  • Tibetans eat meat-Yak. They are not vegetarian.

  • @gichimanidoo ; I meant that many are vegetarian Though most do eat meat, there were and are many, mostly monks, that are vegetarian and have been living healthy for a long time just like the Indian people, mostly from South India.

  • thank you from my heart with love and respect

  • I am Native American and I would like for you to tell me which of many Indian Cultures are vegetarian cultures? I know of no such cultures and neither does our Res Chief or our medicine Man. You may know of such cultures, as we do not know of all cultures in North America. I do agree that all meat we eat tocay is contaminated with too many add in's but the vegetables we eat are no better since they are genetically modified and the fertilizer is all chemicals!

  • @picspark: Many people of South-India are vegetarians. Most hindus are vegetarians too. The yoigis also. I guess you mixed it up with Native Americans?

I have nothing against meat eating, though I am a vegan eating only biological products. But it's the ongoing cruelty in mass-industry plus the unnatural feed these poor animals get. yes, almost everything is contaminated, that's why I promote people to grow their own stuff or buy free-range, biological meat, vegetables and fruits.

  • @arafel1964 Sorry, I assumed that since you were playing a song of the Native Americans and showing pictures of Native Americans which are commonly referred to as Indians (Which is fine with me) That was the culture that everyone was referring to! Many people, mostly those from outside North America quite often have the wrong view of us as a people. We are no different than any other culture in the world. We are not Holy and commit as many crimes per capita as anyone else. Yes we are GREEDY!

  • @picspark ; It's oke, the discussion started with HuhaMaza about 1 year ago saying I would offend if I wouldn't take meat from deers offered to me because it's their gift to us. I said that respect goes 2 ways. He said that vegetarians can not survive in nature. I didn't agree so I replied that many Tibetans and Indian people, which I mean from India, are doing fine as vegetarians. The Indian yogis have a health, strenght and stamina that's much better than from the average westerner.

  • @picspark "We are no different than any other culture in the world."

Still, there's something about your culture that attracts people as much as (Tibetan) buddhsim attracts people It's obvious that something is offered that the church can't. Maybe because NA once lived in harmony with nature. The teachings from the Elders appeal to many people in an increasingly polluted and destroyed world. People are increasingly immoral and many seek guidance.

  • @arafel1964 When you have a small population, you can live in harmony with nature, but nature can only feed a smaller population given the area you claim as yours. This is one reason there were many raids carried out by tribes on each other. The Southwestern part of the US is a good area to show what I mean. The Anasazi (the Ancient Ones) is an example of growing too large and depleting Nature. Chaco Canyon is another example and they believe this happened to the Aztecs as well.

  • @picspark @picspark ; I agree with this, but much of complete destruction came at hand of the white coloniser. During the black slavery Africa was plundered of it's resources, fruitfull lands turned into desserts. Corrupt blacks were put in places of power and look now what Africa has become. Same goes for some places in America. And weren't many of the Natives not killed due to sickness brought by the colonisers whether or not on purpose (blankets with disease)

  • @arafel1964 The ancient peoples around the world used to try to work in harmony with nature until populations soared to the point that nature was stretched too far and could no longer support such large populations. Then the people had to disperse into tribes and go to other areas. Because Europe in not as large, and is mostly cold, technology had to improve or else. The NA never went beyond the stone age. This I believe was because of no schools and your destiny was to be a hunter or warrior!

  • @picspark ; I agree mostly. But the slaughtering of all buffalo's as a means to deprive the Native American for food could have given them many centuries of food. Since theey always killed the weak and sick ones. Today this is done by Tibetan nomades though also they are now forced to give up their original life en become assimilated. The Europeans just havest the complete plant, complete fields until nothing is left. With more care we could have a lot more.

  • I love the song, but I was wondering if there was a translation?

  • nice song nice video

    thanks

  • lets throw the meat aside and just listen to the music.............god damn

  • North American Indian music never fails to bring a tear or two to my eyes.

  • What's wrong with you? Some domestic animals are for eating, I wouldn't eat a wolf or raccoon or deer for sure. But there's nothing wrong with chicken.

  • i want to see a dance choreographed to this song it would be so awesome and dramatic

  • I love this song. Music like that can`t be described with words.

If I had to choose a word, it would be 'harmony'.

Thank you for the beautiful music!

  • Anyone know if there are lyrics for this song?

  • Sehr schöner Song......

