But I hate lowlifes who have to show me that they can read a big book by posting spoilers in the commentaries. The general hints are one thing, what really bugs me is all the fucking idiots referring to an important event in a future book by referring to its common name, which (it amazes me this has to be said) is not cryptic enough (especially in the context it's usually mentioned) to prevent people with a shred of imagination from figuring out they suddenly know too much.
Is there gold in the village?...she shouted as she drove the blade up through his back. "Is there silver? Gems?" She stabbed twice more. "Is there food? Where is Lord Beric?" She was on top of him by then, still stabbing. "Where did he go? How many men were with him? How many knights? How many bowmen? How many, how many, how many, how many, how many, how many? is there gold in the village?"
@elementengine no he isn't not even slightly, his death had meaning and set in motion almost every other event in the series. had he lived ASOIAF would have been a very short and rather dull book series
@LinkinBasser i agree with you. i meant in the sense that he's a character that doesn't get much time to shine but became enormously popular anyway cause he's just so damn cool.
Everyone's writing about how epic Dondarrion is in Season 3. Did I not read something? Maybe my memory is just shit but all I remember Dondarrion doing in ASoS is *spoilers* getting killed by the Hound and coming back to life. He's barely in it, the rest of the brotherhood is featured more.
@IMPYEMU but he's such a tragic, heroic character. He's basically the only knight in Westeros who takes his vows to defend the smallfolk seriously. The Beric BWB was just, beneficial and pretty awesome in a Robin Hood way...unlike the, uh, post-Beric BWB.
As with all things, I admire Ned Stark's actions. There's a problem and he chooses the proper course to achieve justice.
But, unfortunately for him, this is Westeros. Honour and nobility are the quickest roads to a short life in the Seven Kingdoms, especially if those qualities are held by men of power. And I'm sure he's well aware of that. And yet desptie knowing, he still goes ahead with it.
Bravo Lord Stark. You would have made a better king than Robert ever was.
I think that it would have been better if they had ruled together - just as Robert Baratheon wanted. I don't believe that he ever wanted to rule - he just knew that it would be a bad idea to let either his brothers or the Lannisters take power.
@OcelotDAD Yesssssss! do you know if this guy here is coming back to play that roll? i know that some of the character rolls could be filled by other people because they were minor rolls. but i really want this guy to come back lol. i started reading the series after watching game of thrones, so whenever there was a scene in the book that involved our beloved lightinglord i would always picture this actor in my mind, lol
@tinamoul Except he just condemned Tywin Lannister on the hunch that the overly large man who ransacked and burned those villages was Gregor. Robb never met Tywin or any main force in battle, despite his prowess. Ned was stupid for dictating his actions on honor in a city full of honorless players.
@nioor Littlefinger is the idiot, that's going to get himself killed probably in the next book. he's the one currently playing silly games. Every body keeps going on about how stupid Ned was, but you're forgetting that at this point in time Robert was still alive. And given what Rob the 16 year old kid did to the Lannisters, Ned might have had the best fighting force in Westeros if it came to war.
@tinamoul I disagree on Littlefinger. He always seems to be on the winning side, which makes his games anything but silly. Best part is, the great houses lose power by attrition, whereas Littlefinger increases it without getting his hands dirty. As for Ned, this video shows a brilliant move of his; Gregor is the Lannisters' iron fist, which Tywin uses to devastating effect. Destroy the Cleganes and the Lannisters are considerably weakened.
@tinamoul (cont') Ned's big mistakes are two: informing Cersei Lannister of his intent to expose the truth to Robert, and refusing both Renly's and Littlefinger's proposals after Robert's death. If he would have sided with either one, he would have emerged the winner. Of course, if he would have done that, he would not be Eddard of House Stark.
@ibby62442 Gold helps in the long run during a WAR, the majority of individual battles would most likely be won by the Starks, but the Lannisters had the money to buy whatever they were short on, be it food, soldiers, allies, equipment or w/e.
Speaking of equipment, it does depend on gold, soldiers have to buy their own armour, so it helps being an overall rich place.
In Westeros your lord doesn't equip the generic footmen so, the northeners would only be equipped with what they own.

