Windows 7 can be "Upgraded" fro Vista. You must upgrade with the same bit version though (32 bit Vista -> 32 bit Windows 7 / 64bit vista -> 64bit Windows7)
This upgrade keeps your files.
When beta expires August 1st, it won't run.
Windows 7 will not revert back to your previous OS installation, you need to reinstall your old OS, or install with the Windows 7 release ( which you will have to buy).
Thats a good thing. Companies who dont care about personal pride, and just want to make the best OS they can. There are a lot of things that OSX could learn from windows, but with osx, its apples way or the high way, and thats a major reason why a lot of people dont use it, because they dont give a damn who made something, they just want to be able to use it.
So thats why more and more people go from pc to mac? Microsoft tries plagiarize Apple but they fail, everything looks so ugly and unorganized on windows
If your terms of success go by how many people use it, then feel free to look at it that way to. Windows still has a market share of 88.68% vs mac's 9.63%.
i have windows vista and if i download this will it upgrade vista and keep my files or will i have to delete my files? and when the beta run out on July 1st 2009 will it go back to vista or will it ask for the full windows 7?
You will lose your files if you reformat, yes. You could burn them to a CD, or upload them to a website somewhere, but yes, you will have to replace them. That is unless theres some sort of install inside windows option (which i cant remember if there is), or unless you install it on a seperate partition / hard drive.
I believe the license will expire, no it wont go back to vista, I dont know what it will do. Personally I'd hold off on trying it if you're not 100% on what you need to do.
that's what I did. The new Windows 7 is actually not bad, and this is coming from someone who has sticked with XP and never gone to Vista at all. I can actually see all 4GB of my RAM now in 7, whereas I couldn't in either XP or Vista.
I figured as much. Getting more RAM availible would have to be done either in any 64-bit OS or Server 2003/2008 Enterprise/Datacenter Editions which costs a fortune to buy.
I just installed this on my Tablet PC. I must say, the handwriting recognition is outstanding. And overall Tablet usage is another huge step in the direction of the ultimate productivity tool.
They now have a build 7127 (a.k.a. Windows 7 Ultimate) . thats what i use now.

If we're talking about unofficial builds- there is actually rc2 out now (7208), Although theres no major difference in either build from 7100.

Vista can show 4GB of ram but only uses 3.5GB for the system due to 32bit system architecture
cheers =D

Agree, since a lot might commented many applications are not ready yet for 64 bit.. it would be a wise choice to stick with 32 bit Os
=D
hikashi1988 3 years ago
That's because you were using a 32-bit XP/Vista... only a 64-bit OS can see more than 3GB of RAM
