@juniorbigodao Yeah man, I had this doubt. I bought the Cooler Master N620 and expensive, it was perfect. My memories are Corsair Dominator CPU cooler and pull in the cooler reaches of memory, but nothing to panic. It was perfect. Temperatures then, without comment, awesome ! /Sorry by my bad english.. I'm from Brazil..
i have a890gxm-a v.1 it has the same features as v.2 but v.1 doesn't state it can unlock all 6 cores...i cannot afford to upgrade to v.2 i have x6 1090t...does updating my bios will unlock it? another concern is does it support sli?
crosshair lv formula is the better board. it uses the better 890fx chipset that supports more pcie lanes. it can handle 2-way crossfire, both at x16 pcie links and 4-way crossfire at x8 pcie link per slot.
The m4a89gtd pro uses the cheaper 890gx chipset that supports less number of pcie lanes. the m4a89gtd pro has only two pcie graphics slot. it can run on x16pcie link on the primary slot but when in 2-way crossfire mode, each slot will only run on x8 pcie link.
QUESTION ? I am looking to build another computer. I am seeking the best of the best AMD 6 core motherboard. what is the very best that can make you say (WOW) or (HotDamn)
@z34gtp9395 its wierd i heard they were changing the Socket for the new line so that the new CPU wont fit in current board.. if u heard differently send me link plx...
Men, you are the best, everybody on you tube on reviews said like.. "OK so this is the Motherboard.. and well here is the processor, and this is em.. the USB 2.0 port, thanks for watching." you are the best. I will learn to much on your videos. Thank you so much.
hey guys, croosfire with this mobo would give me a x16 x16 or it will divide in x8 x8?please help me out..i can't decide on what mobo to buy that have x16 x16 cf config and at a cheap price..
This guy is an idiot. I know people running DDR2 with a six core cpu and this jackass says AMD released a whole new chipset to support their new six core CPU. Why don't you stop eating and start researching. The chipset was released in order to enable higher DDR3 speeds in combination with the C3 stepping Phenom II's, get your facts right instead of making a company that banks on backwards compatibility look like they could care less. You're added opinions are bs banter.
Incorrect about having to buy a new 890 chipset motherboard to support 6 core amd cpus you can easily update a bios of a 790fx or earlier to be compatible most manufacturers have sockets powerful enough on their boards to support 140w cpu's and above. Good video otherwise.
Great review.... I like the 6 core support. I have used ECS mainboards before they work.... nothing glamorous like my Asus Crosshair running a AMD 955. Im just thinking of building a 6 core rig and dont want to spend too much on it.
ECS motherboards are great, and cheap, my brother has a ECS X48T-A for his core 2 quad q6600, and when I fried my Intel DX58SO I bought a ECS X58B-A2 for my old school i7 920 C0 (yeah i bought street date it isn't so good like the new stepping i7's that OC beastly, mine won't go past 3.6 D:), nice to see they have kewl AMD boards too. I hope AMD someday makes a über powered CPU, then i'm so buying it, their CPUs smoke fat cocks D: (i don't care about price, only strength and AMD fail on that)
@Avataryoutuification damn mine is breaking i had it at 4.4 GHz when I started OC, but I think i pushed too far and now every week it gets worse and worse now 3.6 will lock and then 3.5 became unstable well I guess i fucked up i only hope it still works up to when they release a new CPU better than that 6 core gulftown. anyways to OC u need a good aftermarket cooler I got coolermaster V8 with a custom fan
@Avataryoutuification 18C? lol thats cold, very cold actually, most Intel CPUs (sry I dunno AMD since my last AMD was a K6 but I believe it should be the same) are designed to handle 60-100C, I have mine running 3.46GHz idling at 42C and loaded 88C o__O'
@Avataryoutuification I guess any at least 350W CPU can run ur X4 with even 50% OC without a problem, cooler, it must run cool otherwise it burns (like mine, I think it must be partially burned since it lose performance gradually), the BIOS isn't an issue, one thing u must also see is your memory, the CPU is heavily tied to the RAM, and if you overclock the RAM above what it can handle it WILL crash, so a solution to this is lower the RAM multiplier and/or uncore so the ram is under specs
@Avataryoutuification oO LOL is a X3, imho AMD CPUs proving to be great on mid end level but i'm like perfectionist I need the best of the best :/ that's how I ended "half-breaking" my i7 D: i hope they launch a 8 core 16 thread i7 soon, gulftown not worth its price (970 is $888 and 980X EE is $999, clearly 2 much for 6 core 12 thread CPUs) but i'd sure spend that on 8/16
@Avataryoutuification cluster computing works only on servers I guess. for a gamer 8C/16T should be enough, that's pretty much all I do. GPU surely progress faster tho, this 5970 is mah baby <333. So, that's the thing I wait them to release some i7 CPU that work on my board and that has 8C/16T lulz. just wonder when too
@Avataryoutuification oops typo 1 = PSU and let me put easier, if u oc the cpu it also OC the ram automatic that's why u need to keep an eye on. good app for that is lavalys everest ultimate edition (do a google on tht)
@GoogleG11993 intel better ? all my live i have been with intel and i want now seriusly get one AMD phenom , i start hating intel because of the GIGANORMOUS cost of their cpus , OVER 9000 Thounsands!! dollar , i dont shit money

