  • GREAT JOB, NOT THAT EASY !

  • Man that was Awesome, anyone hates if then FUKU\m/

  • @omgisdead HELL YEAH! Axenrot is so bloody drummer!

  • Comment removed

  • blast beat in the end is AWESOME!!!

  • @syonite Yeah man! AXENROT RULZ!!!

  • 1:53..In the Court of the Crimson King

  • 6:14

    DESTRUCTION!

  • 2:45

    This is Melinda? ;D

  • Almost as chilling and brooding as the studio version. Truly an underrated song from an underrated album.

  • The blast beats at the end are sick!

  • You can put a bullet through Mikael Akerfeldt's brain, and he'll still write the best music in the world.

You can chop one of his arms off, he'll still be a better guitarist than Herman Li.

You can chop one of his legs off, he'll still be able to kick everyone's ass.

  • @CheesecakeDamnation

You can cut his penis off and he can still RAPE you.

  • @CheesecakeDamnation

I don't think anyone is going to be doing any writing when someone's put a bullet through their brain.

  • @CheesecakeDamnation Sooo.. your pretty much comparing to chuck norris?

  • Thought I'd never see this song performed live. Man, it's better that I thought it could be, live! Wow!

  • seeing Opeth today at Heavy T.O. !!!!!!

  • opeth is life.

  • WHO THE FUCK IS THAT JUSTIN BEAVER SUCKAIDICK TRANSEXUAL WHO DISLIKED THIS!

  • @andydakilla

Someone who thinks Lady Gaga writes her own songs and Britney Spears is still a virgin....

  • @andydakilla someone with a different taste in music

  • euro fans are mummies :(

  • All the whining about the growls... pfft. Whatever, I love the live DVD's :-)

  • 5th April 2010 - a beautiful moment in history...

  • Anybody know the date of this perfomance?

  • All guitar techs were probably fired after this show. Haha

  • Holy fuck! Anyone else notice that Mikael sounds way more brutal?

  • @mrgrabit He added a LOT more potency to his voice... at the stake of some of his tone.. I sincerely dont know if it was on purpose or his voice was fucked up.. at least for what I know he is done with death metal vocals (I read that on some page around the internet, although im not so convinced of it) so Opeth's next album, Heritage, will be all clean vocals... I hope his voice isn't fucked up and that opeth won't leave the brutal side we all love and that makes them so unique.

  • @mrgrabit MrGrabit... i believe his voice is starting to give out so he's straining his voice.... i believe they might be done with death metal

  • @OpethPennywise that was because he used in-ear monitors, not normal plugs. He couldn't hear himself right. Atleast that's what he said in a interview :D

  • I hope the move away from some of the more brutal elements. I agree with the guy below me. Mike's gettin older and he is a phenomenal writer. He can do whatever he wants and it will be fantastic.

  • there's someone play the keyboard but did you guys hear the sound of it ?

  • ohh god, my heart is being broken to a thousand pieces listening to mikael growling like this... i completely understand if his throat somehow isnt what it used to be, but i had elevated his harsh vocals to such a high place, i spent entire afternoons trying to figure out how the hell he could make such a hauting, brutal growl... and now, it is gone. it is to me the same grief like if the band ended! lol. its dramatic, but its the truth. still, i cant wait for the new non-metal album...

  • @NonEternal completely understand dude. i actually said the same thing on the video for bleak at the royal albert hall and some people seemed to think it might have been the positioning of mics and some other bullshit. im pretty anxious to hear how any growling would sound on the new album.

  • @brandonnieves91 thats the thing... mikael said in an interview that hes tired of some apects of Metal music, and that he wants to revolt against his own music with the new record, so i believe watershed will probably be opeth's last Metal album :\

apparently, they are turning to a more fusion influenced sound... i enjoy fusion music, so im very curious to hear it, but im a little bit afraid of this sudden change... but i completely trust in mikael and guys. the album will surely be good

  • @NonEternal Well, if anything, Damnation proved that the band is competent enough to do different things. Regardless if it loses faithful fans, if the band (or in this case Mikael) truly feels they should do something different, then they should very well do it.

