i use a drake with a drake if you use active tank youve got 5 minutes b4 your dead you have to killem fast in a passive tank they never kill you but itll be a slug fest cause you gotta sacrifice guns for that tank i have a weird mixture of the two and it works great if only theyd give an update to caldari drake and the tengu are the only true missle boats worth a damn for the caldari

@xtechx drakes arent too great for pvp. their strength is pve, they're a solo lvl 4 missions wrecking machine. but they dont do amazingly in solo pvp. in a fleet though, itd be a good idea to make them high priority targets

@XxobscurexX777 it doesnt take that long, depending on your learning skills and implants maybe a few weeks and at the most, one month... but to actually fight well in a battleship. gunna take a few months (i would think 2) but what i do to make it feel that I am speeding up the process is train on smaller ships with similar traits. i.e. train weapons and systems on a Drake to fly a Raven... hopes this helps

@Alb3lNox if your going solo yea... train up as much as you can, but in a fleet of +50 its all about putting as much guns on one target, and it wont matter if you spent 10 years training or 6 months when you get primary'd in a fleet battle you will die in a battleship, unless your repp'ers are quick and there isnt much lag. also, unfortunate for you, not everyone is as l33t as you with all lvl 5 skills.

@Alb3lNox I would recommend training to the minimum in the skills needed to fly a BS properly.... then work on getting those lvl 5 skills, I dont think CCP made the game to where you couldnt get into the action intel you had 10 years of training... if they did they wouldnt have much of a game, would they. believe it or not, I can fly a battleship decently. but I am always training, I am always finding new stuff to train to make my toon better in combat. and thats the whole point...

@SadoKurosaki The attacking is automated, so you don't have to aim, but turret weapons have a property called "tracking", which makes them more or less effective depending on your relative velocity, so you "aim" and "dodge" by navigating your ship carefully and well. I've beaten people with three times my character skill, who were flying ships worth ten times what I was in, just by working with range and spped and making sure my weapons and defenses were always working better than theirs.

You target a ship, click a button (your weapon) and it shoots the target. The chance to hit and damage inflicted is random, but the chances change with range and speed of target relative to your ship. Except for missiles, they are a lot simpler, but they take a while to get from your ship to your target. A small fast ship can literally outrun a missile sometimes.

Im slightly confused, Why would you run a active sheild tank on a drake? Just unusual to see is all. I run mine completely passive with a large buffer and it works quite nicely.

@Soleric It's unusual, but not unheard of. WIth the right skills and rigs, an active tank can be competitive, while freeing up low slots for ballistic controls for damage. You can also use an active tank with fewer mid slots, letting you tackle in PvP. From the vid, I'd say that pilot would have been better off with a passive setup, but no Drake setup could have gotten out of there or held up long enough to dock.

so now youve spent time getting your ship how you want it, it gives a feel of ownership and value, so when you go into player versus player, and the risk of losing it all is there, your blood pumps harder, your heart speeds up, its a rush, like drugs, or getting into a bar fight

Your right about the buffer, but dont forget you use resistant amps which decreases the em/kenetic etc damage from a hit. ships like the drake are perfect for passive tanking.
