this song is so underrated.....its always stuck in my head, it should have been released...i dont understand why it wasnt, i wanna start a band and cover this song
Why in the world did they abandon this track? This is one muscular song, and I actually think Mitch does a great job on vocals. Also very prescient of the Band of Gypsys and the post-Woodstock Hendrix sound in general, and unlike the other stuff the Experience were doing at this time. The scratchy lo-fi of (what I presume is) the acetate is extra tasty icing on the cake. Great post!!!
there will never be another Drummer like Mitch his timing with jimi was so perfect it was as if every show they played was improvised so perfect cant beet the Experience .. and the cry of love album WAS SO GREAT MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This seems to be the precursor to Ezy Ryder, but I bet someone already said that. This is nice! Nice to hear Mitch Mitchell sing for a song, and why not more? I've heard Noel sing on those tunes that are. I think they all should have sung more strongly together with harmonies as the Experience.
In his day, Mitch could play circles around everyone else. Bonham, Baker, Moon too. Amazes me how these three are always having the "legend" or "genius" tag put on them, when Mitch was simply waaay better, in every way!! In later years, Mitch used to talk about being embarrassed because he thought he "overplayed" a lot, especially live. To me, though, he was always the perfect counterpoint to Jimi, and they fed off of each other wonderfully. I always loved his happy, humble attitude
@jimistreets I heard Mitch and Jimi and their approach was like Coltrane and Elvin Jones - both "soloing" the entire song. That was what set them apart.
Really??? It didn't sound like Noel to me, and I've never came across this song before... but if you're 100 % positive that it's Noel and not Mitch, I'll take your word for it.
check out the "mad about hendrix" site on the web. Features Mick Jagger, Joe Satriani, Johnny Winter, Noel Redding, Randy Hanson, Uli Roth, a plethora of other stars and fan tributes and me doing "Gloomy Monday" (Hendrix in his Curtis Knight days) A WONDERFUL TRIBUTE by his fans all over the world.
This is acctually Noel singing(like many people already pointed out..) but there is a song with mitch on vocals called "Cat talking to me" (its avalible on bootleg)
Mitch and Noel added a great backing vocal sound. Very unusual and very psychodelic. Live shows always had phenomenal musicianship, but The Experience could have used their backup vocals more as it added alot - especially Mitch.
Jimi used to coach Noel and Mitch to put songs on their CDs. He even asked Chas Chandler (manager) to sing a few songs on "Are You Experienced" When Noel did "She's So Fine", Jimi was so excited! But Mitch wasn't comfortable with his voice, so he never made any songs.
Info was taken from: Jimi Hendrix Sessions - The Complete Studio Recording Sessions, 1963-1970. Written by: John McDermott with Billy Cox and Eddie Kramer.
*Quote* Wed Dec 20, 1967: "Dream" & "Touch You," two of Noel's new songs, were also recorded."Dream," only Redding's second lead vocal performance with the Experience, was a unexpected suprise. The track, somewhat reminiscent of Hendrix's own "Love and Confusion," was particularly noteworthy, powered by Redding's lead guitar work and Hendrix's nimble bass playing.
Mitch, that's you remember bro? the little purple pills? The ESP with extra terrestrials? Owsley made that batch for you guys at Monterey! Well done!!!!
Heh, nice job man! While I was walking around at Monterey with my strawberries, checking out the venue, he came up to me and gave me a whole bag of them! He said, "Here take these, nice fellow." I didnt know what to do with them, so I just put them in my pocket, and kept walking.
Good heavens Mitch, I hope you didn't eat the whole bag! That must be how you developed your supernatural sense sense of time.... Mentally linking up with extra terrestrials! You're a clever one you are!!!
Yes Mitch. I saw The Experience at San Jose Pop May '69. Carlos Santana said it was one of the best. You were soloing hard at end and three guys had to pull you off the kit! Also Devonshire Downs shortly afterward and Jimi was in an aweful mood. Some pics from San Jose were in your book, which I read and thought was excellent, especially all the pics! I also read Noel's and Kramer's books. I guess you could say I have a PhD in "Experiencism". Aren't fans sickening???
haha, im a fan as well m8. Im not THE Mitch! But I am one of his die hard fans! I have a tribute site that is going to go live soon. I will be sure to post the link here once it is finnished.
It will have exclusiv photos, videos, audio files, and even rare interviews, other sites do not have; like drummersworld, and wikipedia. I will also have an extensive discography of Mitch and history.... It will be pretty nice!
How was Jimi a bitch for that? While I prefer this over Noel Redding's "She's So Fine" I bet Chas Chandler had something to do with this not being on the album...not Jimi.
Maybe it's what lately became "Lullaby for The Summer" =P
Listen to it. Very good song.
It's actually very interesting to listen to early recordings with different names

No, listen to "Cat Talking To Me" (vocals version) and then compare. Mitch's voice is deeper. It's probably Noel's voice.

My List:
1-Mitch Mitchell
2-Billy Cobham
3-Alphonse Mouzon
4-Steve Gadd
5-Terry Bozzio
Listen to concert of Monterey, for example, and see who is Mitch Mitchell.
Simply the best drummer in rock, and also introduced the jazz over the rock as a form of touch.
Thanks.
