  • i love this song

  • Great. Your subdivision neighbors should start a band (LOL) ! I played this song in 1968 and still do today in another band. So great!

  • Am I the only one who thinks that lead singer Gary Brooker is a "twin" to Sir Anthony Hopkins?

  • Years ahead of their time with a subtle blend of classical yet hispanic theme in this composition. Lyrics are extremely well thought out and meaningful. Excellent live peromance - Procol Harum, like a good wine, have matured with age.

  • G ! im breathless. \after all these years this song still rocks !! And Frampton comes alive again

  • Really ,a nice surprise to see Frampton with the Harum, very cool stuff.

  • Still got it was that Frampton wow great

  • Wow! Peter Frampton playing with Procol Harum -- SWEET!

  • @jporcel100 This is a Ringo Starr & The All-Starr Band performance. Ringo is sitting out on this one, but it's Gary Brooker, Peter Frampton, Jack Bruce, Simon Kirke on drums and Mark Rivera on additional keyboards.

  • rock doesn't get old, IT GETS BETTER! it is evident that they still love what they do and they never tire of the songs. Hammond organ solos rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @mtnthai love the hammond b3!!!

  • that's Bad Co. & Free drummer Simon Kirk too !

  • brilliant, i really do like this version...

  • Like the chairman singing. What a pro!

  • Fabulous! Only miss... Frampton's long hair:))

  • Youngsters SUCK! OLD guys rule!

  • i love this song so much.. and that guitar playing is excellent!

  • Very well done. I wish I could have had the opportunity to see them in their prime, but this will just have to do and it does quite nicely!

  • Was in Mexico and started singing this song and nobody in my group had ever heard of it LOVE IT

  • what the fuck!~ Is that Frampton on guitar!!??? Yes it is!!!

  • 1st rate, knockout performance of a true classic!

  • FUCK YEAHHHH!!!!!!!

  • Impressive performance, at that age!

  • Peter Frampton playing guitar for Procol Harum! What a great combination.

  • Gotta catch 'em all.

  • DEATH to the perverted hidde little personal conquistadores ...Long live The King...even if he has not much to say anymore! OTHER FOOLS HURT AND KILL MORE!

  • Damn Spaniards

  • A procolHarum song just isn't the same without Bj Wilson now is it?

  • Was he the first drummer... Whoever that drummer was... I'd say he was the best rock drummer ever.

  • Very disappointed in the horns section of this piece. There was too much emphasis in the middle on the guitar when it should have been on the horn. Never did like live performances.

  • This is one of the songs that never sounds as good live as it did on the original recordings. I think of it the same way as I do of some of the Beatles recordings - timeless classics that are almost impossible to duplicate in concert - this song should never be done unless you have a full orchestra with you.

  • This is one of the greatest of all time... and this performance says it all... great voice, great prescence and best of all, the song itself....

  • Great . . . thanks very much.

  • To all idiot-conquistadores with or without ARMOR: get beter and leave THE PEOLPE alone.

    Nobody needs nor accepts you!

    Bernard

  • Remove your mis-spelled comment!...Unseen powers seek to force certain great PEOPLE into corners where they must Have to FIGHT to..what. Keep what they all ready have/deceived?....this song so reserves MY Park Place!

  • What really blows my mind is the fact that, with all the preparation that went into the recording of Live: The concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra...why wasn't it filmed?

  • This was by far Ringo's very best All Starr Band from 1997. A couple of the songs from this show have been released on DVD as The Best Of Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band (2001). However, this performance by Brooker and band was not released on that DVD. This entire show (recorded at Pine Knob in Detroit Michigan) was released in 1998 as Ringo Starr And His Fourth All Starr Band, but was/is only available on VHS. It is well worth searching out despite the inferior tape format.

  • wow, he nailed that performance perfectly!

    BRAVO!!!

  • az Ákos verziója jobb :D

  • i love this song! i have it on my iPod. i learned the trumpet part.

  • Too much controversy; after all this Ringo Starr's Fourth All Star Band...Gary Brooker, Jack Bruce, Peter Frampton, Simon Kirk, Mark Rivera and of course, Ringo. Do your homework, kids.

