I love how the precision of the f-15 Pilot makes him want to say 50 - 52 % instead of just 50 percent, because in his mind, numbers are much more important than per ce a regular businessman
I agree - spending money upgrading F15 and F16 would be more effective and cheaper than building Raptor and have the bonus of not initiating a stealth arms race - look at all the competitors Raptor has caused to be built/planned; SU47 mig 1.44 pak fa F35 BAE Replica Mitsubishi ADTFX The new korean project JXX and plenty more. If usa thinks it can bankrupt ALL the other countries in an arms race, it's mistaken. I prefer F16 to F15 tho cheaper, more flexible
half of those are never going to get past testing and be put into production.. upgrading current planes isn't worth it.. due to time on the airframes. they are just to old. the euro-fighter typhoon is probably the best 4.5 generation fighter out there.. beating f-15 and all blocks of the f-16 to include the UAE's block 60. but it still has nothing on the f-22... and once the f-35 becomes operational next year to the marines... America will have the best of the best once again..
Doesn't matter - those that do will beat f22 both in numbers and capability.
f22 is vastly over-rated & f35 is overly reliant on stealth - which is also vastly over-rated.
Upgrading F15/16 was a better idea than buolding new f22 back when f22 wasnt prototyped... newer version f16/15 would still be a better option now than f22 if it hadnt been built.
But because it HAS been built, the americans will have to throw money at it for years to come.
umm they throw money at all the jets.F-15/16 have been around since the 70's they really cant get much better than what they are at now.. the f-22 kills them in every way.. so does the f-35.. not only stealth but having internal weapons is just as big of a leap forward.
and a stealth race? really we might have got the concept form the Russians but we perfected it. no other country has a stealth aircraft. stealth race? they gotta build one first then they can race us all they want to.
f22 is stated to be uber - but so was teh F4 & we saw what happened.
A SAM site commander of a country (kosovo) torn in 2 by civil war managed to down F117 with his limited resources, what makes you think that a country can't develop the tech to counter stealth?
A stealth arms race will be one of production - however good f22 is it can't face all the PAK FAs that the Chinese will buy.
The red dagon should've been stomped on long ago...
@vodkasvictim your right,we found that the F-4 managed to perform EVERY role in the book to ASTOUNDING effect, roles that the designers would laugh at you for suggesting it be used in. the F-117 that was shot down had its bomb bay door stuck open, completely compromising its stealth capabilities. and the T-50 is NOT a stealth fighter,it is a low observability fighter. the F-22 IS the best 5th generation fighter aircraft, and will stay that way forever(the next generation will be unmanned). USAF!
@vodkasvictim May I ask (If you have a son or daughter.) Would you rather have them in an upgrade version of the F15 and F16 or would you rather have them in the F22? I would prefer them to use the tax-payer money in researching way to remove the sons and daughters out of the battle field, like the predator and such. But for now if they have to put our kids in harms way, I rather have them in the best thing that they can get.
@vodkasvictim In that case, wouldn't be samrter to use Drones like the predator(Reaper) and such, since they are cheaper than the F16 and you don't loose a pilot if the plane were to get shoot down, which mean less expense in training new pilots. When you take the human factor out of an airplane you can make an even better plane because you don't have to worry about the human physical limitation and requirement. Plz don't take this as an argument, just trying to point out another point of view.
Drones maybe, but not predator; a new drone would have to be developed, since F16 has the just right performance.
The human factor makes the airplane FAR BETTER. Technology inevitably fails. When the us set up a radar network to automatically launch nukes in response to a possible Soviet first strike they had to stop it launching nukes at Russia when it spotted the moon risinng on radar and interpreted it as a Soviet pre-emptive strike.
@vodkasvictim I use the name predator because it's widely known, also they are being use as such right now under the name Reaper. The F16 was and still is a great fighter but other countries are catching and some surpased the performance of the F16. Drones like the Reaper are actually control by a pilot unlike your example of the Nukes senario, maybe I should have use UAV instead of Drones.
@vodkasvictim It's hilarious how you war-crazy americans only count your own soldiers as casualties. These wars you fight are not real wars. You attack only inferior small countries.
@Mike32587 There are many countries you can't attack. Many countries you simply can't push around by military means. All you do is attack banana states like Iraq. xD

the raptor is boring. it has no history, it's ugly, and you know it will win. big yawn.!

USAF should think about upgrading older F-15E with GE-132 power and 2-D TV with Thrust Reversing... for less than ideal landing scenarios, etc.

Doesn't matter; those that get built will be more capable than f22 & built in far greater numbers.
Upgrading old airframes before f22 was built would prevent a stealth arms race which the us will inevitably lose.
This despite the fact that stealth is a proven failure.
Bottom line; because f22s been built america will be stuck throwing money at it for a very long time.

@WooDpenis the f-35 dont look good on paper, heavy slow and costly.
and the raptor cant keep up with the euro-fighter in the air, its just way more agile.
weaponvise and combat efficiensy is not known to me.

I said it's smarter to use f16 than f22. Sometimes casualties just have to be accepted.
