@angelzenaide25 You might depending on the temperature of where you are working. It's good to check on your soap just to make sure it isn't overheating or under insulated when you are first getting a feel for soapmaking.
@lolwatlolwatlol Yes, you could - or Canola or Olive oil would work as well. Just make sure that anytime you change a recipe you run it through a lye calculator to make sure you are using the correct amount of lye.
@Finallyification It can be done with MP but the colors really blend together and don't stay in distinct lines but it still makes an interesting look =)
@Elgita2 You could try rebatching it - there's a video on this channel that shows how to rebatch soap. Keep in mind if this is hard hotel soap that you'll need more moisture (6 - 8 times probably) than what we recommend in the video. This is because hotel soap is lacking in the moisture (literally, it's just more dry) that homemade rebatch soap has.
@mreinstein48 He he! I totally agree. That dark, short haircut was a wild hair (literally!) that I'm glad I got out of my system. It wasn't my favorite look either.
@DiamondsForever2496 I'm probably just concentrating really hard. The technique requires planning and precision but really, I swear, even with that, I'm having fun =)
@natalytea Awww, you are so sweet! We work on shooting, editing and releasing about 12-15 per year but sometimes, it does seem like a long time in between videos - especially for something as fun as soap!
@nagaempress It's likely a typo I think what they meant was OLIVE oil you can try any supermarket I think they all stock it because people cook their food with it. = )
@nagaempress You can buy it at a grocery store, Sam's Club, Costco or online at Bramble Berry. It's just normal, plain Olive Oil - and buying Extra Virgin doesn't get you anything extra with soap so Pomace grade is just fine for Olive Oil for soap.
I love watching these videos! I always put another feather in my cap after watching them. I just ordered three of the colorants used in this video Monday and now I'm super excited to receive my order from Brambleberry. I'm a newbie but highly impressed with their prices and service. Less than 2 months into soapmaking and I'm just placed my third order with them......Thanks Anne Marie for all you do to help out the newbies!!!
@Susdenfann Wow, thank you for your super kind words! I am so thankful to have people to share my soapmaking hobby (erm ... addiction?) and hopefully inspire new soapers. I'm so happy that you enjoy the videos. Let me know if I can be of any help in your soapmaking journey!
@3000Crystal Gloves, I got on one of those flash shopping sites but they are Laura Ashley (which Macys carries), whisks were Fred Meyers and Goggles are at Bramble Berry (online). I'm a girly girl - love my pink!
I love your videos. Thayer are very informative and fun. I love watching them all, but please make cold process soap tutorials as often as possible because they are the most confusing for me. How do you get things like those hearts that look swirled. I really am interested. Melt and pour can be con fussing, but I am most interested in cold process, because it is the least self explanatory. Thank you.
@AllyIsLovable The secret to getting your batches as perfect as mine look? Practice, practice, and practice. I've been making soap since I was 16 (!!!) so I've made a lot of batches (some successful and not so successful) so just keep trying and let me know how I can help.
holy cow, looks like you found the fountain of youth !! thanks for the air bubble tips, that was perfect timing for me. Just made soap with your Tangerine Wow colorant and 10X Orange Essential oil and they are great!
@kevp951 Aren't you sweet? The secret is that my newborn started sleeping 5 hour stretches a few weeks before this video was shot. Now, he's doing 6 and even 7 hour shots at a time and I'm in heaven!
I agree, that Orange 10X is awesome! It's so hard to get a natural orange that lasts in CP soap so I'm a fan too!
@DemeterSearches Thank you! I like it a lot more too. But I'm sure in a few years, I'll forget the dreadful dark color and short cut on myself and do something drastic again. =)
@shahodo I had a wonderful, sweet little baby boy so that definitely took away from some of our video shoots but I'm back, the baby is sleeping more and I can't wait to start planning out 2012 shoots =)
Wow... that cutting technique is awesome! I have been planning my first funnel swirl for the past week or so and this video has come at the most convenient time! I can't wait to try it :D Thanks so much, Anne-Marie!
@zzzzbmy The cutting technique is a bit of a mind wrap to figure out but once you do it, I love that each and every bar is beautiful and totally worth the work of doing a funnel technique. I hope your soap turned out amazing. =)
@TheCheeky02ful Well I don't think that lye actually burns your skin in solid soap form, I think that it just get especially hot when heated and can burn your skin just like any other hot liquid... but i could by wrong, correct me if i am! :)
@TheCheeky02ful Soap is the result of a chemical reaction between oils and lye. If all the measurements are done properly the end result of this chemical reaction is soap! This means that no lye remains in the finished product and is perfectly safe to use. Hope this helps you with your question.
@TheCheeky02ful That is a great question. Sodium Hydroxide, or Lye, is the only thing that can turn vegetable oils into an actual soap. So, just like driving a car, we take safety precautions to ensure that this chemical is treated with respect and our soap turns out great each time. @TheCheeky02ful is correct, there will be no more lye in the finished product and handmade soap is a wonderful, affordable luxury for your skin. =)
How do you clean the containers/tools you had the lye mixtures in, so you don't get lye burns?

@mylittleredpanda It's a very similar concept to a column swirl/technique - just with a slightly different implement (funnel versus block).
