  • terrible jesus give that man a packet of tunes

  • @henryhaven haha

  • Deja vu

    She's a sweet girl !

    With hindsight !

    So sad !

  • Omg this woman is a complete and utter idiot. It was right of Lilly Allen to lose her shit with her the other time. Its like after something so beautiful she punctures the silence with her loud annoying voice, goes on to talk about SOMEONE WALKING HER DOG?!! WTF??!!! LIKE SERIOUSLY !!

  • Really like Elbow but this wasn't a good choice for them.

  • What a lovely band to say such genuine things about Amy ...when she was still alive

  • His singing is flat. It's also lifeless. Terrible cover, in my opinion, especially when Amy does it so well

  • @deserthawk1 I think his "flat" singing amplifies the bitterness, sorrow, and overall gloomy tone of the song. This cover is beautiful, but none could surpass the original.

  • Would've been fantastic and mellow without the stick banging to keep time.

  • I really really really hate Jo Wiley, She has no opinion just says everything is gd, will b seein you in hell bitch :)

  • I loved it!

  • thanks lads

  • hmmm.. never really got going.

  • Garv nails it... Haven't seen a better tribute to Amy anywhere else! RIP Amy

  • R.I.P Amy.

  • My favourite cover ever I think. RIP Amy :-(

  • Hauntingly beautiful.

  • best live lounge cover ever, you really felt the song come from inside him

  • The strings are an excellent addition. However, I must say the same song has two completely different meanings--- depending on who sings it, of course. This is nothing like Winehouse's take on it. I do enjoy the original better, but this was pleasant.

  • Love the violins

  • Jo "listen to me i'm so cool" Whiley, just shut the fuck up!!

  • Stop talking about the fucking like button and LISTEN.

  • Excellent cover - what a voice

  • this is the 1st time i ever heard of elbow and was really impressed with this cover

  • JW doesn't even leave a second after the song! flipping radio DJs

  • awww so sweet at the start :) amazing cover love elbow

  • wooo im sorry this tune kills all emotions... walk a lonley night by yourself with your tunes and you will forget where you are.... killer tune. and im a hip hop head!!! so if you dont like it your a fool! i agree whileys voice kills the end!!!

  • Great band singing a great singers song awesome!

  • Jo Whileys voice at the end of this is so fucking annoying

  • Fantastic cover !!

  • If I could be in any band in the world, I'd be in Elbow - they are so kick-ass but they don't have some uber ego like most bands do once they get big.

  • how the fuck can you dislike this? someone tell me please.

  • @mowchowchicken It's so epic it melted the remain's of the brain and then when they tried to use what was left to hit the like button the mouse slipped. That's the only reason i cn think of.

  • true what he said bout amy. brilliant cover.

  • perfection..tears.

  • Elbow are a fucking great band. With a fucking great front man. They are finally getting the recognition they so deserve. Been a fan since the single Red.

  • im sorry, but this was INSANLEY annoying. I have no doubt the band are talented, but that string arrangement, accompanied by that almost metronome like beat, raped my ears all together. dislike.

  • This truly is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever. So much better than the original.

  • fuckin' deadly band!! :D

  • i was hoping the was gonna be ACDC's back in black :(

  • @VickyToria123456789... Na other wise it would of been back in black...not back to black :)

  • @fretboardtj7 :) oh yeah, silly me, I realised this a day after i wrote it but I still think it would be an amazing cover anyhow

  • I like this cover! But I was sitting halfway through thinking "When are they gonna speed it up?"

  • BURY

  • great fuckin band.. simple..

  • BURY.......and the North of England in General......what a great place on earth that has produced some of the best bands to ever grace our '' ears''

  • I love elbow, but the song lacks a bit of the creativity i've come to expect from the live lounge, still great band and a decent cover.

  • i dont really like it, the original way better

  • elbow can do wrong for me

    class

  • voldermourt!

  • i love elbow ...they are always gooooooooooood....and this song is amazing...i don't feel like i want to listen to the original coz this is great....

  • I prefer the original one from Amy. Far more emotion in it!

  • Prefer this to the original.

  • Anyone who doesn't think this is sublime should take a long, hard look at their record collection.

  • I fucking love Guy Garvey, he's an absolute legend

  • its way 2 slow, his voice is gd 4 it but the tempo is just way 2 slow

  • @RMBlaze89 Guy`s rendition is perfect, you can hear the metronome setting the pace. I think using violins adds meaning/depth to the song and thats where Amy lacks. Quite simply....i love it.

  • kept his what wet?