  • @NonEternal i've always loved opeth and everything they've done, but i must be honest and admit that their "calmer" material appeals to me alot more as i grow older. it's "true metal fans zomg br00tuhl muzick" that makes me not want to go to their concerts... i look at opeth the same way i do with rush and pink floyd; it's an art form, not music to bang your head to or sing along with. it's something to behold, gaze upon and be inspired by.

  • @NonEternal That's what happens when you get older. Good thing his singing has improved by leaps and bounds.

  • Mmm, my favorite Opeth song. The bassline when the song slows down just kills me every time.

  • I enjoy the raw tone to his vocals tbh. Bit more old school, like before people realised they had diaphragms. =p

  • PRS Bridges Suck, first of at least 2 string snappages, on what sounded like the same string every time

  • Yikes...I greatly admire Mikael and Opeth, but his vocals are definitely lacking there usual depth in this performance...sounds really strained, unfortunately.

  • chris adler rules on keyboard

  • @niabwerd hahaha

  • 8:38 I think that's the most badass pickslide I've ever heard...

  • So heavy, yet so heartfelt. These guys got me into metal and helped shape me into who I am today.

  • @StarControl69 yeah his vocals were soo much worse than he usually is ... :(

  • From the beginning to the end proof that all the band are!

  • Wow.

  • The act of calling his guitar tech is so badass...while singing such an evil song it's like he's calling his servant haha

  • @akdomun

lol'd at the calling his servant bit

  • Where's the Mosh? C'mon man, this is the perfect song for it.

  • love Per's keyboard here, and Axe's drumming kick ass!

  • i hate axes drumming so much i want to kick him in the face

  • @dancewithstorms i hate you i want to kick you in the face !

  • 0 dislikes, just as it should be :)

  • 0 dislikes, just as it should be :)

    \

  • Mikael is the man.

  • ...and all hell broke loose that night...

  • I pooped myself

  • Great band (and song). Hate the video editing trend in metal, though. It'd be nice for the camera to chill so you can actually focus on a band member. Doesn't make it exciting at all. At least imo.

  • I FUCKIN' LOVE THE BLAST BEAT ENDING

  • Per is crazy ....

  • 430 to 500 is amazing cause you can hear everyones part in the band, mikael doesnt faulter and you then tell the diff when he cuts back in. great performance glad to see they didnt edit it in the studio as if nothin happened..

  • How many guitars got messed up during this concert?

  • The summary... PRS guitars are wonderful and perfect for Santana, and Opeth is too good for PRS?? hahaha

  • I love this song, Deliverance is such a powerful album.

  • Holy shit Per just fucking loses it in the outro

  • imposible not to love..

  • woo best band ever.. not really the sounds is n_n

  • @yeahpunkrocks

    Fuck you

  • @NoShelter15 hahaha okay n_n

  • LOPEZ

  • Jizzed when Axe started blastbeating in the end, I love what Axe and Åkesson have brought to the band.

  • Does anyone else love the faces that Mikael makes when he solos?

And that pickslide after his solo was fucking sick

  • The only band that play so perfectly MASTERS!!

  • If my soul would have a sound it probably sounds like this :-)

  • wow...

so the whole concert was full of techinical difficulties??

haven't seen it all but akerfeldt also changed guitar during The Lotus Eater and the ohter guitarrist's (cant quite remember his name) guitar suffered a malfunction.

  • @moretimetokill31 I think you've seen all of them then. I don't remember any others.

  • Goddamn Axe is a MONSTER haha! I really dig the blastbeats he added at the very end! I'm usually not a fan of blastbeats, but he does it so tastefully and accurately that it's awesome lol

  • this makes me proud to be swedish

  • 9:53 - 10:08 . Those 15 seconds are like a peaceful island in the middle of a 12 minute stormy ocean. ... And they fit so good.

  • @Sickkk13 the eye of the storm

  • 03:42 - THEY ARE AFRAID OF MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Man thats gotta be one of Mikael´s most power growls... specially the ending of the MEEEEEEEEEE part :O Awesome :D

  • @RicardoGadelha definitely agree with you there man, I always get goosbumps when he growls that xD Proud to be swedish!

  • All these guys are amazing musicians!

  • All Opeth video discs should have a MENDEZ-CAM available.

  • Mikael's guitars are doomed!

