I'd like to know who did the animations for this game. Might have been TMS, or Toei, or another animation house that was virtually unknown, back in the 1980s.
Aside from that, this looks like one game that should have been remade for DVDs, as well as WiiWare, PSN, and Xbox Live.
KK C&D Asia? They did a lot of work for DiC back and the day and consisted of employees of both those studios mentioned. There's a place called "Co-Productions Database" that lists animation studios but usually non-Japanese works outsourced to Asian studios (like pointing out Thundercats was a Topcraft production)
This disrespect for the source material was a signature of Universal Co. Ltd's work. Their follow up title, Super Finnegan's Wake, contains far more space battles and Lizard Soldiers then Joyce's original novel featured.
Round Table Pizza, Menlo Park, CA 1985. Many a quarter was lost on this puppy (i think it cost $.50). I never saw anybody make it past the mummy in '85, so it was cool to see what happened next. I don't think i had ever heard the music before over the din of the revelers at RT, so that was kind of scary.
It's sort of ironic, but Dragon's Lair, which existed contemporaneously with Super Don Quixote, was better-animated. Ironic because this is clearly a Japanese effort, and Dragon's Lair was Western animation. These days, nobody pretends that Western cartoons hold so much as a candle to current anime.
Actually most of the animators would argue that the opposite is true. Lots of anime were clearly rushed in order to keep up with the manga. I guess it all comes down to opinion in the end though.
There are three different ROM revisions of the game software. This was the long scene version. The other two rom revision versions have shorter scenes to keep games time down.
My favourite Laser Disk (Dragon's Lair was in town for a very short time). Do you know there are many situations in the game where you may act differently and gain more points? An example? The mummy: right, LEFT (and not UP)... Or the giant at the first tower: left, up, sword and SWORD (and not RIGHT). There are many more... I was able to finish the game with more than 620000 points. Cheers ;)

Why did they bother including Sancho Panza? He does absolutely nothing in this game except run off the screen screaming.

Did DIC entertainment do the animation for this Looks a bit like The Mysterious City's Of Gold

@ninelivecat
DiC didn't animate Mysterious Cities of Gold. It was Studio Pierrot (Urusei Yatsura, Yu Yu Hakusho, Naruto)

The funny thing is, this game has almost nothing to do with the Don Quixote novel. They might as well have called it "Super Kim Jong-Il".

You may be right. Anyway I was playing exactly this version (so the long one)... You may try the tricks, I think they'll work.
