  • Any moment in WCW history (including this one) is better than the crap thats called the WWE PG era.

  • Good god, how can anyone love WCW when shit like this match happens? The WWF had younger stars that was being pushed into the main events yet WCW was always the same old shit. WCW continued to rehash the NWO storyline, Hogan and Nash are old and still compete in the main events, and the WCW younger stars that have talents already left for the WWF because of the mismanagement in WCW creative team. The younger stars that still remains in WCW don't have the talent as the WWF does. WCW was a joke.

  • This was the BEGINNING OF THE END for wCw!

  • But couldn't WCW gotten someone with a little tougher image to win the belt? Couldn't they have at least gotten Chuck Norris for the role instead?

  • @MrJackbruns28 they couldnt give chuck norris the belt cuz he would be unbeatable.

  • Way to go, Vinnie Russo. Another "shocker"

  • All the wrestlers in that company at that time should have walked out on WCW and no showed all of the events until Bischoff, Russo, Ferrara and the rest of the idiots were fired on the spot! That is complete disrespect to all those former champions that busted there butts, that gave blood, sweat and tears to make that title meaning something.

  • david arquette and miz winning world titles are lowest points in wrestling history.

  • When the spoiler for this finish went up, it was the first time anything on the Internet ever made me curse out loud.

  • Also, when wrestling fans read a leaked (and 100% accurate) early plot summary of Ready To Rumble, we thought somebody was pulling a lame practical joke on us. It was a very weird time to try and love WCW.

  • Thats something WWE PG Era would do

  • WCW Was never ruined. This is what we all wanted in ready to rumble.

  • i love the movie ready to rumble, but this was the worst thing i ever saw in wcw history

  • Ratings were pretty fair for wcw until this happened then after that wcw had like 1.23 ratings. If you remembered 4/10/00 of nitro had a 3.74 rating (something around here) almost close to a 4 point rating. But still was no match for raw's 6.3 rating.

  • Look at the face of Jeff jarrett like wow what a stupid move.

  • This wasn't the end of anything. The "fingerpoke of doom" was the real decline of the company. When he was told that he was booked to win, Arquette didn't even really want anything to do with it to begin with but was talked into it. This is a drop in the bucket, similar to Vince McMahon defeating Triple H to become the WWF (now WWE) Champion.

I actually happened to like this moment, because it raised the unpredictability bar way up high. The "anything can happen" mentality is all but gone now.

  • @Miakisaki you can also put all the world title changes, because beween 1999 and 2000 the wcw world title changed hands 31 times, i could not even keep track who was champion because i stopped watching wcw in april of 2000.

  • @Miakisaki THANK YOU! Couldn't agree more.

  • "what are we gonna do with david arquette as our champion?!!"

Going out of business for one...and that's pretty much it.

  • 1996 WCW: EPIC

    2000 WCW: LMFAO

  • that damn russo......

  • The WCW Championship became worthless after the fingerpoke of doom, with a C-list actor as champion may as well thrown it in the trash

  • this guy winning the title was a big joke, and then we alll wonder why wcw fell too wwe, and wwe is doing the same thing with celeberty hosts like the muppets

  • @ducksinger Though at least Vince McMahon didn't put the WWE title on Kermit the Frog. Can you imagine that?

  • @angelus4282 oh man that would be the death of wwe

  • This was a slap in the face to all the wrestlers who ever wanted to hold that World Heavyweight Championship belt.

  • **correction to my last comment-meant to say "people who know nothing about wrestling" thank you***

  • this was the end of not only WCW-but wrestling period, because this led to Vince buying WCW and ruining wrestling without any major competion. This is a prime example of why people who nothing about wrestling shouldn't be allowed to run major storylines!

  • i quit watching WCW once this happened.

  • As of this moment...WCW was dead.

  • Lowest point EVER in WCW history.

  • Think your shift key is broken. It's WCW, not wCw. Don't let that retarded WWF Invasion angle erase the memory of WCW, even if it had bad moments like this one.

  • @C0NTR4l34ND I know that buddy I just put it like that.

  • Why are people still bitching about Cena being Champion when he isn't right now? And also, while I do think this (and Russo winning the title) were the worst things to happen here, to Arquette's credit, he did try to push to not win the title because he was a lifelong fan and he knew that people would hate this.

  • wow....the belt needed replacing not the champion

  • arquette as a champion > cena as a champion

  • this is why i prefered WWF

  • at least he donated all the money he earned in WCW to the families of Owen Hart Brian Pillman and Droz

  • Still better than having Cena has Champion again.

  • this was around when Ready to Rumble came out...

