disconnect the spark plug cables one at a time and listen for the noise change.

yeah I had a similar sound and it ended up being a secondary air compressor, I had a used one put in for 60 bucks and the problem is gone

@Criminaljustice79 This problem was not related to the ambient temperature. It was a spun rod bearing.

This turned out to be a spun rod bearing. After taking labor hours into account, replacement of the engine was better than fixing the engine.
