Of course she is in pain! Have you ever been in love? Barbara's voice is simply UNPARALLELED! (Sorry, I love Doris too, but Babs has everyone beat in my book!) And her looks are beautiful, just the way they are. When I think of all the young people that might live happily with an uncommon feature because Barbara Streisand paved the way and showed them how, I can only praise her! She is an inspiration inside and out!

With all due respect to Barbra...listen to Doris Day's performance, listed here: much more intimate, much more persuasive. Unlike so many singers, including Streisand and Sinatra, Doris Day cared enough for the SONG to get out of the way and let it use her to sing itself. There were no pretentious vocal histrionics. Her musical humility let her regularly get more out of a song than the writers even knew they had put into it. AND...with that extraordinary voice.

Well said. Streisand is a great singing star.

BUT, that does not mean she can do no wrong. She, like many other great singing stars, often indulge themselves at the expense of THE SONG.

They lose sight of the soul of the melody and lyrics. They become preoccupied with tweaking the song in order to "express themselves" when they ought to be expressing the unique essence of the song.

Ironically, some anonymous underappreciated studio singer who sang the vocals for a Victoria's Secret commercial did an infinitely better job of expressing the essence of "I'm in the Mood for Love" than Streisand.