  • How exactly is this a terrible idea, it was a crazy wtf just happened moment. Something that wrestling needs to keep it unpredictable. But then again I forgot the big bad internet tough guys aka smarks just jerk themselves off over Chikara and ROH which is atrocious and bum anything WWF did, even though the Attitude era which was just a fad, was beyond a joke with what they did.

  • yup the lucadores the cruser weight champions like Jerico and malinko all the heavy weight champions that not only never held the belt but also never even got a shot at it must have loved watching this.

  • Death cry of WCW. R.I.P

  • And the belt started to fall apart right as it happened.

  • It wasn't a completely bad idea, just very poorly executed (like a lot of what Russo comes up with). Arquette is a fan of wrestling and hated the idea that a non-wrestler would become champion (he was under contract, though, and had to do what Russo told him). It didn't do anything for the championship or WCW, except maybe for a short-lived ratings spike.

  • No single moment has destroyed WCW. It was not a good idea, but there were worse things as well. The continuation of average, bad and even worse moments over years killed WCW.

  • lol sad thing is this crap is still better than tna

  • @liljc44life I been stopped watching "TnA"

  • @wcwretro2 TNA= WORST WRESTLING COMPANY EVER!

  • @wcwretro2

    @liljc44life

    Haters, tna the shit

there arena reminds me of the original ecw arena

    with much needed upgrades

Example being, ramp, titantron, real annouce table, etc.

  • @93100rc Im not hating, Im just keeping it real, Well if you like what Tna is doing good for you and I hope you enjoy it.

  • nwo is what killed wcw though it was the ratings getter it is also the dath beacuse after awhile they didnt know what to do with them and refuse to push younger guys like jericho, gurrerro, beniot yes i siad his name mystero guys that went on to the wwf/e and went on to bigger things

  • David Arquette should be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

  • I facepalmed through my own hand, im not sure how

  • This was like the final nail in WCW's coffin.

  • I liked this storyline. It was a good underdog storyline to me. I didn't think it tarnish the belt either. I thought it added to the unpredictability of the title can change hands any where and any time kinda thing. Idk just me I guess lol.

  • @TheSosumi1 thank you finally someone within the intrnet community aggres with me

  • 0:45 The most patetic moment in wrestling history

  • Yeah I agree this is the worst moment in WCW history but I heard he gave all his earnings from WCW to the families of Owen Hart, Brian Pillman, and Droz...gotta respect him for that

  • One of? How bout THE ABSOLUTE WORST.

  • This is the worst moment in wrestling history and the worst storyline as well. IT was crap lie this that killed WCW

  • This the moment when the Dr told WCW it has inoperable cancer and has less than a year to live.

  • I wonder if anyone remembers Andy Kaufman, his obsession with wrestling back in the days with Lawler and all of the antics that generated from that? If not and you think this is a travesty to all of professional wrestling, then clearly you don't get the references or the joke being displayed here.

  • Mr. Russo at his finest...I'm convinced Vince sent him in to destroy WCW from the inside.

  • So let me get this straight.....out of ALL the people in wCw in the day....you give David Arquette the world title instead of Roddy piper,Mr.perfect,or goldberg a second time.....wow wCw.....wow

  • Comment removed

  • so every moron who thinks this is stupid booking.

you realize how much publicity this brought to wrestling?!?! and thats what matters. thats what wrestling needed, and still does

  • @UnifiedaxxS

Yeah, it sure worked wonders for WCW....

  • @UnifiedaxxS Vince Russo.. is that you?

  • @Horrorbuff2 of course!

  • WCW 2000 + Russo = FAIL! lol

  • he did that spear in ready to rumble lol

  • His spear was actually pretty cool.

  • @Horrorbuff2 Man to tell you the truth pulling off that good spear I would have given the belt to him too lol

  • Can't imagine why WCW tanked....

  • Anyone who thinks this is the worst thing David Arquette did to wrestling never watched Ready to Rumble

  • @SolidGoldCEO awww it wasnt that bad lol

  • @SolidGoldCEO i love that movie.

  • @SolidGoldCEO Anybody who thought this was the worst thing that ever happened to wrestling never saw Russo as World Champion.

  • *Cornette face*

  • and you wonder why wcw lost 80 million in 2000 and went out of business..............

  • I'd rather Arquette as World Champion than Russo, cause Arquette is a wrestling fan and has respect for it. I heard he thought it was as retard idea

  • @IDSFTheSecond You are completely right. Ric Flair said in his book Arquette even said to Russo..( I am paraphrasing here) "Won't me winning the belt kinda turn the championship into a joke?(or tarnish the belts legacy something to that effect)" Russo told him not to worry it is just a prop. Flair said he noticed the irony of someone who wasn't even in the business having more respect for the belt then the guy running (or is that ruining? LOL) the company.

