no one really touhed this game at my local arcade. at that point i knew the market was too diluted and longed for the days when everyone would get in line to play sf2 or championship edition.
This is still one of my favorite fighting games (though I have the PS1 version). Mostly due to World Tour. They should put that in Super Ultra Street Fighter 4: Omega Edition
i love street fighter games but they do make way to many versions of the same game street fighter alpha 3 street fighter alpha 3 upper street fighter alpha 3 max and hyper street fighter alpha 3 then the japanese versions too many too keep track off
@Koops2245 I think its, (first to last in storyline) Street Fighter, Street Fighter Alpha Series, Street Fighter 2 Series, Street Fighter 4 Series, and Street Fighter 3: Third Strike
DAM looking back at this game for Dreamcast, This shit must've been krazy online! Send your leveled up character online? Why haven't they bought that mode back for SFIV?!?! That'll get alot of people previously not into fighting games, into fighting games lol. It's a win/win situation. Oh yeah 4 player Dramatic battles would also be euqally epic! Bring this to us now Capcom, and I will pay another 15 bucks for Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition Turbo Max!!!
@dss103 that would've been epic, but capcom is fucking up with sfiv, it would have been great if they released ssfiv in august 2011 with all the characters BALANCED and those battle modes, and PARRY of course, alpha 3 modes + third strike gameplay + world tour online = one of the best fighting games of all time
@nandi075 WHOA whoa whoa...whoa! That's not one ot the best fighting games of all time. You put all that shit together and that IS the best fighting game of all time lol. imagine 4 dudes at the same time fighting with parrying? Parrying two dudes at the same time? holy shit! I think my head's gonna explode!!!
I see there's an adapter that allows you to use your Saturn controllers on the Dreamcast. It's called Total Control 3, costs around $20. My hands cramp up at the thought of using a DC joypad for Capcom fighters, so this is a godsend. Good Lord, there are so many good fighting games on Saturn and DC.
It feels good to hear another opinion of the controller because it's that terrible. I rarely get frustrated with a PS3-controller because you actually do the moves you want. But with the Dreamcast I feel lucky when I get the moves out one time out of five. It's also an art to walk without jumping or switch Gen's fighting styles by pressing all three punchs or kicks. Maybe I get this on the PS1, sigh.
im going to get this game!!! my question is what would u guys recommend? a ps1 copy and play it on my ps3 comfortly,wireless!, and of course nice controller for fighting games...or i got a dreamcast and can get it for it instead! i pros i see for dreamcast is better graphics compared to ps1 and better port i believe........what u guys think?
@litoariel Get the Dreamcast version and a Dreamcast. You can get a dreamcast for pretty cheap now and if you get a model that was made before 2000 you can just download the game and burn it to a CD-R. It will work if you do it right.
i passed hours playing this game in my ps1. they should make it for ps3 named street fighter alpha 3 reloaded or something in ps3 this game would rock. who else want it in the ps3?
Actually, Marc, you made a mistake with your review. This game was never online for the Dreamcast, like you stated. Sadly, none of the fighting games were ever online enabled for the DC. A shame really, because the Dreamcast had the greatest assortment of fighting games ever. But 32 and 64k modem connection speeds would have lagged unbearably for a fighter. Too bad they never tried to make them work with the rare broadband adapter.
@BlayzedBlue I know this version of SFA3 doesn't have online versus mode but there is another version (Japan only) of this game with the legend "For Matching Service" that is playable online (or was). Same for the other Capcom fighting games with the "For Matching Service" label like Vampire Chronicle and SSFIIX. Of course, this was only in Japan.
GR8 GAME!The SEGA Saturn version was better though,it was called ZERO 3 'cause it was only released in Japan.At the time it was the most arcade perfect game I'd ever played!The Dreamcast version was awesome to with the online mode!
SFA3 is my most favorite SF game! Love the World Tour mode and the Dreamcast version was the BEST! Especially with the Ascii Fighter Pad FT controllers! Sweet sweet SF goodness!
Cyclops"Hey Chun-li I swah you at the tunement...I mean tournament, tournament- I saw you there and... I just noticed your incredible hands. Don't take this the wrong way but let's shake hands, sometime, anytime. Nothing complicated. We don't have to make this a thing but I really want to shake you hand! What do you say?"
@delli2011 not necessarily as this and Street Fighter 3rd Strike are arguably the best street fighting games ever made. I usually prefer Alpha 3 over 3rd Strike, but then again the parry system in 3rd Strike is sooooo awesome.
@GamerX89X I don't even think alpha 3 and third strike is even comparable, third strike is Literally IMO better in every aspect, graphics, music[obviously] character voices are a tie, better story line, MUCH better character[tired of the same old tired cast] a MUCH better less broken combo system, third strike all around required more skill.
@zangetsue5150 alpha 3 was fun but not nearly as good as third strike.....it has a kind of cool combo system..but i even think SFIV is better.[than alpha ofcourse]
@AgrivatedKillah sorry dude,but sf3 was just to shitty and sloppy.not to mention,the the wierd ass characters whom made no sense.unlike sf3,alpha lets you choose your combo style.its that veriety of gameplay thats makes alpha the best series.alpha and sf4 is better than that pile of shit you call sf3.
@AgrivatedKillah they're the originals dumbass lol you don't know anything about street fighter.years later dalsim and blanka are still in street fighter.you know why?because they actually bring sense to the story,along with following the original story line.half of the sf3 characters look like a five year old made them up,and had high paying artist to draw them.sf3 made no sense
@AgrivatedKillah uh no,people hate it because it made no sense.character wise and story wise.btw,notice there are only three characters from sf3 that are in ssf4lol.and the best part is the alpha and original sf characters makes up the rest of the 35 character roster lol.yeah,shows how much the sf communty cared about sf3 lolololololol!
@AgrivatedKillah wtf are you talking about?ryu,ken,gouki,and chun li are the originals.and even with yun & yang the sf3 characters still only make up less than a quarter of the ssf4 roster.on top of that,yun & yang are only availible in arcades.apparentlly yun & yang wasen't worth the DLC on consoles lmao.they probably thought the sf3 character wouldn't sell lol!
i have the best version of sfa3 for psp all the characters of every version even the gba version all the stages all the music all the modes its awesome
honestly, considering what worthless abominations the 360 and PS3 d pads are it takes allot of nerve to call the dreamcast d-pad bad. I honestly rate it above the genesis which like the other two is too stiff and vague, although not as bad. I played allot of Capcom and KoF with the DC d-pad and its amazing.
This is the ultimate version of SFA3. I owned it yrs ago. I plan to get a Dreamcast system and games again. The only issue I had with this version was with the controller. I always wished I could use my Sega Saturn six button controller with it.
@zedo0 you can use "a sega saturn controller on a dc" with the use of a total controll 3 adpater.The prefer way to play fighters on the dc when useing a controll pad.
I like your chanel, but the few last videos are just "slideshows" on my (GAMER)-PC... it's only in this chanel... and it is not a pleasure to watch it...
I used to own this for the DC and it was beautiful. Agree about the DC controller - half the time I'd try to walk back or forward I'd end up jumping in those directions.
To be honest Capcom always has made a great coding job, when Street Fighter came out, there was a huge difference between Arcade games and Home console games, like day and night, and they did such an awesome job porting it to a lot of 16 bit consoles.. you didn't miss that much while playing it at home.. obviously the controller and that stuff, but unlike other game ports of the era, that one actually felt like if you where playing the same game at home and in the arcades.
I actually really like the DC controller for fighting games, but that's just me.
Also, am I the only one whose copy of this game would always freeze after about three continues on M. Bison in the arcade mode? It ALWAYS happened to me...I eventually got decent enough to get past him in fewer than three continues with my best character (Dan), but still...
Mark, this is actually alpha 3 upper (upper adds more SF II characters to the roster).
To me SFA3U is the best in the series huge roster, tons of moves, no having to chose just one super combo, it was excellent. (and the only game in the series where I can actually wipe the floor with shoto spammers.)
People need to stop bashing IGN...that's soooo 2007. If you don't like IGN, then don't read their reviews. But aimlessly bashing them b/c you wish millions of people read your reviews is just stupid.
Lol, I don't review games. In any case, there is a really good video of Zero 3 which highlights how good the Saturn version is on youtube. Just type 'battle of the ports street fighter', you should see it pop up.
@TheCommentGuy8 DC version easily. It's probably a 99% faithful port of the arcade. Meanwhile...the Saturn version is the BEST version of Alpha 3 and is seen as a PERFECT PORT. The PS version is quite good though, considering the fact that PS wasn't exactly great with handling 2D games. Capcom did a pretty decent job with the PS port.
The worst sreet fighter ever...

