this song are so epic. It fits that musical criteria "When the characters feel so much emotion and have no other way to express it, that's when they should sing." I had a Proffessor tell me that once. And I agree. And this song is a perfect example of that.

Why did they change the placement of this song during the plot for the movie? It's originally in the 1st act with Riff singing.

@brisw28 They switched the order of Officer Krupke and Cool. They felt that "Cool" after the rumble and the deaths of Riff and Bernardo kept with the reality of what was happening. In the play, Officer Krupke is after the rumble. However, they felt, for the movie, that the kids would not be intending humor after two deaths. it makes sense for "Cool" to be after the rumble.