  • SUBLIME!

  • ah come on... roundhouse tapes was amazing... royal albert hall is perfect....

  • @greendaykos Roundhouse Tapes was really good they just left out a lot their best songs from it like Deliverance, Master's Apprentice, The Lotus Eater, The Grand Conjuration, Moonlapse Vertigo etc.

  • @greendaykos lol this isent perfect compared to roundhouse.. his growl sucks here, and its perfect on roundhouse

  • @warmdickweed That's your opinion...I respect your opinion...

But consider the place (Royal Albert Hall) and the mood of the band and the audience(It's a live for the 20th anniversary of the band)

    Thats my opinion my friend

  • @greendaykos yeah but how can it be perfect if his vocals are terrible compared to his former levels?

  • @warmdickweed actually i don't think mikael's vocals are terrible here...

  • @greendaykos

i'd say royal albert hall is great, roundhouse tapes are amazing and lamentations are perfect :D

  • @greendaykos Perfect would be with martin lopez and peter lundgren, but yeah I kinda live in the past...

  • @all3f0r1 Me too...

  • @all3f0r1 true but still Axe and the new guitarist does an amazing job in the album Watershed.

  • hmmm...I noticed lately his growls seem to have a "tone" to it?Just my observation....met him several years ago, quite a gentleman he was.

  • @dogstar1967 yes, it kinda feels like he adds some more "normal voice" to the growls

  • @dogstar1967 Hes a scholar,and a Gentleman! :)

  • its weird, i was there and i didn't even notice any differences in his vocals then usual. Its only looking at this now that i realize that he's using a different style or something. Then again i didn't notice mikes guitar rig fuck up in this either... guess i was just so fucking into it that it didnt matter lol :)

  • At 4:57 Mikael is a God. The way the light shines on him right when he resumed playing. He just swings back into his playing position like a fucking badass.

  • the end part got so much heavier with the blast beat! hoho!

  • 01:53..MOTHER!! I LOVE OPETH!!!!

  • Love the lightning effects on the backdrop.

  • shrug. hard to tell if it's forever changed, or if he's trying something different. his growl sounds similar to bloodbath's "weak aside". like it's more disphragm/throat intensive

  • @BlooBeluga Your right. Never realized the similarity.

  • @BlooBeluga I really hope it's not forever changed... I miss the Roundhouse Tape's vocals. :(

  • @betterthandirt I concur, Roundhouse Opeth was just.. perfection.

  • @Kimekk However, it's also worth noting that throughout Opeth's long career, they've changed their sound several times between albums, I don't think Mikael's current vocal style while become something they stick with for the rest of Opeth's career.

  • Opeth has a certain flavor in their live sets, they really groove around the music without robotically playing exactly what was recorded. That is what sets them above many others.

  • Something is really wrong with his voice for this set. Too bad, it fucks up an otherwise perfect album.

  • @vitrael I totally agree man. What the hell happened? Was his voice like this at all the Evolution XX Sets??

Whatever the reason, it seems that all of the professional reviews I've read seem to ignore Mikael's voice (or lack of)

  • Editing on this makes me dizzy, awesome song though.

  • 4:30 - 5:00 proof that Mikael Akerfeldt is a true professional.

He immediately realizes when his guitar messes up and calls the roadie guy over to replace it. All the while, even as he's switching guitars, the man doesn't miss a beat in his vocal delivery. Then he waits a few bars for an appropriate place to jump back in with the guitar, and picks up where he left off like nothing ever happened. Damn incredible. I'm actually happy that happened for the DVD, because it's cool to watch.

  • @TheGadough He does the same thing on The Lotus Eater. So they went through two guitars and a cable...

  • @TheGadough F@uckin' amazing performance ! Simple as that \m/

  • @TheGadough

nice to have someone covering your ass

  • @TheGadough Dont think theres a proof needed ^^

  • @TheGadough definitely man a true professional. axl rose would have had a fit and ended the show

  • the best metal band in the world

  • all this "headbanging" i like opeth because they have acoustic almost bluesy guitar progression. They moved away from black metal and this is where they should stay.

  • @Lexothphia Opeth was never black metal. They've ALWAYS been death metal with many other styles mixed in.