  • wick. i think they changed it from dick

  • Breaks my heart. Every time.

  • it's good, very good.... only it just lacks the somewhat swingy beat it should have... but tis beautiful :-)

  • LMAO at electricrock! i lolled!

  • Have you never heard Elbow before? This is their style, an ironic lifelessness. They do a lot of songs that subtly stab at the flaws in society.

  • no i havent, i spose its just not my style. i still think they are not suited for this song though

  • I recommend listening to some of their original songs, and you'll see how the singer's voice sounds so much better there.

  • why do you say his voice is bad here?

    it is great.

and its a very fiting interpretation of this song, since its really not a happy one.

  • That offends me.

  • It's got to be one of the best covers to come out of the live lovnge

  • this makes me cry , i don't care if that sounds gay i have a lot of memories of this song and a dear friend of mine who passed

  • That's beautiful.

  • I'll elbow you in the nose!

  • Fantastic cover! This band can do no wrong!!!!!!!!!!

  • My dream just became true.

  • great

  • Ahhhh like it verry much. Took me a few times listening to it but it grows on you.. Got the cd of Elbow with the bbc so listen to that a lot but like this song verry much to.

  • Love this version its much better slower. :)

  • This is good, and I think Winehouse is a complete dick.

I prefer their cover of Amerie one thing - that is the best cover I think I have heard!

  • I loved amy's verison but I think this is better. I love Guy's voice, he conveys so much emotion.

  • Elbow: for people who watch Dave

  • I love Elbow. Guy rocks. This is a great cover of a great song..... You find the true meaning of the song.

However, i much prefer it when they mess about like with "Our Mary - One thing" that is comedy genius.

  • OMFG love the amh version but, i think better..... more feeling wot a dark cover love the violins, killer tune!

  • don't prefer it to the original, but pretty good

  • Guy's voice is always amazing.

  • What does he say in the two first verses? I can' t understand. Thanks to whoever answers.

  • the original verse...what else?

  • We were thinking for a couple of days of what to do,

and we reckon this song in particular,

probably defines the last couple of years in british music,

and also is an oportunity to say that the artist is someone who was in the press an awful lot and I think you should only go on your experience to people. And having met her a few times, I just know her to be a very sweet girl who works very very hard.

It's elbow in the live lounge (Jo Wiley, BBC Radio1)

  • they're magnificent! So honest, down-to-earth, love them!

  • I love the Winehouse version of this (though not a huge fan of hers normally), and I love Elbow, so thought this would blow me away.

This version is soooo dark, I can't work out if I like it or not....it's grown on me a bit after a few plays!

  • I don't really know about this,it's kind of depressing, and I thought the original was depressing...this is almost beyond depressing.Sorry.

  • I thought it was alright. His voice is always good.

  • Elvis Costello !!!!!!!

  • yeah, same here, i really wanted to like this (Elbow is awesome!) but ... too slow, too syrupy... I do enjoy their cover of U2's Running to Stand Still on the War Child/Heroes release...

  • its a shame as i wanted to like this

but nothing popped and made me go wow

  • blatently trying to copy the rumblestrips version..

  • winehouse is a great writer and elbow are a great band therefore it works

  • @joethfc 100% sure winehouse did not write this...

  • @Cielouvert2000 wikipedia says otherwise

  • Don't like it. Bring back the witch!

  • didn't work did it?

  • na it didn't

  • does that code thing actually do nefin to ur background ??

  • I really don't like this actually, and I expected to. His voice doesn't suit this song at all. Does it sound a little flat to anyone else?

  • he reminds me of stephen fry and marcus mumford fro some reason!!!!

  • I love Elbow :D

  • powerful stuff indeed. They're spot on about Amy (ignore the press stuff) - works hard, writes well, if she's not well that's her business. They completely make Back to Black their own - stunning.

  • I like the way they changed a jazzy instrumentation from the orginal to a funeral, melancholic procession in this cover. Very heatfelt and subtle and it's their own take on it(which is what a cover's all about anyway). A depressing listen, but a brill cover IMO and related directly to the song: Back to Black SHOULD be depressing and healtfelt.

  • I really dislike this - his voice doesnt go with the song & its like the same monotone sometimes Ahhh oh well.. Elbow are pretty goood though aha

    xx

  • Elbow- mazing

  • His voice is like VELVET

  • the music in the backround does it no favours.

  • I LOVE ELBOW!

  • im not a fan of winehouse version im prob the only one like. i love this version of it though

  • i reckon charlie waller's version with mark ronson is still better

  • I think an Elbow-Winehouse colaboration would be amazing. If it hasn't happened already.

