  • A new hymn for Green...

  • Good news of Lorre Wyatt mending from his stroke - and working with his long-time friend, Pete Seeger, to create this awesome song. So good to see Pete having the energy and wherewithal to perform with such a strong stage presence at this stage in his journey (92 years!). As well - Pete's wife of 67 years, Toshi, is facing her own challenges - but, Pete's love and devotion seems to sustain them. Truly, let's hope we will all pull through these challenging times.

  • The strength of his voice and his presence is incredible, given his age. A lot of 50 year old singer/songwriters don't look or sound so good.

  • What a beast.

  • What is he 92 now? Way to hang in there Pete.

  • Saw some scroller thingy about a Studio version while watching this ... why? For crying out loud, the last thing we need is some studio engineer screwing up what Pete does best by trying to 'polish it up'. I've seen Pete live many times and they were some of the very best performances of anyone, anywhere, anytime.

  • Pete is probably the most honest musician, in every sense of the word, this nation has ever produced. Anyone who does not like Pete Seeger, is someone that I do not care to know, and hope to never meet. One of our greatest living Americans!

  • Thank love this song of Pete good one thank for sharing!!!!!

  • I don't know if it's just me, but I think there's something touching seeing an old man like him singing on stage at an age of 91. He has entertained people since 1939, almost 72 years. Well done, sir! ;-D

  • what's with the guy back stage opening all the bottles of wine? he's doing it kinda loud! quite a lot of wine too!

  • @SEANFIR Haha! True! Those wine bottles were signed by all the artists on the show, and auctioned off to benefit the Oil Spill cleanup efforts. The label was designed by Michael Stipe, and the wine itself was quite nice :)

  • Here in North Dakota, we are being fracked to death, thanks to the Bakken Formation--the biggest oil find in US history. I wrote a protest song, "Frack That Oil," which you can see on my channel. I'm not selling anything--just got something to say. It's available for free on my website.

  • I've been blessed with such an awesome revelation here today. I thank you Pete, and I thank you John from the Deist Review for turning me onto these most precious manifestation from God.

    What a great song!!!

  • Bravo Pete pour cette vie magnifiquement tournée vers la vie des êtres humains.

    Longue vie à toi !

  • very clever yet honest

  • Great song, Thanks, great new folk song....how about God, allah, adonoi, mother earth, etc in these times of religious rifts?

  • I have spent my life struggling to get the point across cutting with a loud boisterous dagger. And PETE cuts through the thickest of skins with a humble smiling flower ! What a unbelievable feat and gift he has !!

  • Thank you, dearest greatfather of music, for all the joy you have given me throughout my life. I sing your songs and I know you sing with me. Pete Seeger, may you influence many many more generations to come.

  • Go Pete - You're our hero for the River and our Valley.

  • The ONE man who really deserves the Nobel Peace prize but always over looked, please put Pete Seeger for Nobel Prize in your browsers and sign the on line petition.

  • yes

  • I always liked his Mister Rogers' esque simplicity and approach to things. Both he and Fred Rogers knew children really well, and some of those kids actually grew up to be the Folk singers of the '60's.

  • i was there - yay!

  • A 91 anni Pete Seeger canta la sua nuova canzone ispirata al disastro del petrolio nel golfo del Mesico

  • In 1957 I attended my first Pete Seeger concert and he so totally inspired me then. Who knew that music could change the hearts and minds of people? And here he is...over 90 years old, still inspiring all of us to reach for something better, something more noble. He is our public treasure!!! Thank you, Pete, for never giving up on us.

  • 'It's time to turn things around, trickle up not trickle down'

no more tax cuts for the over wealthy rich, it's time to tax them back the the Tax rates of the 1950s.

  • God bless this man

  • How cool he can just say "in harmony!" and the crowd does it.

  • 91, hearing challenged (What? He hears EVERYTHING!), able to hike daily and chop wood, COMMITTED and CARING STILL. What a national treasure he is! We are Still blessed to have him here!

  • Thank God for letting us have him for a few more years - we need him!

  • May God bless Pete for many more years to come.

  • Pete is THE HU MAN!

  • A true American hero, long live Pete!

  • Outstanding!

  • Thanks for the inspiration, Pete!

  • Hooray for Pete... courageous to the end!

God and all of us are counting on folks like him!

  • @clockguy2 - @clockguy2 - Ironically, it's the very freedom of speech and expression that Pete Seeger has spent a lifetime defending through his words and music that allows your criticism. By the way, there is not ONE political line in this lyric. And anyone who does NOT protest this oil spill, a massive assault to God's gift of the Earth, is either terribly and sadly misinformed, overly political himself, or seriously confused. Long live Pete Seeger, his music, and his message!

  • @clockguy2 That is one screwball opinion, fella. This time Pete's song is inconvenient to those who support the parasites known as Big Oil. He's on the side of truth, justice and the American way..."Super Pete".....love this guy...look, America...a REAL patriot.

  • @clockguy2 You're bought and sold. Easy as that. Show respect to Pete Seeger by ignoring his folk singing and banjo playing skills by not commenting on them. If you really knew anything about him, you would know that you can't separate them from the Man. Don't presume to piece him out bit by bit. Singing and playing are the way he teaches social consciousness. They don't work on independent levels. Your comment is condescending. I'm sure that I'm not the only person who resents it.

  • @dwhatsit, Is it not possible to like a person without liking everything about them? I love the guy. He's a talented banjo player that helped revive folk music (somewhat), that's all. The activist part of him that you obviously find enchanting, I find annoying. But, annoying people tend to get heard and sometimes get things done. Let's just agree to disagree and go have a beer.

  • @clockguy2 What a great and disarming response! If only all difficulties could be settled over a shared beer! Does the use of the word 'enchanted' seem to indicate fantasy? All my life Pete Seeger has influenced and emulated my Truths, politically and morally. Reality is in his messages. To me, his music simply provides the vehicle that delivers the message. Good to meet someone like you who can agree to disagree over a beer! Cheers!

  • @richardbarone Whoops, I just accidentally voted a thumbs down on you because I thought I was addressing clockguy2, who is the person I signed in for! Please ignore that thumb!

Artists throughout history have been the ones who have raised protest during oppression. They've been on the forefront of political change here in America and Pete is a Major Force. I think our close connection to expressing emotion makes us a thermometer for the People. We should never sell out as clockguy suggests.

  • "God's away on business" is also an appropriate song.

  • Whoa, I had no idea Pete Seeger was still alive. /shame.

  • @Fizbigibbins

you show that you are a monster by the words you speak.

Folks like you are on the way our...thank God!

  • 91! He's incredible. Hope I'm still singin' and playin' at 51 let alone 91. Congrats Pete.

  • Incredibly inspiring, stirring, moving.

  • This should be forwarded to all summer camps.

  • When drill baby drill becomes spill baby spill...

  • How fantastic. A call to action for us all. Proves once again Willie is right! "You Just Can't Play A Sad Song On A Banjo” "Bad news just won't hang around a banjo....Dismal gloom will just have to disappear...sad song just can't be played, so don't be afraid!"

  • Great Recording! Thanks for sharing. Drill baby drill = Spill baby spill. Love it!

  • Keep fighting the good fight Pete.

  • I was feeling just a bit blue this morning, not really important why, just forgot to look at the blue sky, I guess, then by chance something caught my eye, my ear and my heart - it was old Pete, my first guru, who taught me the true meaning of singing from the heart

  • @ChuckCliff Me too. It's time to roll up our sleeves and get to work, you know?

  • Thank you. That was exactly what I needed to hear.

  • Right on, Pete!!
