FPS's suck. This is my view on it, because I believe that blowing crap up (namely other living beings) isn't the best thing that you can get out of gaming. Granted, it can be fun, but it's not better than any other type of game. Team fighting decreases the accountability of any of the players and takes out real skill. The different weapons that you use can easily alter the tide of battle, because if you have, say, a homing missile, then your opponents are as good as dead. Character limit reached
My, what enlightening points, sir! I did not know I could infact be an idiot, and your compelling argument as swayed me into a realm of self depreciation I have previously been unfamiliar with!
If all views needed to be stated and explained then topics would go on much longer then needed. For example someone has a conversation about Y to bring up, but an irrelevant conversation on X is already going; so Y is never heard because everyone has to take the time to factualize their opinion on X. Also this kills small talk.
Small talk is dumb. I don't know why people talk about things that they know no one cares about. Also, I don't understand why it matters that no one gets to talk about Y.
But the problem with your ideas behind views constantly needing to be discussed is that many people see debates (conciously or not) as some form of competition. As such, they will repeat the same reasons for their views but simply word it differently or, if emotions are running high, will resort to insults and even violence. I'm not sure if it's our competitive nature or us just learning the wrong things from DC, but politics, religion, and philosophy can make very dangerous discussions.
I ageee to a point. Like April's view on this though. If you don't know enough about a topic, you shouldn't have any reason to get mad over it. Of course this is easier said than done, but I guess the old saying can go here -- we can agree to disagree. I think this is significently different then passing things off as 'opinions' as it basically admits theres room for discourse, but it's not worth (or is too painful) to go into.
RPGs are strategic in nature (as opposed to tactical. Yes there is a difference). Thing is though, the strategy is pretty boring and obvious. But TECHNICALLY it exists.
I like doing things like low-level challenges and speedruns in RPGs- things that add a lot of depth to the game (I think) and require quite a bit more planning and thought (and even research) than a straight run-through. Obviously, anyone can beat any RPG by grindan for hours and doing the whole "use fire sword against ice boss" thing- but for my part, the fun comes from intentionally doing it the hard way. YMMV, of course.
Also, I tend to enjoy the storylines- but that's another matter.
I think RPGs suck as well and I'm more of the competitive FPS and fighter type (I tend to play RPGS all the time tho). Can you explain the difference between strategic and tactical RPGs? I can't see a difference.
Well. Lemme explain the real meaning between stratagy and a tactic.
A stratagy is an overreaching plan. Very general. "I will get in his face where he's least effective' "I'll destory his Eco", "I'll play get away". It can be more refined, but it's mor general. Tactics refer to actual manuevers and techniques used to implement these stratagies. Since RPGs focus on builds and planning, they're stratagic. Tactical RPGs are... just the name of a genre, though I guess they';re tactical.
I pretty much agree with this, yeah. RPGs generally are the "Green Eggs and Ham" of stratagy. The lets talk on RPGs covers my views on this pretty well.
Wow, thats how ive been thinking this whole time, but you really openend my eyes dude. I need to rethink how I view opinons. Thank you, I learned something :)
This topic has got me thinking. I am a person open to opinion, but my views are set in stone. I am willing to hear all side of a debate but when someone try to change my view I take offence. Example is say Coke or Pepsi? My opinion is Coke is better. Now all the Pepsi people will try to tell me other wise and fail. Even if you know the subject there is no way to change my opinion or view, but I am still willing to listen.
It's so hard to debate outside of the internet anymore though, because if you say something that the majority of people would find offensive, such as religion, millions of people would be on your ass.
Even if you voice an opinion or view, you'd have many a people shouting you down without even giving some sort of valid counter-opinion or view, therefore ruining the debate.
I know I try to debate when someone says something questionable. x.x

Please tell me you're talking about the Japanese style RPGS.
John66368 3 years ago
Oh yes I am. Though Western ones tend to suck too, just for various different reasons which are not as consistent as a lot of JRPGs.
And I definitely don't mean ACTUAL roleplaying. That shit rules. D:
kayinnasaki 3 years ago
Wait, Baldur's Gate 2, Morrowwind, Fallout, Ultima IV-VII, Planescape Torment, Star Wars KOTOR {the first one}, and Betrayal at Krondor suck then?
John66368 3 years ago
They have some problems. But they don't suck. Oblivion is stupid as an example though.
kayinnasaki 3 years ago
Hey, Like Oblivion too. :(.....Morrowwind is better though. XD

Also on the internet I find it usless to debate/express opinions with 10 year old because that is the way the majority of people act.
