This is from a New Year's Eve gala concert on December 31, 2006 and televised on Live from Lincoln Center by PBS. Yes...lovely songbird Audra is charming, funny, and eloquent. The New York Philharmonic is superb! Makes us fall in love, all over again, with the movie and Gene Kelly. Original lyrics and music by Freed and Brown.
I always sing the song in the rain. It get me in a happy mood you know. And like the song say's im ready for love and i've got a smile on my face.... =D c=
It's kind of funny but yesterday I was playing the YouTube video of the original Gene Kelly version of this song, and, of course, his dancing really was terrific - but this version is a great competitor for first place. BTW, if you haven't watched Kelly's (slightly truncated) version, you are really missing something. Kudos to the Gershwin brothers.
Given the quote below I was led to believe otherwise. Thanks! *An American in Paris is a symphonic composition by American composer George Gershwin, composed in 1928. Inspired by time Gershwin had spent in Paris, it is in the form of an extended tone poem evoking the sights and energy of the French capital in the 1920s.* Having seen that, I just assumed that IRA had written all of the lyrics and that, as this quote from Wiki indicates, that George wrote all of the music. Reasonable? :-)
Well, "Singin' in the Rain" appears in the 1952 movie of the same title, as well as a couple of earlier revue pictures. "An American in Paris" is featured in the 1951 movie "An American in Paris."
I realize that - I've seen that movie on television at least 4-5 times. I also know that George Gershwin was long since dead when this movie was produced. That was a real shame. IMHO he was the greatest American composer ever. To fans of Copland - please no flaming in comments or YouTube messages.

she sings and she has great comedic timing! I love he lil' candid quotes:
"I'm not gonna introduce this next song, if you don't know it shame on you!"
"I ain't dancin' though!"
"come on sing with me!"
and her exit verse was CLASSIC and ORIGINAL! ^_^

"Singin' in the Rain" is by Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed, not the Gershwins.