  • that would be amazin! u should put it to them u would make millions!

  • This is really good. They so deserve every award they get, they've waited long enough. Bless them, saying all that about Winehouse.

  • Remember hearing this with my friend on a road trip, we were completely dumb founded, this cover is absolutely gorgeous, much better than the original in my opinion.

  • it's just beautiful in my opinion...

  • I really like the way he sings this

  • Beautiful...

  • are you kidding? explain how they butcherd it? are you a kooks fan or something?

  • no not particularly!

to quote smacateer "its not as good as the original because most of the song stays on the same note..."

I just found it really boring and Flat!!

  • ok. fair point. but to say they butcherd it is slightly unfair, in my opinion, yeah it does stay on the same note but the strings and vocals in this version are beautiful. I like the original version but i'm also an avid elbow fan so thats why i love this one so much as well.... that and i love a good musical debate!!

  • I suppose if it was a song/artis/s that i felt passionate about and saw sum1 had put "butcherd it" then i wud be kinda pissed aswell so i dont mind a debate either :).....but thats still my opinion.

  • Outstanding cover!

  • if u listen to the lyrics on seldom seen kid Guy is a Poet. imo

  • if u like the song listen to this version....its excellent!!!

Charlie from The Rumble Strips & Mark Ronson (FULL VERSION)

  • beautifull

  • its soooooooooo depressing!

    kill me now! :)

  • Wow, such a fab version! I love Elbow, their version of Destiny's Child's Independant Women is ace, you should be able to find it on here

  • Its part of the Live Lounge session's. So its an acoustic kind of arrangement. Hence its not going to 'drop the beat'.

I think its a lot better than the original. There an incredible band and the tempo suits the arrangement.

  • geez, this is soooooo great, his voice is awesome!

  • you should listen to Grounds For Divorce AHHH its Freaking Gooood :P

  • Please don't any of you even compare this to her version, nothing can beat her she's probably one of the most original and unique song writer & singers around. This is nice though :)

  • its not as good as the original because most of the song stays on the same note and only a truly great singer can keep it moving and interesting like amy winehouse

these guys are good but they arent in the same league as winehouse

  • what the fuck?

i'll admit they could of picked a better cover.

but amy winehouse is just a good singer.

and at that she completely takes the piss out of any hard working upcoming singer/songwriters by turning up to most her shows wasted as fuck!

she was brilliant but now all i see in the paper is her runnin about with no top on.

elbow on the other hand are perfect

the seldom scene kid is such a beautiful album by a band who put all their hearts in the music.

    so shut the fuck up.

  • hey my opinion is this is a shit cover

my opinion is what happens out of the recording studio doesnt affect how good a singer you are

but thats just my opinion and obviously not yours

  • i like your opinion, alot better xD

its true, you dont judge a singer by what they do, apart from sing?

  • does any 1 know how to download any tune for the purpose of putting it onto mobile?

    Thanks

  • did someone die?

  • Beautiful vocals! Personally I prefer this version over the original.

  • HHmmn I really thought this was a good effort but I kept waiting for it to kick in, it kept building up but never dropped the beat. Still very nice slow heartbreaking song.

  • evryone seems to be knocking them on this effort, i think the music fits the lyrics PERFECTLY, at the end jo wiley says her lyrics are underated, which is so true n u can tell cos the backing tracks amy sings on rarely suits her words. dont get me wrong the original was a tune but how can u have such an upbeat song to accompany such heartbreaking words?? WELL DONE ELBOW GREAT COVER!!

  • what slow part? it's all slow! you gotta love the strings though. and you can actually hear the lyrics, unlike in the original version

  • ups, you are right, they kept the same tempo all the time, I meant the part that usually is slower (in this video at 3:20) the "black...black" part. that is to me a very special part of the song. but again, I respect the effort. Since I come from Mexico, I am used not understanding the lyrics so I tend to focus more on the music (melody and sounds) I don't want to discourage them, I am sure they will do better, not yet though. keep working on it. It's just my honest feed back.

  • GOOSEBUMPS!

  • SHIVERS DOWN MY SPINE!!

  • wow...i love it

  • sorry, no. it's not working. leave the song to amy.

  • wow! So moving...

  • I wish this were the actual video, but I understand copyright issues...nonetheless, this is probably the most potent cover of anything I've ever heard. Of course, one can't expect less from that of Elbow!

  • about 18 years and 4 albums..

    if that's new..wow.