  • laziness is the cultures biggest problem including me. I mean who wants to sit and give thanks to what nurtures us. Its better to just sit in the stagment waters of our ego's. i honestly have never gave thanks to the animals that have sacrificed their lives. And reading your comments really makse me realize how much i am missing out on in life just from not experiencing the gratitude and respect i could be. Unfortunatley some ppl see that as a chore not somthing of worth.

  • I have lived among the people and respect the Six Nations and all they stand for. MN

  • I like this song on her "Peace & Power" album because it stands out as being the most complex, suddenly changing instruments, tempo, and voice and having a wider variety of lyrics (sadly making it the hardest to memorize too, but alas). When you first hear that tiny dripping noise you're not remotely expecting the powerful chorus that comes later; it was a cool surprise the first time I heard this. And her music always gives me goosebumps in a good way in general. :)

  • I love this song, it's so soothing. i've always wished that i was native american...alas no =(. Many thanks for posting this video.

    Blessings

  • Have loved this song since I was a little child... thanks so much for making it available to the 20k+ people on YouTube.

  • there is such a tribe called the Wolf clan?! *sighs* oh how i wish i could be a part of that clan. i think i would fit in better

  • @rdm61230 Clans was sub divisions within the Native Nation, they are not tribes.

Joanne's Uncle and cousins are members of the wolf clan. II know her and her late mother. I have a war club that was made by her uncle.

  • @Eagle027 ah i see. i meant no offence. also when you see her tell her i greatly respect her and love her voice. when i hear her sing this song i think of wolves danceing in the canyons around a blazing fire.

  • this melody is so familiar..wonder if other artists have made another version

  • The Indian, Tibetan Bon have lived healthy, long lives without meat. The massindustry gives us meat that is fucked up, the feed they give to animals, the way they keep them, the way they treat animals when being transported to a slaughterhouse. This is disrespect to animals, in many cultures viewed as living beings. If 1 has to live from animals cause no other options are left it´s oke, besides that only a vegetarian or vegan life is an option

  • you can't take yourself out of the cycle.. you would disrespect their gift of life for us, you don't know that we were put here weak and powerless and it is the animals that have kept us alive and lifted us up, that is why we thank them.. if we stop eating them it is an affront to their gift

  • There´s a difference between killing animals for food and the way mass-industry treat animals. Cow-chicken feed contains animalcomponents like grinded feathers and bones and huge amount of anti-biotics which will cause a resistance and probably BSE and SARS. It contains much chemicals, genetically modified corn and soy (google; Monsanato). Besides risk for human health, it´s an unnatural way of raising animals for food. Being vegan or vegetarian takes you out from this circle

  • @arafel1964 and then one of us goes to hand you food in a traditional manner and you deny reception of it.. that is a big offense in our culture.. because you are vegan you turn away from food regularly procured because you deny all meat. humans cannot exist in nature as vegetarians

  • @arafel1964 Amen.

  • @arafel1964 I have to agree. The gift (blessing) should be respected, plant or animal. We share life with them both.

  • @arafel1964 This is the white mans way-- check youtube for this

Rosebud Hog Factory - Part 1 - White man has no respect for animals.

  • I'm aware of the name, rumours say that animals are suffering. Bio-industry is indeed a white men's invention to have more money for less costs creating endless suffering. I'm not against eating meat like it happened when Native Americans used to hunt and picked out the oldest/sickest ones. It's mass-industry and all the ingrediënts in animalfeed that disgusts me. I'm aware that animists cultures like Native American, Aborigines and Bon-Buddhists had a lot more respect for animals.

  • Your reactionunfortenately is not displayed yet. What I deny is MASS-INDUSTRY MEAT; cow feed filled with grinded bones, feathers, huge amouns of anti-biotics and chemicals. Many Indian cultures haven been vegetarian for decades. If I desperately need food I would accept any kind IF there are no other options left. Respect goes 2 ways and not one. If a culture has vegetables, rice or corn to offer I would take that and if I refuse meat than it´s up to the other to respect that.

  • @arafel1964 ....This is EXACTLY how I see this issue about eating animals. Many cultures around the world would eat animals because sometimes, it was the only foods available. Like animals who hunt other animals to eat for survival. Sadly though, like you said, its now a mass meat industry. Our bodies were not originally intended to be fed with anything other than food that grows from the earth, unless that's not an option...I'm not Native American, but this is how I feel about this issue

  • i feed the deer to my FAMILY!!!!