  • @vio2112 They have had some black metal elements. At least on the first 2 albums. And their first 3 were on Century Black (a black metal label that no longer exists).

  • Opeth is an extremely unique progressive metal band, unlike most other metal bands in that they are intelligent, talented, and sophisticated musicians. There is this overwhelming majority that believes metal is this "brootal", "hardxcore" genre...maybe it is for you. This, however, is progressive metal, or as I like to call it, sophisticated metal. The vibe is different: it's not about being "brootal". It's about bringing a new sophistication and intelligence to the genre.

  • London people are sooo boring, during the WHOLE dvd there´s no jumping, no headbanging, no nothing.

  • @matkhumeia Opeth isn't about headbanging like an idiot. It is about listening.

  • @TheMrAdax Metal is partially about energy. When I saw them in Dublin, I was headbanging for the entire concert (with maybe the exception of Windowpane) because the music kinda took me over.

Only some hipster or some shit like that would say headbanging is for idiots

  • @Redstar226 Most opeth fans are mature minded and prefer to watch them and appreciate the music rather than headbanging like a silly teenager. Opeth are special and people like to watch them when playing live.

  • @TheMrAdax

I'd like you to go & and say ''headbanging and moshing is fucking retarded'' in front of Åkesson, Mendez, Åkerfeldt, Per, & Axe. Especially Mendez.

I doubt you have ever been to a live concert. Fucking dick. When you're listening to a band you like there, you just start to feel it along with everyone else around you, and you just start to do something.. you either dance, headbang, clap the hands, WHATEVER.

So..in short, you're a boring person Adax. Fuck you.

  • @NoShelter15 Hahaha, just shows how immature you are by your language and aggression. Grow up kid.

  • @TheMrAdax

You're again judging headbangers as a whole. Now you also judge Opeth. HAHAHAH

  • @NoShelter15

    bleed

  • @Roofio84

Way to fail as a troll

  • @NoShelter15 I have also seen Opeth 3 times live and just stood there nodding my head to the music like most people, not moshing around like a stupid kid. In a few years you will grow up kid. Grow up kid.

  • @TheMrAdax

You're calling the band kids. They headbang, they're kids. Loving your logic.

  • @NoShelter15 Once again, Grow up kid. If you want to head bang that's fine but there is nothing wrong with just chilling.

  • @TheMrAdax

Let's leave it at that then

  • die

    @TheMrAdax

  • @NoShelter15 bleed

  • @TheMrAdax

MrAdax shouldn't be so negative about enjoying the music.

  • @NoShelter15 WHAT?

  • @TheMrAdax Of course but when it has killer riffs dont you want to jump and fucking kill everyone ?

  • @matkhumeia Not really that's quite immature. It's all about listening and your thoughts.

  • @TheMrAdax

''It's all about listening and your thoughts''

Just who the fuck do you think you are? Having fun is immature? HAHA

''I'm Adax, gonna stand still the whole song, hmm I wonder when that clean part comes in, cause I hate this riff bullshit''

That's exactly what I think of you.

  • @matkhumeia I really don't see the problem, i think seeing a band like Opeth live it's about really enjoying the music and talent behind what you're seeing other than moshing out, and such. Just my opinion.

  • amfuckingmazing! Opeth is my favorite band of all time!

  • 4:31 He's a fuckin genius! o.O

  • Wreath is just stunningly crushing! Play this song LOUD!!!

  • You are kings of "The Royal Hall"! Thank you for a terrific performance! You are wonderful artists!

  • Too bad this song is often overlooked and I'm glad I'm able to watch it live (although it is just on DVD). Perfectly executed. Kiss ass show.

  • The solos in wreath are INCREDIBLE! Mikael plays that 2nd solo perfectly.

  • 1:53 <33333333

  • omg sooo gooooood and the bit at the end is awsome

  • shame his growls fucked up :(

  • I love Opeth!

  • hahaha, its amazing how he was able to remember all the words to growl while he was switching his guitar and looping it over his head and everything, it was so nonchalant.

  • Amazing set but I still think Lamentations is the best DVD!

  • God this is sick... What happened to mickael's guitar ?

  • Axe really puts his stamp on this tune, well done sir.
