  • you were as good as i was back in the day, most awesome of games, was never really good t the top down stages though

  • @SuperBinjuice Thanks dude, yeah the top down bits can be a bit disorientating I find :)

  • @michealleed00d Thanks Dude, don't blame you dude such a great series of games :)

  • great looking game...looks hard...but graphics are excellent

  • @Ready03 It's not as bad as I had remembered tbh Barry, just takes a lot of timing with the jumps and like most of these games remembering patterns for bosses. Great game though, well worth a playthrough :)

  • Sorry mate, this video seems to have passed me by.

Great choice for a gameplay vid, Operation C was my favourite game on the Gameboy and you couldn't beat Gryzor on the CPC 464, doesn't matter what system you've got they're all rock solid though.

I've never seen that 2nd level, it's really cool, it messes with your head a bit though! ha ha I like how the Contra games mix the levels up a bit, it's not all side scrolling, keeps you on your toes. Great gameplay Pete!

  • @LeBossu77 No worries Owen :) Gryzor FTW lol that takes me right back dude awesome game :) Sure does keep you on your toes dude, it's getting used to spinning the screen with the shoulder buttons and not getting shot that makes it a little tough but looks really cool as well lol

  • Good stuff Pete, classic game this although you said it's the first time you've played it - did you mean ever or in a long time? I remember a friend imported this back when it came out and it just looked amazing. The Mode 7 looks really good too :)

  • @bluetonic78 Thanks Alex, I meant since I was a kid and then it was super probotector so technically the 1st time I've played the Contra III version :) I love Mode 7 it really shows the coolness of the snes I think :)

  • Me and my mate decided to bang this n and play it a few months back, Pizza couple of beers and lots of motherf***ing bullets !! ;-) Never finished it though, close but no cigar ! We refused to use the extra lives but maybe next time we will have to. Nothing better than going retro with a friend ! especially when it's a game this good !

  • @AFIDD21 lolcouldn't agree more dude, the perfect multi-player game, that's why i'm not keen on internet multi-player, it will never replace hanging with friends and drinking some beers and playing games together. It's like Halo CE split screen co-op, it don't get better than that or streetfighter winner stays on with a group of mates :)

  • @Snestastic Yep ! Streetfighter sometimes got a little heated ! Goldeneye aswell ! must not forget Goldeneye !!

  • Enjoyed that thanks

  • @kazxena No probs, glad you liked it :)

  • Ahhh this bought back so many classic memories of a brillinat game! As good as a tech demonstration the top down bits were I was never much of a fan of them cos to be it just wasn't Contra!

    Great Video

  • @lawnboyspost1975 Cheers Dave, too true dude but I suppose they just wanted to squeeze as much mode 7 in as possible just to show off, at least it comes across that way lol

  • looks a lot o fun that does. you're just filmin the screen eh? looks fine. dont need dazzle or whatever i guess. i want to do some gameplay vids but i dont know the first thing about console screen capture.

so thats probotector then? cool, ive got that to look forward to when i finally get my stereo scart cable from the US for my MD

  • @shenmueso Yep just aim and shoot the screen dude, found recently that using the little cross hair on the camera screen makes all the difference, aim it at the middle of the screen and it stops the flicker which is excellent. I'm not a big fan of capture vids myself. Yep it's called Contra Hard Corps on the MD I believe, it's another one I wanna give a try at some point :)

  • classic game series.

  • contra 3 has to be one of my favorite snes games of all time. its fun single player or multi-player. its hard, but thats half the fun. i agree with you, the homing missiles are definitely the best. i also dont mind the 3 spread gun either, as it works well if there are a lot of bad guys in front of you

  • @rammsteinfan234 It is a total classic isn't it Matthew :) Spread gun works really well, the lazer is my least fave weapon, it's so crap lol

  • @Snestastic haha your right the lazer does suck. i would honestly rather use the starter gun than the lazer one lol

  • Played this in co-op with a buddy yesterday. We got through easy and ran out of continues on the final boss on normal, had an absolute blast! Though I think I might actually prefer the Probotector robots, ha.

  • @JazzemBros lol nice one dude, I'm gonna put some more time in and see if I can complete it, I love this game. Yeah the robots are way cooler :)

  • I love this game and have it i my collection: I find it to be one of the hardest Contra title available on any console. Well, maybe Hard Corps, but that doesn't share the title. Great review and game all the same. Happy Turkey-Day!!

  • @willgraham13 I've not played Hard Corps, that's one I want to track down eventually, how does it differ to Contra III dude? Happy Thanksgiving :)

  • My mate Pegger had this. I recalled it being the "night ender" of games as once he put it on you weren't getting a look in. Ace game Pete.

  • @lakepalmer Cheers Lake, I played this to death as a kid, I'm very rusty these days and need to keep playing to get better but so much fun :)

  • hands down my fav retro game..

  • @brewt1mer It is a total classic isn't it, have you completed it dude? I can't remember if I did as a kid, gonna take a lot of trys these days though lol

  • @Snestastic of course..its not that hard a game..contra shattered soldier on the ps2 was much harder...

