That picture with Hungry George, Kenny Richardson, and the third fellow...is that your Dad...looks like him. Also the 600 American, is that the old S66? that Papa John used to operate?
Yes, it is my dear old Dad. The shovel is the S-12, I think. Taken in 1975. That is Papa John at the controls. I have a picture of Ches on the S-10, too.
I have a slide of the S-10 where Ches was backing up and of course one side is disconnected and the driving chain broke. The unit went down the road and rolled over onto its roof. Must have been back about 1970
Very cool pics you have and a cool lil vid you put together. Five STARS from Me *****
My logging Proffesor would have passed you for just making it on logging...but when you put a Madill or two in there he would have given you an A+ for sure now! LOL
Two of my teachers from the Forestry Program at Malaspina University log up there on the QCI's.
I have been there but only on the Commercial Troller I worked on in 1986, and the Dive Boat I worked on in 1989. I wish I could say I have made it back, but not yet...it is on the list though.
I love it up there. Some of the Deer may be smaller, but some of the fish are much bigger too!
We have tons (literally) of heavy machinery up here. 11 off-highway trucks visible from where I sit right now! Plus a faller buncher, Cat 980, a log loader, all kinds of good stuff!
yeAH ive driven by the lignite mine and the machine is so big that you have to take a breath its just that big when i get a chAnce ill drive up there and take a video
Awesome pictures, thanks for posting! That old cable shovel was pretty cool. What era would that have been? The 324D on the lowbed is a sweetheart of a machine.
It is awesome that you are collecting and preserving this history and it is great that you are posting so much here for others to see - thanks - keep up the good work. I know it takes lots of time - know it is appreciated.
Glad to know that others enjoy this stuff as much as I do! Be sure to watch the stuff I just posted. I try to bring my camera along wherever I go, so I have some pretty cool pictures in my collection.
in that picture at 0:37 Those pickups are a dead ringer for mine, grey primer, west coast mirrors and all!

The shovels were used here until about 1984. They built a LOT of road up here!