-The third PCIE16X slot is 4X electrically, not 16X.
-Many bios updates for 7 series boards to support six-core have been released recently
-The verdict mentions that is nothing significant about this board, but it has four display outs, crossfire x, dual gbe and six SATA 3.0. That combination is uncommon.
Disclosure: I have no association with ECS, just another reviewer being of assistance.
Intel support crossfire but don't support sata 3 natively yet, and wont until at least their next chip-set release cycle.
some boards with on board sata3 and usb3 controllers downgrade the graphics slot bandwidth when these controllers are in use, to some users this caveat is unacceptable
as for sata 3 being 'special' or not, the same thing was said when sata 3.0Gb/s came out, sata 1.5Gb, ata133 and ata100 came out and look what occurred with those standards, wide adoption.
@kngtrider so does that mean that the 2 red ones are 16x full populated with a card in the "4x" slot? beacuse i was planning on doing a radeon 5850 x fire and a 9800gt for physx.
AMD 'GX' boards support 8+8 (pcie gen 2) in crossfire
AMD 'FX' boards have more lanes and can support 16+16+8 (pcie gen 2) or other combination determined by the motherboard vendor up to the total number of lanes supported by the chipset
If you plan on running 5850 crossfire in that board, the 4X slot would be blocked by one of the cards and one of the 1x slots blocked by the other card. Leaving only a 1x PCIE and the PCI slot for expansion.
@kngtrider thx for reply i really appreciate the help. one more question. if i am watercooling my cards, wont that only take one slot. because my water cooling blocks are pretty thin so can i do 16x/16x/4x with 2 radeon 5850s and 1 9800gtx. is it possible?
lol for awhile i thought it was motherboard sorg.. god i gota learn to read, and not just interprate something once then tell my mind that that is what its called..
It bothers me that i may not be able to put a after market cooler major flaw ECS Good review now we know not to get this board if you are a person that is into big air coolers. Liquid cooling would not worry about it.
AMD needs to drop out of all markets other than video cards. I'm a huge Nvidia fan, but even I can't deny performance. However, if AMD were to drop out of the CPU market, Intel's prices would probably drop, leading to an increase in sales. AMD has fallen behind.
@EphraimWitchwood regarding your comment on amd dropping out intel's prices would go down? I think maybe they would go up because they would have no competition,
@EphraimWitchwood i feel that not only did amd push intel to better them selves but also brought prices down. Also remeber amd ruled for a long time specially with gamers, back in socket 940, 939 and back in 754 and before they wher the best band for the buck.. and well now that is what they are and also seem to be niching on low power consuption energy savings. But you never know things can turn around at any time. I like competion feel that it is better for consumers.
...It's too bad since ati & amd merged ,no more amd SLI motherboards ... Is there a button for "Core Unlocking"?...(Asus has that ,Very easy to do) ... 6 core cpu for 300$ here it comes... I think some 790 boards will support the 6 core with bios update?...Possible?...
I've had 2 ECS motherboards, and they were both crap. One stopped working, the other would randomly reboot (troubleshooting narrowed it down to motherboard).
@BIGDADDYF50 the 470, as long as its in the 350 - 380 dollar range, it is the best bang for buck in the high end market (even more than 5850)
The price could go down, but then again, performance will go up as well (maybe a refresh from nvidia, and LOTS of drivers to drive performance up!).
if your going for core i5, go with only the 750. It's an AMAZING cpu. try for EVGA (for mobo and gpu) the company is AMAZING, and they are known for being AMAZING in all aspects, espec. warranty / techsupport
@BIGDADDYF50 forgot to mention, DO NOT cheap out on your psu. you will regret that (you might know, just making sure out of the good of my heart :)). Otherwise, your good to go with one hell of a gaming rig. Then in the future, you have possibility of getting SLI with another 470 on a p55 or something (and also 3d vision which is also AMAZING). Folding matters, should you want to give back to the world.
And another bonus of EVGA is it's forums, check it out. you'll love it.
yeah thanks for your help. yep, i am going to go with the core i5 750 since i heard that i7 isn't that much better for gaming + I don't do any video encoding or whatnot.
I'm not really a big fan of sli, I prefer single slot gpu solutions with good price/performance ratio. That's why the GTX 470 appealed to me- since it has what i need. Btw, is it easy to build a cpu by itself? I have only replaced power supply, memory and video card in the past. I hope it's not too complex xD
@cisco760ca If you want my opinion, AMD's will be cheaper and possibly less powerful. AMD targets the home and Intel targets businesses and server users/hosts. (They have the money for the top of the line stuff. That's the obvious giveaway.)
Does anybody know how to unlock the hiddcen cores using this mobo? I can't find the feature anywhere!