the reason why its called street fighter zero/alpha is because it is a prequel storywise of the events in sf2 hence the word alpha (beginning)

@dominickemilio1994 I had no idea. I knew she could do something similar in SF2, but not a full-on hadouken

I used to own this for the DC and it was beautiful. Agree about the DC controller - half the time I'd try to walk back or forward I'd end up jumping in those directions.

I wish more games tried to be this stylish in the late 90s, instead of that awkward period of ugly 3D graphics.

Awesome game as it is; I still prefer alpha/Zero 2. Both of which are in mame, minus world tour mode of course for alpha/zero 3.

finaly! more and more DC reviews!

This is one of the best Street Fighter games ever made; I even liked Sakura's story in this game, and I normally hate her.
Anyway, SFA3 is my all around third best SF game ever. After SSFIV and SF3 3rd Strike.
Oh, and yeah, World Tour Mode was super awesome.

This and MVC II are stunning games on the DC.

This game was the reason why I bought a PSP. Street Fighter ALPHA OWNS :D

Hope this game gets re-released as an xboxlive and/or psn arcade game with online play

People need to stop bashing IGN...that's soooo 2007. If you don't like IGN, then don't read their reviews. But aimlessly bashing them b/c you wish millions of people read your reviews is just stupid.

@djjuicylord
We do it to re-live 2007. That was a good year.

you should review the saturn version
believe it or not it actually plays and looks better then the dc version
young7yang 1 year ago
@young7yang
Problem is, have you seen the price of the saturn version lately?
Terramax 1 year ago
@Terramax
ok i see your point.. but still.. this is the definet version of street fighter zero 3
i think its worth it...
in any case suppose i was willing to donate to you guys to review how long would it take to get it back???
young7yang 1 year ago
@young7yang
Lol, I don't review games. In any case, there is a really good video of Zero 3 which highlights how good the Saturn version is on youtube. Just type 'battle of the ports street fighter', you should see it pop up.

which one is better, the PS version or the DC version?
TheCommentGuy8 1 year ago
@TheCommentGuy8 DC version easily. It's probably a 99% faithful port of the arcade. Meanwhile...the Saturn version is the BEST version of Alpha 3 and is seen as a PERFECT PORT. The PS version is quite good though, considering the fact that PS wasn't exactly great with handling 2D games. Capcom did a pretty decent job with the PS port.
