I don't think the kids will ever experience a show the same. The performance could be compared to an extremely powerful drug. It gave us all a different perspective of humanity and the unique ability of sharing interests in this wildly diverse world. I saw more than my mind could handle that night, and I don't think that kind of shared happiness has ever been created before. It's so sad to see this crowd not getting into the show. I just can't imagine that happening after what I saw in Carrboro.
Just thinking about the show is giving me butterflies. Please forgive my incessant declaration of love for this band. But I really do think something happened the night of the show beyond explanation. These snobby hipsters felt, for the first time in their lives, pure power, energy, and a communal love that was shared between all of us strangers. Most of the crowd stayed long after the show lingering, conversing, hugging, and trying to describe what they just experienced.
@FenderFanatic I cannot begin to explain in words the binding I felt with the audience and the band when I first saw them, my God. The United States needs a band like this, more, a show like this to go ballistic at. I walked out feeling cultured like I witnessed something that no one else has ever seen. But they need to see it first hand!
It was a true spiritual experience. The audience was so stagnant and boring for the three opening bands (Past Lives, Bellefea, and The Thermals), but after 5 minutes, all hundred of us were going crazy and not caring about anything but the moment. I'm really surprised the police weren't called, as at one point we moved outside as the rafters were climbed to incorporate into the drum solo. I've never been fed energy like this. The power of them live cannot be put into words.
Just saw them at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, NC. Just about everybody was there to see the Thermals open for them, including myself and my own party. I had no idea who these guys were, but decided to stay and listen to a song. The audience was full of hipsters who all got pissed at the beginning of the set, but eventually the entire venue (staff included) was following them around the whole property. Their performance was absolutely mind blowing and infinitely life changing.
@superawkward actually it's mostly the Toronto crowd I've been to a lot of shows up here and the majority just stand there....it's a real buzzkill. Maybe it's a cultural thing....I think the only music I've seen them get down to were some ska shows.

just because they flail like drugged up retards does not make them good , if that dirty fucking hipy touched me with his ass id fucking stab him. this guy is pathetic he blows snot rockets on people and bloddy scabs at people, fucking nasty , y does everyone talk so highly monotonix fucking sucks i said it
did you just ask why they play awsomely? wow. because they are one of the most awsome crowd pleasing bands ever. they are by far the best band i have ever seen live.
I just saw MONOTONIX open up for EARLY MAN two weeks ago at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC. they are without a doubt the best live band that I never heard of. they don't even play onstage, they only play in the crowd and it's totally out of control
I just saw them a few hours ago open for the Silver Jews and without a doubt, agree with this sentiment 100%. A wild time a sure thing at a monotonix show.