  • I meant on guitar, but, I'm now reading elsewhere that my first hunch must have been right-everything I'm finding says it was Pete Frampton at that concert, he's just got less hair now, that takes some getting used to. Good work on the guit. fiddle. He mixes up rock guitar styles well, and yet keeps the feel of the song.

  • I guess it could be Robin Trower now that I watched it again. I'd say it's a great performance by all. Brooker ia digging the accompaniment, clearly!

  • The song is just great - plain 'n' simple

  • That looks like Frampton sitting in.I take it Fisher is no longer touring with Booker, what with the 2 suing each other(I know, the thought that they'd end a relationship "over a 'little' thing like 'that!,'as the Chinese gangster character on Rockford Files would have put it!Of course in the case of the plot in Rockford episode,it was a matter of the fact the Chinese mob guy had sent men to try and blow up the rival's house, who then had the draw on him, bent on returning 'favor.')Procol H.rock!

  • What a voice ! I'd give my left nut to able to sing like Brooker. Peter Frampton and Jack Bruce - good on ya Ringo.

  • I think this song is a metaphor for any leader or soldier who goes to war for a seemingly noble cause but dies. Thier life and legacy is cut short. "You did not conquer only die". This was the age of Vietnam and it still fits today. I also hear this in "Emerson,Lake and Palmer's" Lucky man. It's a stellar song and I hope it will never be forgotten.

  • not exactly a metaphor...I think it's pretty straight forward..how you relate it to "Lucky Man"...you'll have to explain to me?

  • And though you came with sword held high

You did not conquer, only die

    "Lucky Man"

    A bullet had found him

His blood ran as he cried

    No money could save him

So he laid down and he died This was just my opinion. Both men in these songs had extraordinary lives but in the end they died for what. When I hear either of these songs I think how many lives are wasted in pointless wars.

  • Sub..while there have been many "pointless" wars...the ppl that fight them are not fighting for a "seemingly noble cause?".. Are you defending the Conquistators who basically destroyed entire civilizations? (ie Mayans, Aztecs?)...and "Lucky Man" is about British Aristocracy..."He had White Horses..." etc...that's why no money could save him..

  • It's just my opinion. I've played music all my life and it's a stellar song. Good songs let people form thier own opinions. Im sure they don't have these discussions in the comment section of "Baby got Back" LOL.

  • he's got a good voice.

  • Brooker still Rocks!!! and he knows it...:)

  • maroon 5 totally stole from this to make ther song "this love"

  • heh...good point but you have to realize everyone steals from someone and everyone....maybe Procol stole this from Jethro Tull?...sounds alot like Tull?...no big deal..just send the great music!! So if Maroon 5 (who I'm seeing with the Counting Crows in July) stole a little...no big whoop...George from the Beatles said they were the biggest "knickers" (I assume that means cheaters...stealing licks and chords?) of all time?

  • Lol, another Portuguese who thinks his country is important xDD Cristobal Colon (Columbus) was spanish, the queen Isabel (oh! an spanish name) is spanish, La Niña, la Pinta y la Santa Maria (again spanish names :o) were spanish ships...if Portugal conquered everything...why everyone from mexico to the end of South America speak spanish?(unless Brazil) Portugal is only the shadow of Spain, and they have been always week and fearing of the spanish empire.

  • o.O what does that have to do with the band & song? lmao

  • Oh it has nothing to do with the band xD

I was only replying the portuguese dude who made me angry

    My apologizes

  • lol

  • wrong. he was born in genoa, italy. his trip was financed half by the royals of spain, isabella and fernando. the other half came from italian investors. he was appointed admiral of the ocean, so that he could retain one tenth for himself.

Mater of fact, the royals from portugal turned him down several times before he approached spain.

  • What a performance ! 5 stars before it even finishes ! Ay ay ay !

  • Great!!! Another Procol Harum's masterpiece!

  • Excellent. All I can say.

  • Conquistador is by far their best song IMO...I can't help but tap my feet when I hear it. I would've loved to see this performed with an orchestra.

