We are a band inspired by Opeth. We would appreciate if you listened to our song and maybe left a comment :D It's not a "opeth-song" but we hope you like it anyway ;) Every view means a lot to us! Please don't mark this as spam, we are only trying to spread our music :)
@mrgrabit He added a LOT more potency to his voice... at the stake of some of his tone.. I sincerely dont know if it was on purpose or his voice was fucked up.. at least for what I know he is done with death metal vocals (I read that on some page around the internet, although im not so convinced of it) so Opeth's next album, Heritage, will be all clean vocals... I hope his voice isn't fucked up and that opeth won't leave the brutal side we all love and that makes them so unique.
@OpethPennywise that was because he used in-ear monitors, not normal plugs. He couldn't hear himself right. Atleast that's what he said in a interview :D
I hope the move away from some of the more brutal elements. I agree with the guy below me. Mike's gettin older and he is a phenomenal writer. He can do whatever he wants and it will be fantastic.
ohh god, my heart is being broken to a thousand pieces listening to mikael growling like this... i completely understand if his throat somehow isnt what it used to be, but i had elevated his harsh vocals to such a high place, i spent entire afternoons trying to figure out how the hell he could make such a hauting, brutal growl... and now, it is gone. it is to me the same grief like if the band ended! lol. its dramatic, but its the truth. still, i cant wait for the new non-metal album...
@NonEternal completely understand dude. i actually said the same thing on the video for bleak at the royal albert hall and some people seemed to think it might have been the positioning of mics and some other bullshit. im pretty anxious to hear how any growling would sound on the new album.
@brandonnieves91 thats the thing... mikael said in an interview that hes tired of some apects of Metal music, and that he wants to revolt against his own music with the new record, so i believe watershed will probably be opeth's last Metal album :\
apparently, they are turning to a more fusion influenced sound... i enjoy fusion music, so im very curious to hear it, but im a little bit afraid of this sudden change... but i completely trust in mikael and guys. the album will surely be good
@NonEternal Well, if anything, Damnation proved that the band is competent enough to do different things. Regardless if it loses faithful fans, if the band (or in this case Mikael) truly feels they should do something different, then they should very well do it.
@NonEternal i've always loved opeth and everything they've done, but i must be honest and admit that their "calmer" material appeals to me alot more as i grow older. it's "true metal fans zomg br00tuhl muzick" that makes me not want to go to their concerts... i look at opeth the same way i do with rush and pink floyd; it's an art form, not music to bang your head to or sing along with. it's something to behold, gaze upon and be inspired by.
Yikes...I greatly admire Mikael and Opeth, but his vocals are definitely lacking there usual depth in this performance...sounds really strained, unfortunately.
Great band (and song). Hate the video editing trend in metal, though. It'd be nice for the camera to chill so you can actually focus on a band member. Doesn't make it exciting at all. At least imo.
430 to 500 is amazing cause you can hear everyones part in the band, mikael doesnt faulter and you then tell the diff when he cuts back in. great performance glad to see they didnt edit it in the studio as if nothin happened..
so the whole concert was full of techinical difficulties??
haven't seen it all but akerfeldt also changed guitar during The Lotus Eater and the ohter guitarrist's (cant quite remember his name) guitar suffered a malfunction.
Goddamn Axe is a MONSTER haha! I really dig the blastbeats he added at the very end! I'm usually not a fan of blastbeats, but he does it so tastefully and accurately that it's awesome lol
03:42 - THEY ARE AFRAID OF MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Man thats gotta be one of Mikael´s most power growls... specially the ending of the MEEEEEEEEEE part :O Awesome :D
@greendaykos Roundhouse Tapes was really good they just left out a lot their best songs from it like Deliverance, Master's Apprentice, The Lotus Eater, The Grand Conjuration, Moonlapse Vertigo etc.
its weird, i was there and i didn't even notice any differences in his vocals then usual. Its only looking at this now that i realize that he's using a different style or something. Then again i didn't notice mikes guitar rig fuck up in this either... guess i was just so fucking into it that it didnt matter lol :)
At 4:57 Mikael is a God. The way the light shines on him right when he resumed playing. He just swings back into his playing position like a fucking badass.
shrug. hard to tell if it's forever changed, or if he's trying something different. his growl sounds similar to bloodbath's "weak aside". like it's more disphragm/throat intensive
@Kimekk However, it's also worth noting that throughout Opeth's long career, they've changed their sound several times between albums, I don't think Mikael's current vocal style while become something they stick with for the rest of Opeth's career.
Opeth has a certain flavor in their live sets, they really groove around the music without robotically playing exactly what was recorded. That is what sets them above many others.
4:30 - 5:00 proof that Mikael Akerfeldt is a true professional.
He immediately realizes when his guitar messes up and calls the roadie guy over to replace it. All the while, even as he's switching guitars, the man doesn't miss a beat in his vocal delivery. Then he waits a few bars for an appropriate place to jump back in with the guitar, and picks up where he left off like nothing ever happened. Damn incredible. I'm actually happy that happened for the DVD, because it's cool to watch.
all this "headbanging" i like opeth because they have acoustic almost bluesy guitar progression. They moved away from black metal and this is where they should stay.
@vio2112 They have had some black metal elements. At least on the first 2 albums. And their first 3 were on Century Black (a black metal label that no longer exists).
Opeth is an extremely unique progressive metal band, unlike most other metal bands in that they are intelligent, talented, and sophisticated musicians. There is this overwhelming majority that believes metal is this "brootal", "hardxcore" genre...maybe it is for you. This, however, is progressive metal, or as I like to call it, sophisticated metal. @TheMrAdax Metal is partially about energy. When I saw them in Dublin, I was headbanging for the entire concert (with maybe the exception of Windowpane) because the music kinda took me over.

