This is a very difficult song to sing, especially for soul singers, even though JHUD and Marvin Gaye knock it out of the park. I can see Mary singin it, but not too many other soul singers. Whitney's version is the best, but that doesn't mean that everyone should try and sing it like she did. Not everyone has that kind of power, nor a 5 octave range.

A bit too much vibrato for my taste but her voice is beautiful. I don't like how they got her acapela out there, no backing track, no orchestra, no band or even a reverb effect. Just an over-compressed microphone. Which would makes this performance seem rather dull. This could've been 100x better with a least one of those elements but it's just an opener for the Marlins so nobody cares anyway.

This is doesnt work at all. Chrisette does have a unique style, but clearly she is fixated upon sounding just like her jazz influences that she has limited herself to just that style. Her voice is not nearly versatile enough really give this power house anthem the pipes it needs. But has she has attempted to make it her jazzy - so kudos for trying something different - But unfortunately, some 'classics' just shouldnt be messed around with.

I disagree. I believe this was a beautiful rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. Why do you have to have a powerhouse voice to sing this song? This song wasn't meant to be sung with all unnecessary flourishes that so many artists put in it. Chrisette doesn't and sticks to the melody and sings it beautifully. And about her being jazzy...that is who she is as an artist and what her voice is suited for. She knows who she is as an artist which can not be said for alot of artist out today.