  • this is great, i love this version... thanks for posting

  • He looks like anthony hopkins!

  • 1 vote for Strong As Samson

1 for Nothing But The Truth

    1 for Shine On Brightly

    1 for Quite Rightly So

1 for Grand Hotel and of course one for Beyond The Pale... :-)

  • This is actually Ringo Starr And His All Starr Band recorded in 1997 at Pine Knob Amphitheatre near Detroit, Michigan. Personnel are Gary Brooker (keyboards and vocals), Mark Rivera (keyboard), Peter Frampton (guitar), Jack Bruce (bass), and Simon Kirke (drums). Ringo was not on the stage for this 'mid concert' performance.

  • This is the best song they ever did...never mind whiter shade of pale....pales into insignificance

  • I can't help it but to agree with you :)

  • 1 vote for Shine on Brightly

  • this is one of my all time favourite songs. The orchestral arrangements is great and the drumming wonderful

  • Man, I thought that was Peter Frampton, Cool! First concert I ever went to was Procol Harum in '72 at The Milwaukee Performing Arts Center, Where the symphony plays. I was spoiled after that. Still remember the spotlight on Gary Brooker on conquistador. Great video!

  • That is Frampton

  • gary brooker...lovely voice

  • I love Procol. The album " Live with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra" is my favored of the ones I own.

I however am tired of hearing that all music is canned and there are no musicians anymore. There is so much amazing music out there if you look for it. At least there is here in Canada. Try the following bands, Cuff the Duke, The Hylozoists, and The Old Soul. Some great young talent that plays their hearts out when you see them live.

  • I've always loved this song, but this live version is just great! Frampton is great on guitar & Brooker's voice & keyboards are awesome. They just don't make 'em like this anymore.

It's funny tho, to see these guys at this age. They look like my subdivision neighbors! Think they all drive mini-vans now? :o)

  • OUTSTANDING---long live rock and roll

  • Anyone else notice how these old rockers just get better with age? In this day and age of canned plastic spam music out of a sequencer. it's so very refreshing to hear real music from real musicans playing real instruments (for the most part in this instance)

  • ^-^ I like this song. So does my mom.

  • A great song song is still a great song. Peter Frampton does a nice job along with Jack Bruce on bass and Simon Kirke on drums. Gary Brooker is in fine voice.

  • Gary Booker is sexy.

  • I agree. Drummer wasn't that great. It really shows in his triplets on A Whiter SHade of Pale from the same concert. I think he did pretty good on this one, though.

  • however average this drummer might be, he compares very very poorly with the great BJ Wilson

  • this kicks some serious butt.

  • Robin Trower is the most under rated guitarist of all time; Lowry organs RULE

  • Lowrey's are cool, but I prefer Hammonds.

  • simon kirk of bad company on drums?

  • Already in the seventies this group was above others minus beatles & rolling stones. This is different kind of music, it grows with you!

    Elina from Finland

  • well said - it grows on you first, then with you, and you grow with it!!!

  • Wow, these old guys can really jam!

  • I saw Gary Brooker perform this song with Peter Frampton (and other Rock Legends incl Paul Rogers, Roger Daltrey & Alice Cooper) a few years ago in Sydney & old Gary stole the show !

  • Gary Brooker = The best !

  • This is the Ringo Starr AllStarrs - brief glimpse of Jack Bruce on bass proves it.

  • If you close your eyes to the fact that Gary Brooker looks like an elderly head waiter, then this a terrific version!

  • lol

  • i dont know why i love this song i heard it on sirius radio with my dad and i fell in love with it, great recording! 5 stars

  • Whoa you're right, Robin Trower is lookin a lot like Peter Frampton these days!

  • Considering the ages of everyone on stage, I'd guess that that's not just Gary Brooker, it's all the surviving members of Procol Harum.

  • After 40 years, still on great shape!

  • With Peter Frampton on guitar it might be the Ringo Starr Allstars?

  • this is the real thing. thats gary booker

  • Wonderful!! I'd prefer the real thing, but this is well-shot and sounds great. What was this taken from??
