  • Iron Maiden who?

  • But who played piano??

  • @npbelly keith emerson

  • @birdsmachine : You know this for sure? How so? Thanks for answering, man! It does sound like stuff that Keith could do. I'm amazed this piano part isn't more talked about. How did you find out??

  • @npbelly i saw the live version, yes, its great!!!

  • the 2 dislikers have failed to use their allocation of recreation and need to GO TO HELL.

  • "The madman and got drunker

'Til both thought the other "Thank you!"

    And we laughed

All the way to the stars...

    That is EPIC.

  • Why are there very few in focus? Maybe there is an ohm sweet ohm in a moment. But there are definitely very few folk in focus.

  • Even though they didn't put out many recordings, there's very few weak moments never mind songs.

  • the sond momentum by aimee mann sounds exactly like this song.

  • Before you say the obvious ("Keith Emerson"), consider this is a Lake solo song, like they were all doing on that album. I want it to be Keith, but Edward Macan's book seems to hint otherwise if I recall. ELPDigest couldn't come up with an answer...someone needs to ask a band member or maybe someone here knows.

  • Can ANYONE please tell me who plays piano on this great track?

  • This song is in Works Vol 1 (black label)...Not 2 (White label)...

  • @Cascabel40 Can't you read, mate? As I've already told another commenter below: this IS "Works Vol 1" on CD (original recording reissued) & with that WHITE cover. I own the bloody thing, OK!

  • @JehanneDeLys But the original edition is black, to create confusion ... put that information in the title, so do not bother to answer .... Greetings!

  • @Cascabel40 The title is the SONG, the album information is right there in my NOTES, with a LINK to it on AMAZON to see or buy the CD. Can't get much clearer than that, FFS!

  • Good grief! Has is really been 40 years? Hmmm....guess so since I bought both volumes on vinyl originally.

  • Geez, people. Take a chill pill. I couldn't read that it says "1." Sorry, I'm old. ;-)

  • @crimsonkng No problem, mate! LOL You missed my wink too, eh? I'm just so used to no-it-all teens with attitude on here, that's all.

But hey, I'm older than you so that won't fly! Don't ya know what David Bowie said about that: "You can't help getting older, but you don't have to get old" :p

  • I like this song a lot. For the record, the cover shown is not the album on which this song appears. Hallowed Be Thy Name was on Works, Vol. 1 (the black cover). This video shows Works, Vol. 2

  • @crimsonkng Maybe if you checked "the record" first , you'd see this IS the Works Vol. 1 CD album, which I own & you can also see the cover with full song list on it @ the Amazon link I have in my notes ;)

BTW, the album cover pic in this video is a scan of my OWN copy.

  • @crimsonkng P.S. It may have been a black cover on the original vinyl LP, but this is an "original recording reissued" CD. (You can still see it has "Vol 1." in the corner of the cover pic anyway)

  • great song even 40 yrs later

  • @fredszczepanski Totally. So apt even now.

  • this is the best lp on the universum

  • the word play is always what I remember about this song since my youth. Good lyrics, that make u think and visualize. Buit now hearing it 30 years later, I like the beat and the acoustics too.

  • "the madman said son how'd you feel, I said "me? i feel fine" LEAD ME INTO TEMPTATION." - Aaaawright

  • thank you for posting the awesome lyrics to this song along with its unsullied studio version of it -- the complexity of modernity is exposed quite thoroughly in this song -- the ethics of care, decency, and righteousness that the Brit songsters often put front and center gives us hope and pause

  • @davidfaubion Thank you for your thoughtful and insightful comment. Well said!

They are a real favorite of mine, with their exemplary combination of poetic and musical talent.

  • Great SONG!!!

  • @peggy986 Has a drum beat like repent walpurgis by procol harum

  • @MaterSva Re "Till both tought the other tank you" [sic]

Sorry, but according to the officially printed lyric of this song, in the CD booklet I have in front of me, it reads:

"Till both THOUGHT the other THANK you"

[Ref "All lyrics copyright (c) 1977 by Leadchoice Ltd. Reprinted with kind permission"]

  • @JehanneDeLys corrected. spelling error...

  • @MaterSva No problem, wasn't sure if you were disputing the accuracy of that line or not (I know it is misquoted on a number of lyrics sites) :)

  • Killer lyrics !

  • one of my favorites :~)

  • Always liked the wordplay on this song.

  • @Orlor Yes, it is great isn't it -- and so apt right now too!

    Thanks for the comment :)

  • @Orlor it's quite clever.