  • @HOTINONSHONNI ; if you need to hunt because you have no money to buy food or because you rather prefer an animal who lived free instead of the living hell of mass-industry and the unnatural treatment as well as the chemical stuff in the feed than I rather prefer hunting old and sick animals. But for most people there are alternatives enough instead of eating meat or hunt for fun and like I said and I'm vegan; whether in mass-industry or diary industry the animals are abused and live in a hell.

  • I don't like 'deer kills' and I dedicate this song to honor the spirit of the deer. :(

  • I've known Joanne Shenandoah since she was a child, and most of her family. Her brother Jerry is a close friend and like me a deer hunter.

  • You are one lucky person to have known this great woman. I have, though I am a vegan, less problems with hunting than with mass bio-industry where animals are suffering and live in a living hell the moment they are brought in.

At least the deers have spend some times in freedom and if one chooses the weak, sick and old ones, without destroying the complete herd, like I've heard the Native people were used to, it's oké.

  • this song is not about the deer roaming free and being happy,,,its about the haudenosaunee survivng from them,,for years

  • @HOTINONSHONNI ; I did not know this but I saw the title and thought it had to do something with deers; either as animal they respected or as an animal which they thanked as food source, the hides for clothes and every other part of the animal for other things like it was used to be done with the buffalo.

  • are you understand this song? I want too!:) PLEASE put there original and translated lyrics!:)

  • are you understand this song? I want too! Please put there original and translated lyrics:)

  • Nothing wrong with killing an animal so long as it is not wasted.Just dont forget to give thanks.

  • Agreed. Though I'm a vegan and think there are enough alternatives for meat and people don't really need it, I also know that some people, like the Inuit and Tibetans, depend on it since fruit and vegetables are hard to get. But the Tibetans never abuse their animals, kill it as fast as possible with as less pain as possible and then thank it, pray for it and waste nothing. They treat animals with respect instead of the animals who suffer and are abused in mass-industry like the cage chickens.

  • @sksman71 i get exactly wat u mean, those are people who kill game for fun which is wrong and there are others who kill game, and they respect what they have killed and use its resources...

  • I love this song !

  • Anyway this song is a good connection to them, it's not always the fact with contemporaty Native-American music.

  • I like the image in the beginning, the four quarters of harth... white:fire, yellow:air, black:water, red:earth.Remembering to me that our ancestors knew what can bring manking to progress:collaboration in diversity of culture ,since it is the fruit of consciousness ,each time a nation tried to rule the world, mankind stop it's progression. They prophesied that it will happen when the ones who want to rule the world will be silenced, it must happen to three nations and three religions.

  • Good song.

  • Thank you Joanne! I love your singing and the native style you use! I have longed for such music. I use to listen to my mother sing in navajo and now she is long gone. Your music has been a reminder of who we are. Made from the Lord God. Praise His holy name that he sent you to us. Esther Rogers-Scaman Dine' from Colorado.

  • Animals and nature helps balance our lives.

  • Thank you, i love it so much its not to be decribed...can somebody please translate it? It shouldn't take long...if it will have some spiritual meaning, something like 'dive within' 'look within' 'the kingdom of god is within you' this will be my favourite song in the world.Peace and Love

  • I think it's something about the spiritual nature of animals and the inter connecteness of humans, environment and animals. But I ask some friends of mine and if they can translate it, I'll tell you.

  • Actually there are no words, all chants or vocables as they are called.

  • Wonderful

  • Lovely melody, I like this kind of music, although I am only an "ordinary mainstream" european. Or exactly because of that, it feels like exploring a new world. Glad to be on the track here now for finding more of the works of professional native american musicians. Thanks for posting.

  • I really like this song I hope its ok to share on here NIce!!!!!

  • Beautiful as always.

  • This is so very beautiful! The music and pictures help me to become centered. This brings Peace to my Mind, Opens my Heart and lets my Spirit fly. Thank you so much for uploading this video for all of us to enjoy. We are all one.

  • I like it too.

  • Thank you. Ill be uploading another one of Joanne Shenandoah this weekend.

Since I'm native descendant, not American, I always felt admiration and regrets about the destiny off some native cultures.

I love Joannae Shenandoah and Lawrence has an awesome voice, not to mention the awesome looks like most Native Americans have. Despite their tragic fate they managed to save much of their culture and made sure the names of their Great Leaders will never be forgotten.

  • Nice, Deer travels through our land in Arizona and it is a safehaven for them.

  • Dear Chili is sounding really good right now. LOL!!