  • Super Probotector :D

  • @GermanGameRoom Robots FTW :)

  • Absolutely beautiful :). I love games like this, I just can't put them down though, so addictive! Really enjoying these classic SNES vids :)

  • @ninjabearhug Thanks Dude, i'm finally getting to grips with my camera as well and understanding how to film the tv properly by using the little cross hair and aiming it at the middle of the tv, seems to stop the flicker :)

  • Nice gameplay, really makes me want to pick this up again instead of getting Super Probotector (never really saw the point of the name change and changing the guys to robots).may have to look into modding my snes sometime in the future.I seem to remember the flamethrower being a useful weapon on lvl 3,dont quote me on that though ;)

  • @concretecodpiece I think your right about the flamethrower dude, i'm gonna have to give it a go, i'm pretty crap with it atm lol, yeah I'd like to know why they changed it, I have to assume it was some kinda copyright or some other pointless reason lol

  • @ the end of the video " this time i'm gonna do it properly, no i'm not im gunna die"...... XD

  • LOve it - 2D greatness!

  • @broken1394 Thanks J, can't beat the classic 2D games :)

  • Great gameplay of a legendary game matey :)

  • @XFile2708 Thanks Marcus, have you expanded your snes collection yet mate? In fact do you have a snes atm? I can't remember lol

  • @Snestastic Yes ive still got a SNES matey.. havent expanded the collection for a while though as im determined to focus as much as possible on completing the PAL MD collection :)

  • @XFile2708 Good too know you still have it though Marcus :) Are you gonna go hardcore MD collecting now? Shouldn't take you too long or are they all the £50+ games now?

  • @Snestastic There's still a few pricey ones left to get but I'll bide my time and get them at a price I want to pay rather than paying over the odds for the sake of rushing completing the collection.

I've also got the PAL Master System to complete and full UKV Gameboy collections.. but saying that I also plan to get the Aus PAL exclusive MD titles as well as some of the better Genesis and Jap MD exclusives... lol

  • @XFile2708 lol I dunno how you do it i'd go mad trying to juggle all those balls :) Good idea with the PAL MD though no rush and you'll get better deals if you take your time. Gonna be pretty impressive when it's finished, bet your gonna be pretty chuffed :)

  • @Snestastic Very much so matey... seeing as there's a complete PAL collection on Ebay right now for 10k... shows the sort of value its actually worth... :)

  • Superb gameplay Pete, still have my usa copy I bought on release back in the day, used to love this game but it was bloody tough :) As I'm more into the sfc now last month I picked up a japanese copy & it was the first time I'd played it in years & I also think it still holds up very well. Sorry, I had to lower the difi level to see the later levels lol

Like you said its because 2d games never show their age as much as say early 3d which can look ropey, 2d sprite based games are the future :)

  • @craigsheree Cheers Craig :) Totally 2D games are going to be timeless but the early 3D can look pretty terrible, having said that though I played Mario 3D last night and it still looks stunning, i've noticed that with early 3D you see very sharp edges for the polys but they still made the games colourful and overall beautiful. Is Mario 3D true 3D or pseudo on a 2D plain? Oh and the Jap version is one of the very rare bad cover arts for an SFC game lol

  • @Snestastic tbh I have yet to play mario 3ds, my eyes are basically knackered lol I cant be bothered to go to the opticians & so struggle on, the only problem is I do struggle with handhelds, the 3ds games I have played I do think are very good though, the mrs has been playing mario & thinks its great, I was meaning early 3d polygon saturn & ps1 games can look ropey, like you say 2d will be timeless, look at the superb art gone into SF & neo fighters, amazing stuff & very beautiful :)

  • While I suck at all things Contra..........I still want this game! lol

Talking and playing... that's what hurt me on my Contra gameplay...lol....I am thinking I should stay away from chewing gum and walking at the same time....I could get seriously injured...lol

  • @BigDaddyDarth lol you should definitely track it down Dan, does it not show up in Vintage Stock? I know you rin the same area as Sandamtod so assume you check out VS :) lol yep it's amazing how it go's too pieces once you switch the camera on :)

  • @Snestastic

It does...but they always want to much for it. I'm a cheapskate...lol

One of these days I will find a cheaper copy. ^_^

  • Absolutely awesome game. I used to be able to breeze through this on the hardest setting but these days i couldn't do it on easy.... It sure does suck to get old.

    Great vid, great memories.

  • @rippy123456 lol I was surprised that I can play it on Normal as I expected to just die loads and when I got too the third level I was quite chuffed with myself :)

  • Great vid great game .

  • @timeteam1982 Thanks Dude :)

  • this makes me wnat to keep my snes packed up

  • This is a great game.. Makes me want to leave work and go home and play it..

  • @OldSkoolBrian lol sorry to do that to you Brian, good reason to have a day off though lol, also nice too know your working hard watching YT vids lol

  • Looks a good game....

  • @MrMcoleman28 It's fantastic Michael, i'd recommend it for your snes, not sure if you know but it's called Super Probotector over here :)

  • Nice man! Contra is just classic!

  • @antrite08 Thanks Dude, Sure is :)
