Wow. I always found Pompeii fascinating. :D When I was a kid I had a book that had pictures of the excavation and artifacts and I would read it over and over. Same with one I had on the Titanic. :D I'm so jealous.
@PioggiaNelVento awww :( :p hey! i just realized ur kinda insulting him u meanie ur probably just jealous and wish u could have his accent maybe u want to grow up in naples :p hes italian ur supposed to defend him >:l
@sweetypie1988a about it all! (i) me jealous? look, as every italian of my age i study english at school. i've been part of the exchange program in grade 12 and i've lived 6 months in vancouver. i'm happy with my accent. (ii) naples is beautiful but i like more the place where i live (iii) why should i defend him? he speaks an excellent english and i didn't deny it, but his accent is actually pretty bad. it sounds like he's faking it.
@PioggiaNelVento well at least ur happy with your accent some are not wait ur italian and you live in vancouver thats in canada right? his accent if he is faking i dont know that not right if he is maybe he thought it would make him seem cooler but i am just saying its not nice to make fun of his accent
@sweetypie1988a yes i'm italian. i've been living in vancouver 6 months, i currently live in italy. oh c'mon i never made fun of his accent! i just said that it's not a good accent, that's all! just get over it! O_O
@PioggiaNelVento ok then i just have met people and heard people make fun of immigrants english can be a hard language to learn when theirs is so different .
Havent you ever heard some one get made fun of because they didnt pronounce something right or their sentence is not perfect or get laughed at and you dont know why
@PioggiaNelVento well as long as your not making fun of him ok i guess that means you never seen anyone get made fun of cause of their accent so it doesnt bother you
@sweetypie1988a still i hope you're kidding me. of course i've seen people making fun of foreign accents, but the point here is that nobody is making fun of anyone right now. c'mon stop it, you're getting ridicolous.
@PioggiaNelVento i guess it just bothers me more cause i have seen people be really cruel and mock those immigrants and many other things i am glad to know your not making fun of him
Great video. The Italian guide had excellent diction, a very interesting accent and very good knowledge of what he spoke. Tennent showed that he was moved by it all, especially in his "reflective" comments.
@unbeliveablebuttrue I've been there (I'm from rome), you can still see the people preserved in stone just as they were trying to escape or to protect their children, you can't stand there and watch without crying :(
omg! Doctor Who was here in Italy and i didnt know? plus,i'm italian, and i don't know how david could get what the guide was saying....at least ,i didn't.
@freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez lol sono pure io italiana, la guida aveva il tipico accento da italiano che tenta di parlare inglese ahah ma almeno si capiva dai :D
I was there in 1998 and it was absolutely fascinating... btw, for those who have never been there and want to take a look at it: google maps now provides street view for the ancient city. just search for "piazza porta marina inferiore, pompeii". you'll find the ruins north of it. hope you'll enjoy your virtual trip!
leave the poor guide alone, at least he DOES speak another language besides his own...as for his accent, it´s not something that most ppl can help, and don´t get me started on how many English speakers butcher the pronounciation of Italian or French words...
@Nanami21 you are right! I am italian and this guy is very funny for someone like me that learnd english since childhood, or someone that speaks english as its own language. I can tell you that many professionals in italy have learnd english when they were already grown up, so the accent is extremely strong, but they don't say wrong words.
@hikarufly It's awesome that you and Nanami21 recognize the difference between fluency and accuracy! I'm an ESL teacher, and I meet so many people (locals and students) who believe that a person has to have a 100% native-like accent in order to be "truly fluent". Obtaining a native-like accent is virtually impossible if you start learning a second language after age 13 or so.
I MUST go to Pompeii...we learned a lot about it in our Latin lessons- never managed to have a trip there (although our teacher did promise, damnit :D)
I went to Pompeii and up Versuvius on a school trip, but it was so wet and manky we couldn't actually see inside the crator or down the mountain side or anything, glad I watched this, now I have!lol
Yeah I was in the Marines with a guy built like that. I could run 3 miles in about 18 minutes. But my bud, "Roach" was his name, could just fly. He ran it in the low 14 minutes area. David looks like he can fly like that.
I've been a film maker for a while now, and that has to include acting sometimes, (If I'm making a film, I might as well be in it! LOL). Staying fit is a priority. You got to have have the energy for long shoots. And well...it's nice to hear girls say "OMG!". LOL
David Tennant has to be one of the best Doctor's of all time... I really wish he'd stay the Doctor for a few more seasons...
This little interview certainly shows how involved he got with the production, I mean how often does one of the actors for a show get involved with the production and on-site research?

I feel this is why ancient history should be just as appreciated. 2000 years from now, the Holocaust and WWs will only be textbook chapters when all the voices of personal experience are long gone.
Many people brush off ancient history because they feel too removed, or the documentation isn't as thorough to appeal. But that's what makes remembering these events just as precious.
i totally agree, events such as Pompeii or the Holocaust should not be forgotten. I recently went to Sydney for a school tour and we met a survivor of the Holocaust and her story was mesmerising. To think of these sort of things going on to be forgotten is wrong.

XD

Love DT but he looks kinda geek-chic with his black socks and sneakers/trainers. He really is the perfect geek chic...or just the perfect man

XD