@Redstar226 Most opeth fans are mature minded and prefer to watch them and appreciate the music rather than headbanging like a silly teenager. Opeth are special and people like to watch them when playing live.
I'd like you to go & and say ''headbanging and moshing is fucking retarded'' in front of Åkesson, Mendez, Åkerfeldt, Per, & Axe. Especially Mendez.
I doubt you have ever been to a live concert. Fucking dick. When you're listening to a band you like there, you just start to feel it along with everyone else around you, and you just start to do something.. you either dance, headbang, clap the hands, WHATEVER.
So..in short, you're a boring person Adax. Fuck you.
@NoShelter15 I have also seen Opeth 3 times live and just stood there nodding my head to the music like most people, not moshing around like a stupid kid. In a few years you will grow up kid. Grow up kid.
@matkhumeia I really don't see the problem, i think seeing a band like Opeth live it's about really enjoying the music and talent behind what you're seeing other than moshing out, and such. Just my opinion.
hahaha, its amazing how he was able to remember all the words to growl while he was switching his guitar and looping it over his head and everything, it was so nonchalant.

You can put a bullet through Mikael Akerfeldt's brain, and he'll still write the best music in the world.
You can chop one of his arms off, he'll still be a better guitarist than Herman Li.

@TheMrAdax Of course but when it has killer riffs dont you want to jump and fucking kill everyone ?

@matkhumeia Not really that's quite immature. It's all about listening and your thoughts.

@TheMrAdax
''It's all about listening and your thoughts''
Just who the fuck do you think you are? Having fun is immature? HAHA
''I'm Adax, gonna stand still the whole song, hmm I wonder when that clean part comes in, cause I hate this riff bullshit''
That's exactly what I think of you.

@matkhumeia I really don't see the problem, i think seeing a band like Opeth live it's about really enjoying the music and talent behind what you're seeing other than moshing out, and such. Just my opinion.

Too bad this song is often overlooked and I'm glad I'm able to watch it live (although it is just on DVD). Perfectly executed. Kiss ass show.

The solos in wreath are INCREDIBLE! Mikael plays that 2nd solo perfectly.

hahaha, its amazing how he was able to remember all the words to growl while he was switching his guitar and looping it over his head and everything, it was so nonchalant.