@EphraimWitchwood How the hell would Intel drop it's prices when they have a monopoly?

...It's too bad since ati & amd merged ,no more amd SLI motherboards ... Is there a button for "Core Unlocking"?...(Asus has that ,Very easy to do) ... 6 core cpu for 300$ here it comes... I think some 790 boards will support the 6 core with bios update?...Possible?...
mrjamesb56 1 year ago
I've had 2 ECS motherboards, and they were both crap. One stopped working, the other would randomly reboot (troubleshooting narrowed it down to motherboard).

I'm looking to upgrade my old ass AMD Athlon 64 3ghz dual core/8800 GT pc.
I'm looking for something in the $800-$1000 range that will last me years and have upgradability options.
Should i go with intel motherboard or asus motherboard? I was planning on getting that Intel Msi mobo + core i5 + a GTX 470.
Or should i wait 4-5 months till prices go a bit down?

@BIGDADDYF50 you can buy a new good pc with the amount you're going to spend.
kanwarjyot 1 year ago
@BIGDADDYF50 the 470, as long as its in the 350 - 380 dollar range, it is the best bang for buck in the high end market (even more than 5850)
The price could go down, but then again, performance will go up as well (maybe a refresh from nvidia, and LOTS of drivers to drive performance up!).
if your going for core i5, go with only the 750. It's an AMAZING cpu. try for EVGA (for mobo and gpu) the company is AMAZING, and they are known for being AMAZING in all aspects, espec. warranty / techsupport
rayright15 1 year ago
@BIGDADDYF50 forgot to mention, DO NOT cheap out on your psu. you will regret that (you might know, just making sure out of the good of my heart :)). Otherwise, your good to go with one hell of a gaming rig. Then in the future, you have possibility of getting SLI with another 470 on a p55 or something (and also 3d vision which is also AMAZING). Folding matters, should you want to give back to the world.
And another bonus of EVGA is it's forums, check it out. you'll love it.

@rayright15
yeah thanks for your help. yep, i am going to go with the core i5 750 since i heard that i7 isn't that much better for gaming + I don't do any video encoding or whatnot.

Doesn't GA-790FXTA-UD5 support 6 core amd cpu or they decided to screw us over? or I am just crazy and it never said it would support 6 cores?

@GunSotsOverMe : Right, the 790FXTA supports the new 6 core processor.

Intel has i7-980X. It has 6 cores and it's price is expected to be $1000.

how much are the new amd 6 cores gonna be worth and what intel cpu is it gonna be compatition with ? thanks
cisco760ca 1 year ago
@cisco760ca If you want my opinion, AMD's will be cheaper and possibly less powerful. AMD targets the home and Intel targets businesses and server users/hosts. (They have the money for the top of the line stuff. That's the obvious giveaway.)
