Polymeter and polyrhythm stuff is just a type of counterpoint, really. Technically drums don't count as counterpuntal, but it's the same idea. If anything is mind-opening, it's the unexpected and original (if only from new combinations of old ideas), and that's what I admire most in pretty much all art.
Only bad thing about your brain opening up to this sort of thing is after the first day POLYRYTHMS ARE BRILLIANT. But its like a drug and soon loses its euphoria. Then that new dimension you discovered, you start to notice its not new and was there all along, then the next step=boredom, but with boredom comes new discoveries. New discoveries but less.........shock factor.
people need to recognize math metal for its brilliance I've shown so many people math metal, but so many of them couldn't see the interest. maybe its all about taste in music, but damn how can they not hear how fucking rhythmically advanced it is, and why does that not interest them? people like things laid out for them on a silver platter. simple easy patterns that appeal to those who dont strive for progression are alright, but mozart didnt change music forever by writing like everone else
Its not about taste, Mathmetal in itself goes against the basic order that the average joe thinks in, people don't pay attention to the 4/4 or whatever rythem in the background, they hear it once and when it repeats the brain sort of logs it off, on top of that you have a lead part that keeps lying to the listener coaxing the brain to break normal pattern, but most people cant tap into those two streams at the same time, so to them they hear garbled mess.
Ive found the easiest way to open up that part of the brain for people is actually have them play a simple lead part of the song that goes against the normal grain of the base rhythm. When they can actually play that part, most people I've seen end up with a wide eyed bushy look as if they've discovered the twilight zone. All it is, is their brain opening up and being able to focus on a wider spectrum of things going on at the same time. Its an awakening of the senses so to speak.
keep it up pretty sick, music is my life too and math is the language of music... you might like some my shit i just posted of me and me homie messing around with some polyrhythmic and alot of dissonant chords, alittle rough but some of ties together real well, no real song intended though just riffs

@mawkheaf Yeah the average person doesn't want to have to think during listening. Only metal nerds like this kind of shit and I'm one of them.