  • nice spear, lol.

  • I mean, with Drew Carey in it I wouldnt be suprise if David Arquette goes in the Hall of Fame.

  • The SHAME of it all LOL

Then again, coulda been worse.......they could had Jon Hader aka Napoleon Dynamite as world champion

  • And now Jeff, Eric, and Vince are taking TNA straight to hell, along with Hulkster. I hate these boners.

  • Arquette should totally come out with strong style, start using Burning Hammers and Phoenix Splashes.

  • Thank god I was too young to remember this for myself.

And now im slashing my wrist for knowing it happened actually.

  • @denvermaxley he did

  • The day wrestling died

  • Can't believe all these jackasses still run TNA.

If TNA goes out of bussiness (which they problably will), i will stop watching wrestling.

  • lol i remeber vince russo winning the championshiph that was awesome

  • Imma stop watchin Wrestling if WWE or TNA makes another actor as a World Champion

  • This was a tragedy to WCW and wrestling. Here's the official end to Pro wresting in WCW.

WWe entertainment starts from this point, and we're now faced with this kind of garbage now. Two thumbs down for the end of pro wrestling in all major promotions from this day

  • why is everyone critizing this (don't tell me, it's rhetorical)

    this was great :D

  • the day wcw died

  • If only Mickey Jay counted DDP's shoulders to the mat, the wrestling world would prolly be much better off than it is now; but there still was no stopping the titanic of the wrestling world from going under..

  • I loved this..it was a hilarious angle

  • Man, these were the days. Wrestling sucks these days. They just don't know how to write story lines any more. David Arquette was 100% pure BADASS. When they made him, they broke the mold. Give me David Arquette over The Miz or Dolph Ziggler any day! Thumbs up if you agree.

  • @GlorifiedTruth You better be trolling.

  • @GlorifiedTruth Are you having a laugh?

  • the manliest theme music in wrestling history...

  • who was the chick in the referee outfit

  • @jackoblades74 That was Kimberly, DDP's ex wife, during this match they were angling that she was getting wit Bischoff and that's why she was the guest ref.

  • The fact that the World Title changed hands in a tag team match alone was a disgrace, let alone a non-wrestler/actor like David Arquette winning it.Then again,we all came to expect the likes of this while Vince Russo was writing for WCW.With that said,he wasn't the only reason WCW no longer exists today.

  • THIS WAS A DISGRACE TOO THE WORLD TITLE

  • @TopGunna88 yeah you can tell the fans in attendance in their right minds were pissed, they just saw an actor, non-wrestler win the world title. If that was me in attendancce i would have been super pissed and be like "fuck you russo".

  • Tony Schiavone's commentary is what made this so funny to me! David Arquette won the world title!

  • i will never understand why tna decided to take the fastest growing company probably ever, and reboot it with the people that thought this was a good idea

  • wait a tic

Jeff jerret and David arquette both got the cover.

  • This was one of the better matches I've seen in a while.

  • No one should complain about the Miz, at least he had some matches, not good ones, and the Miz is terrible...but this is much worse....it will always be considered the worst moment ever in wrestling history.

  • why the fuck did his happen

  • TNA's last step

  • u know i really dont see this as a low moment. i see as a holly shit did that just happn

  • lol @ The Music

  • "what does this mean for the future of wcw?"

go straight down to the toilet

  • @devlin0497 It's almost as if Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan knew then WCW would cease to exist sooner rather than later.I find it hard to believe that a long time wrestling announcer like Tony Schiavone would suggest the idea of David Arquette winnig the WCW Title,by the way.Love him or hate him,Tony does respect the business more than that.

  • One year later, the company went out of business. And Vince Russo is still clueless as to why wrestling fans loathe him.

  • and u wonder why miz won the belt

  • that belt was fucking falling apart lol

  • and to think Roddy Piper never held the World title. Hmmmmm.

  • This is the time when the WCW champion lost it's value.

  • @AntonioDDiablo no way the wcw title was already devalued way before aurquette was champion, look it up in 1999 the wcw title changed hands 12 times and in the year 2000 in changed hans 19 times.

  • @DrSanto91 I agree, It did devalued before Arquette but after he won the title it took WCW a damn while to gain the value of that champion

  • @AntonioDDiablo well you have a point there, but they did not have enough time cause they went out of business a year later.

  • i mean, not only do you make david arquette your world champion... but you do it on fucking thunder? WHAT????

