i've been an alto for years but just this year got switched to soprano 2 by my new choir teacher. it's actually quite a change but i caught on quickly. and to the people wondering why she's singing so high when it's a song about being an alto: if you listen to the lyrics, she's singing about how she wishes she could sing the melody for once, which is usually higher. so she's kind of showing what she can do, basically. personally, i LOVE singing harmony. i feel more important that way.

Don't underestimate the altos' worth and ability, I'm a soprano and I actually can't sing alto stuff, it's just too low for me. Singing low is also a talent...plus altos provide the harmony, which is important

I actually pride myself with singing so low, because I can sing as low as half the guys I know. I think it's cool to be the drums to the guitar or the glue to the glitter... you get my point. Yes it does get annoying that I never get any solo's but I think it's awesome when the alto section belts out a note and the director turns and smiles! Yeah, I get that I'll never be an ingenue in a show, but who cares, I'll have have the time of my life being the bloody mary to your nellie forbush!!!!! =)

The first year I took chorus we were split into parts by our last names (it was so stupid) and I have the last name beginning with the letter "R", so I was put into part 2, which was alto. I hated it, because I'm not an alto. It was very difficult to sing and I hated it because it was so low. I feel for you, altos. (:

i did hairspray with mark jermin and i am usually a alto .... but the sopranos had all the best tunes especially in without love soo know i am a sonprano and found out i can hit top f# !! which is higher than c which most sopranos can only reach :D

Lol, my first chorus teacher put me in the alto section. i requested to be moved to soprano, but he was like "no, I need a strong singer in the altosection, so you are staying there." funny thing is, I had to worklike hell to actually stay on the alto part because my best friend, who i tended to follow when we sang together, wasin the soprano section. at least i tried though, the other altos kept singing the soprano part.

I'm assuming this is for second sopranos. Because I'm an alto, and PROUD! Sure, sopranos get the melody...but sometimes our harmonies can be fun and challenging! And not to mention, when our part goes on for measures at the same exact note, you can rest assured that you're not going to screw it up. :) Hahaaa. Oh man, the alto's life for me!
