  • 0:50 The fear, the fear that the difficult person has is the realisarion, perhaps that there are other people on the planet. That he himself has siblings. That he will have to share his mother with others. . Something he cannot bear the thought of doing; the fear that some part of his mother will have to go to someone else. . Selfish/narcissistic. They are living in the material world, only; they have no spiritual awarness. Can be helped by threrapy. . . Cheers. from, del-boy. .
  • Hey Bill, Thanks alot for posting all your videos.

I am an Engineer by profession, 25yrs of age. My colleagues are 40,45 n 60 yr olds. and its a mess !

one of them, is too high on the religion issue & keeps popping religious discussions by demeaning mine. I try to avoid but dont know how. Then he keeps tries to find (digs to find) problems in whatever I do.

plz suggest how to manage this impossible man ... !

    Thanking you in advance !

  • @luker324 if u dont mind me asking, what are the 2 religions? What is his and what is yours?

  • Makes sense - Reminds me of a quote: "Resentment is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to die!" by Malachy McCourt. You might enjoy some new information I have developed on the topic of staying clear, confident, and creative when dealing with difficult people and difficult situations. It has to do with which part of the brain we are coming from and how to engage others so that they shift from the resistant brain to the receptive brain. Google Bill Crawford, Ph.D. for more info

  • Good segment. I, like many people have to deal with tons of difficult people, but in this case it is primarily my neighbor. I'm tempted to invite him to lunch to talk about the issues we have, centering on his noise level. I wish it were that easy. We have come to a point that even though I feel I could properly handle the situation, I doubt he would be willing to speak with me. And, likewise, I'm not sure I could stomach sitting at a table with him. There is a lot of hostility between us.

  • i hope this helps

  • As a new line manager, I found this topic extremely useful. I have been the target of upward bullying. Having reached my level of tolerance, I decided I need to address the situation. With little support from my line manager I searched utube for videos of information and strategies in preparation. Yours has by far been the most engaging and strategic in first changing how I perceive/blame them & how to purposefully choose the energy to guide my interactions. Inspiring!

  • Great to hear - Congratulations for being open to new information and new ways of dealing with people. If you are interested in what I have added since this PBS special was taped, feel free to visit my website. Just Google Bill Crawford, Ph.D. and that should take you there. Plus, if you have the chance to recommend a presentation or training to your colleagues, maybe this would be valuable to them as well:-) Bill

  • Thanks Bill for you outstanding presentation on dealing with difficult people. It really enlightened me on some of the key aspects of handling people. Please visit India sometime in the future if you get a chance. We would love to hear from ya.

  • I would love to visit Inda - Do let me know if you see an opportunity for me to share my material with your colleagues:-) Bill

  • @BillCPhD : Absolutely Sir, I'll let ya know. Thanks :-))

  • Thanks dr phil really make me feel positive about life

  • My pleasure - Glad you found the info to be valuable. If you are interested in even more information (new and updated) on this subject, feel free to visit my website - Just Google Bill Crawford, Ph.D.

  • @BillCPhD What a fantastic insightful lecture - thank you for sharing it on youtube - since I am from Germany I would else never have had the chance to learn about your techniques of dealing with difficult people (so it means dealing with the "difficult" parts of ourselves ;-)). Through your powerful examples and explanations , I feel well prepared to use the suggested "tools" to approach and respond to "difficult people" differently and to change my behaviour. Your are a truly gifted man.

  • My Pleasure - Great to hear that this was meaning fult o you and I would love to come to Germany and present my new material on this subject if that opportunity should arrise. Thanks, Bill

  • i found this very very useful and enlighten and i have a manager that could use this idea as many of the staff have expressed concern about her ways of dealing with people. I will like an idea how i can introduce this to her. I have only just join the team as a deputy manager and does not want her to thing am trying to step on her toes. Am aiming to make the environment at work a warm friendly effective team environment.

  • Thanks for the kind words about my PBS Special - Your goal is a good one, and, having a manager change the way she deals with people is a pretty tall order. However, if you want to try, I would recommend letting her know that you have found an interesting video on getting people to listen to you and ask her if she would be interested in the URL? Of course, the other option is to bring me in to do a presentation on "Getting Other's To Get It!" :-) Hope this helps, Bill

  • thankyou Bill Crawford! such charisma, very wise.

  • thx bill. This will definitly help me fall asleep tonight and go foward with more wisdom. thx again
