bought a new dyson 33. on first run, horrible grinding noise started the first time i nudged up against a piece of furniture. and i mean nudged. took it back. got another one. second run, SAME noise happened in same scenario. FOUR hundred dollars for this?!
I was happy to find this video because I had EXACTLY the same noise. I have pets, so the beater bar is always wrapped in pet hair - I cut that off regularly. That definitely helps the noise. But today, it was particularly bad. I found that the gear on the brush motor that drives the belt that turns the brush was absolutely caked in hair (I've never cleaned that gear). I ended up disassembling down to the motor, cleaned it, and now there's no grinding noise at all!
This JUST happened to me. I took the brush and belt off, and there was a TINY rock between the belt and the rotor. Picked the little guy out and the Dyson returned to normal. Only tool needed was a coin to take the bottom plate off. No phone call, no road trip.
A friend of mine wanted to buy a new dyson, his old one dies this days. So far he is not deaf and he has a lot of dust bunnies under his furniture.Thanks to your videos on youtube and your shared experience he now looks in another direction.
mine did the same thing and it was the lower motor that drives the belt bar. I took the belt off and got clicking/grinding when I tried to spin it by hand. A new motor down there should have fixed the problem unless it was installed improperly I just took mine, cleaned it out with electronics cleaner, and put it back in and voila no more grinding noise
I agree, I was in a vacuum shop today to do some maintenance on my Riccar (that is 18 years old and still running strong). There were 16 vacuums ahead of my for repair. 13 of them were DYSON !! Convinced me to never buy one.
This same thing happened to mine. you have some dirt on on the belt and between the gear thing the belt attaches to. take the bottom off the vacuum and pull the brush bar out. you will see the belt. the belt is attached to a silver gear looking thing that looks like a watch gear. it is a silver metal thing with grooves so the teeth of the belt can fit down in it.
on mine, there was gunk on my metal gear which made my belt slip. the noise was identicle. hope this helps.
That is not normal as you know. Dyson need to do something about this. In UK they would have sorted this out. Perhaps if you contact Dyson UK about this in writing to see as that is not acceptable. I had. DC04 that made wiered noises so I called them and they got an engineer to change the clutch ( he didn't even check first, just changed the part).
My recommendation to anyone that is going to buy a dyson make sure you buy it from someone that offers a warranty of their own or from a company that will take care of you since dyson will not be there for you when you need them most.
Well we just got our vacuum back for the fourth time and it still makes the same loud noise so we called dyson and they told us that is how it is going to be and they would not be willing to help us and they would not fix the problem. Talk about bad customer service.
We have had our vacuum in 4 times now they have replaced the belt 2 times the belt bar 3 times and the bet bar motor. Dyson refuses to give us a refund or provide us with a new vacuum even after four tries to fix the vacuum we have been without a vacuum for almost two months why Dyson tries to fix the problem
That's odd, because my neighbor supposedly had similar problems (their belt broke; it obviously somethign wrong with your guys's belt system or motor driving it) and Dyson replaced it for them - supposedly, and they have no reason to lie - free of charge and with prompt action.
Sad to hear about your situation though, but there is evidence that Dyson DOES and WILL stand behind their products, though it is a shame you have to suffer this.

have you tried a new soleplate? tit could be damaged and put it in correctly and the brush could be rubbing on the soleplate 2 make the noise