  • @auxiliarypatch Honestly, if a shitty WCW moment was due to happen it would have happened on Thunder.

  • Well, there's people cheering but it's still disgraceful.

  • should have been booker T! for the 6th time!!!!!!!

  • "The greatest night in the history of our sport"

  • "What does this mean for WCW ?"

Answer : Your company goes out of business in 1 calender year

  • That's why wcw went out of business

  • @HMCM09 No, wcw went out of business because they lost their television slot. If you have tv, you have a business, how do I know this? because Tna is still on the air. There's ton's of shit on tv that probably gets a 0.4 but it still on the air.

Wcw could never had competed with wwf during 2000/2001 but still could have been a succeseful business. Sure, there were errors than not having a tv slot but still.

  • Tony: "What are we gonna do... with David Arquette as our champion?"

Cartman: "Screw you guys, I'm going home"

  • they could have gave it to jarrett

  • russo is a fucking idiot instead of giving it to someone who deserves it like Sting or DDP he says fuck u guys we have David Arquette... Cornette say "Fuck this company"

  • No wonder why WCW went down the pan!

  • The only reason I was happy that he won the strap is because Jeff Jarrett lost the title. It still was a terrible idea. And if Schiavone was the one who came up with the idea, I will hurt him.

  • wtf

  • OMG this is horrible.

  • This was the worst idea of pro wrestling next to vince hiring zack gowen

  • 4 days later The Rock won the WWF Title from Triple H, what a competition ^^

  • some of you people are clueless comparing this to the miz being champ. miz is atleast was in wwe for years before he won the belt, miz was already an active wrestler also while david wasnt either of those things. i dont like miz either but i atleast can see the difference between the 2.

  • haha what a douche

  • Imagine if J.R. was calling this match lol....... "ARQUETTE! ARQUETTE! ARQUETTE! ARQUETTE!"

  • who the hell thought this was a great idea?

  • @PeterSmeter Russo said in an interview they had a meeting the day before about what to do (Arquette was involved at that point), and broke the meeting deciding DDP should win the belt. Russo wanted something unique, but never came up with anything. Supposedly after it, Schiavone approached Russo making Arquette the champ. Russo called everyone back, brought it up, and nobody objected. In fact, when Arquette heard, he tried to stop it. He'd been a fan for life and knew it would suck.

  • @PeterSmeter Keep in mind Russo said all of that. Whether or not that's completely true is anyone's guess.

  • this is like a guest host winning the wwe title :/

  • And they actually had the audacity to exit through the crowd. As if anyone would happy to receive them at that point.

  • god to think goldberg was once the wCw champ...fuck vince russo ! he spitted on the gold heavywieght belt!

  • When he won the title it was like wrestling as I knew it died.

I hope hell is got a place ready for Vinny Mac and Vince Russo

  • @gamehound83 what has vkm got to do with aquette winning the title?

  • @FreshMooCow I forgot to erase Vinny Mac

  • The most fail thing ever in wrestling today.

  • Worst moment in the history of pro wrestling, until the day Miz won, David Arquette is a hasbeen, Miz never was.

  • @AdamBomb669 More like David Arquette is a never was.The Miz is not the greatest wrestler ever to step through the ropes, but he's still active and has oodles of charisma.Heck,he could act better than Arquette too if given the chance,I'll bet.

  • Randy Orton just added another Legend to his Legend Killed list, and that is David Arquette, the greatest World Heavyweight Champion ever.

  • this is awesome

  • His ass got put threw a table courtesy of The Viper!!!

  • David is on raw right now

  • @kingmula2 lol that made me look this up! wwe didnt learn from wcw lol

  • And NEW WCW world heavyweight champion - a Dead Puppy!

  • I read that Russo And Bischoff are thinking about having justin Bieber beat JWOWW for the TNA world title in the next ppv.

  • The Lowest moment in wcw ... the guy wasn't even close to being an athlete and won over Bischoff who didn't belong in the ring at all.

  • Tony: "What are we gonna do... with David Arquette as our champion?"

Me: "...go out of business, and probably straight to hell."

  • @josephD32 - and 11 months later that's exactly what happened lol.

  • LMAO! Bobby Heenan, "Never in in my life has Bobby "The Brain" Heenan been speechless. I don't know what the hell to say!" Classic freaking Heenan right there...

  • @WWEfanAndrew Then again, who wasn't speechless at this disgraceful moment in professional wrestling?

  • At the 1:10 mark when DDP realizes "Did Russo really just book that" and grabs his stomach he's laughing so hard is classc!