Why did everyone in the Throne Room act so shocked? No, it was not a drastic action, he was sentencing a man who has committed crimes to die. There's really nothing out of the ordinary about that.
@AntiTroll101 Because the guy he is sentencing is pretty much the main knight of the joint strongest house in Westeros, and Tywin Lannister, the leader of that house, doesn't take these things lightly.
@Arkantos117 I really fucking hate the Lannisters. Why did George R.R. Martin have to kill off the Starks and leave the Lannisters alive? They're the VILLAINS, they've done some of the most evil stuff out of all of the houses of Westeros. They deserve to die off. And that brings me back to my previous point: If Clegane committed horendous crimes against the realm, why is everyone so fucking shocked? The Lannisters don't hold power over the Hand of the King!
@AntiTroll101 The Lannisters control the majority of the crown's debt, they have the most money to bring in mercenaries and their soldiers are the best equipped in all of Westeros, Tywin Lannister is also one of the most ruthless men in the realm and Jaime Lannister is one of the best swordsmen, all of these reasons make the Lannisters formidable & scary.
Ned, obviously, wasn't scared of Tywin or just didn't take into consideration how much of a git Tywin is, unlike everyone else.
"And like his name implied Beric Dondarrion with flaming sword in hand was lightning on the field he seemed to be everywhere at once cutting down men, with red priest Thoros Of Myr closely behind."
That's how a king works, Ned Stark would have made a great king. But I'm happy he was always a lord and never a king, I think that made and kept him a better person.
I have to wonder, what SHOULD Ned have done in response to Gregor's rampage? I mean, he'd be an ineffectual fool if he just did nothing and what Gregor did were punishable crimes. He couldn't just let him get away with it.
Hate to be the one complaining, but Beric Dondarrion should have been more handsome, and any way more compelling and imposing than that.. I hope that they recast him for S3
He should have taken Renly or Petyrs advice, but no its too honorable. Now the women and child who ned defended beheaded him. Yeah Ned deserved it for his naiveté.
was the man stood before the throne in this scene Berric Dondarrion? It is in the books and wasnt Thoros there too with his sword that he keeps setting on fire?
@ulysees77 Yeah they didn't cast Thoros. I didn't even notice Berric was even in the show the first time i watched. Look forward to the BWOB in season three their scenes with the Hound are great.
@Meshakhad yes, tywin send gregor to pillage riverlands and he's a TRAITOR to the REALM, but his wife kidnaps tywin's son based on a word of one man, the same man who said himself he is not to be trusted, and that's fine...but, yes, if you say so, starks make amazing judges
@bronkoghma What Tywin did was the equivalent of the governor of Texas sending the Texas National Guard to pillage Louisiana. He is making war on his own country.
@Meshakhad not really. the book is based on medieval times and there was no holy notion of a country back then - nobles fought each other all the time. and especially in this books case the 7 kingdoms is a country only for 300 y, thousand of years before that they were esparate kingdoms which hated each other and warred constantly
@bronkoghma their way of life are based on medieval times but the entire story is fictional and did not happen. The White Walkers, the wights, the dragons all should give a clue that this is a fantasy type of fiction.
@morethanever100 Wow I thought this was history till you said this, boy am I silly. Guess I dun live in westeros then, my whole experience has been a lie.... thankyou.... thankyou.....
@MrOwen2012 the fact he lost the game of thrones proves he wouldn't have made a great king. except in usual fantasy novels of the happy-peasant and epic-good-vs-evil type. not in GRRM's though
@FoieGras being a fool, not sense of honour. look at hte tyrells, the haven't done anything dishonourable but they are smart and their star just keeps rising
Awesome video.
But I hate lowlifes who have to show me that they can read a big book by posting spoilers in the commentaries. The Starks may not be good politicians, but they make amazing judges.

@Meshakhad yes, tywin send gregor to pillage riverlands and he's a TRAITOR to the REALM, but his wife kidnaps tywin's son based on a word of one man, the same man who said himself he is not to be trusted, and that's fine...but, yes, if you say so, starks make amazing judges
bronkoghma 5 months ago
@bronkoghma What Tywin did was the equivalent of the governor of Texas sending the Texas National Guard to pillage Louisiana. He is making war on his own country.
Meshakhad 5 months ago
@Meshakhad not really. the book is based on medieval times and there was no holy notion of a country back then - nobles fought each other all the time. and especially in this books case the 7 kingdoms is a country only for 300 y, thousand of years before that they were esparate kingdoms which hated each other and warred constantly
bronkoghma 5 months ago
@bronkoghma their way of life are based on medieval times but the entire story is fictional and did not happen. The White Walkers, the wights, the dragons all should give a clue that this is a fantasy type of fiction.
morethanever100 4 months ago
@morethanever100 well, thank you captain obvious.
as i said, the book and the fantasy genre in general are based on medieval times

too bad, Ned would have made a great king...if it wasn't for cersei, pycelle and baelish. He would live on.
MrOwen2012 5 months ago
@MrOwen2012 the fact he lost the game of thrones proves he wouldn't have made a great king. except in usual fantasy novels of the happy-peasant and epic-good-vs-evil type. not in GRRM's though
bronkoghma 5 months ago
Talk about irony in this scene Ned is sentencing that guy to die and brand him a traitor and then Ned is sentenced to die and branded a traitor

It's a pity that a sense of honor actually buys you death in Westeros.
