The Andrews Sisters, whose popularity began in the late 1930s and continued for more than 10 years, far exceeded the fame of either the Boswell Sisters or the Pickens Sisters - yet the southern accents of both the latter groups strongly influenced the Andrews Sisters, which they acknowledged.
@neworleansrandy - Dunno why, but I think Lawrence Welk had the Pickens Sisters in mind when he presented the Lennon Sisters. There is a languidity both acts.
Hello 78Timothy: Your comment may have helped me find something I've been looking for, for years. Does the record have "You've Got That Thing" in the medley. It was a childhood favorite disc in the early 1940's. Could you would you post it PLEEZE! I'll add you to my subscriptions and be notified. Thanks
I like this song. I first heard it in the movie lady in white, it was made in 1988. It drove me nuts because I didn't know the name before, and I couldn't find it.
Indeed, the Boswell Sisters had very pronounced New Orleans accents. If you listen closely they come across loud and clear. Perhaps because their material was so jazzy that the accents were somewhat harder to detect.
The Pickens Sister's sweet Georgia accents are an interesting contrast to the Boswell Sister's New Orleans accents as well as their eerie harmonies. Please post more of the Pickens!
Love the b&w images, though I cannot name the locations--maybe London? Paris? NY? Bydgoszcz? All? Another favorite song from my college days ; ovbiously a revival from its 30's origins. (I'm not THAT old!)
i first heard this song when i was a kid in the old mighty mouse cartoon when he was trying to save his girlfriend.

nice to hear yet another sister act trying to be the Boswell Sisters. Not as sophisticated but they're pleasant, though.
