Let me clarify: Every team loses fans when they're at the bottom, unless your life is hockey like in Canada or Minnesota (all respect for that lifestyle). But Pittsburgh fans some of the most die-hard in the states when it comes to a sport that isn't the most popular here. It took Caps fans 3 seasons with Ovi before they dropped their ties for their first jersey and realized they had a great player.

The ENTIRE NHL took a serious hit right before Sid and Ovi arrived. The only difference was that Sid arrived to a packed house in Pittsburgh. Ovi arrived to echos in DC. It took a city clueless about hockey about 3 years to catch on to the fact that they had a great player in town. That was my point, obviously you missed it.

The Blackhawks LOST money this year. After selling out all their home games in a huge capacity arena for a couple of seasons now, after all the playoff revenue which goes straight into the owner's pockets (players don't get paid during playoffs), they're still in the RED even in a big market city.

If you knew anything about the history of the sport you'd know one of the top players of all-time played in Pittsburgh for the better part of 22 years, winning 2 cups in the 90's, leading right up to Sid's rookie campaign. Jagr played there with 66 for nearly 10 years. They didn't have trouble filling seats.
