  • Thank God for option 2!

I wouldn't like playing with torches.

  • What's the best way to paint onto plastic beads? I bought a load second hand from a charity shop.

  • @tardiskeeper6 The same way you see here is a good way, or put them in a drill and spin them as you paint. It will make perfect circles.

  • @animateclay They already have holes in them and I don't have a drill. Is there a method that doesn't require parts of a workshop? Thanks

  • @tardiskeeper6 Well, as you see in the video I did it by hand which works nicely. But it takes time.

  • WTF?! You made them out of clay!!!!

That's super rare, even more than redstone!!!

  • @chrisredfiud thanks for the laugh.

  • @chrisredfiud MINECRAFT!!!

  • @chrisredfiud yeah u play minecraft?? looks like it.

  • WTF?! You made them out of clay!!!!

That's super rare, even more than diamond!

  • Ingenious!

  • SHOOP DA WHOOP LOL. This looks like some wonderful advice for animaters

  • its easier to use white airsoft gun b-b's and sharpie on dots!

  • cant you use beads from an dollar store bracelet

  • cool

  • youre Mr.Clay Animation

    xD

  • i love the clay hatter at the beginin of the vids

  • This is a fantastic tutoral! Please check out my channel if you have the time.

  • hey marc i have a quick question dose these eyeballs work with foam latex puppets

  • Yeah, it will work with latex also.

  • thanks

  • I'm a "lego stop-motion" maker, for new scenes of my first movie, I'll need to use some "clay" too.... that's my question:

Can I use the play-doh or is better to get some "harder" clay?

  • well, its your decision but kids clays tend to loose their shape or distort under their own weight, so i would suggest something like newplast, as once its warm its just a malleable, but when its cold its really quite stiff, hope that helps! :)

  • yes new plast is the best idea

  • wuts delrin?

  • ok thank you but

the shirt is ok when i bend it the armature doesnt pop off but th pants is the trouble

    one question

how do i join the shirt with the jeans without it getting dirty because if i dont join it theres like a 1 centimeter gap between the shirt and the jeans so what do i do?

  • i have a big problem marc the problem is that i made my puppets shirt out of clay but today i was trying to make the the jeans and it was ok but when i bend the legs the armature would like pop out and how do i like join the shirt with the pants without the coloors mixing?

  • Hey brotherly, try melting some clay to the armature first. Carefully melt the end of a small snake of junk clay over your stove "if your young get your parents help ok?", or melt some old clay in a double boiler. Then dip your armature in it so the wax in it sticks to the wire. That will help it from popping out. As for colors mixing, always wash your hands and work with only one color at a time if possible.

  • how do i make the eyes blink?

  • Comment removed

  • why not just put 2 pieces of clay on top of each other? you know like a black bit and a white bit

  • You could do that, but the black clay would make the white clay dirty. Also whatever color clay you use for blinking would rub off on the eyes too - and might even smoosh them in the process. That's why white beads or the plastic eyes you see in the video work a lot better.

  • Yeah, true :)

    Have a good day

  • @nlcshk This is so the eyes are identical

  • Jesus, 6 minutes of instruction how to make an eyeball for clay puppet?! You forgot to write "And remember - you must breath"

  • I just use white beeds that already have a hole then put perminant ink on them its quiker plus looks just as good

  • Only understood why you made the little holes at the end, thats clever!

  • or just uy google eyes

  • Buy* lol :D

  • Song?

  • OK that was pretty good. I always wondered how hey did that. I always thought they switch out the whole head with different expressions.

  • Me too

  • im doing after school claymation this helps alot :D

  • Great tutorial.

You can also use beads and paint the eyes on them which if you don't have the drill cant be a life saver.

    Thanks for sharing..

  • True, but with the small holes you can use a pin etc to move the eyes easier than if they were painted on, although if you don't need to move the eyes then painting them on is a good idea yes.

  • but the effect and the way you move it is different

  • theres a much easier way of soing that, its called a pen, nice tutorial tho

  • Great tutorial, I just like how you really spend your time to make things precise. Colours are nice too

  • Great video, thanks :)

What's the name and the artist of the song?

  • Dispatch - The General

  • Thanks a lot :)

  • what is that big beard guy made of ? witch clay?

  • too, long

  • im using a bit bigger eye(pinball size) and was wondering if there is an easy way to lubricate it without messing up my clay(claytoon brand) It doesnt rotate without sticking. Thx

  • Oh your using that for the new puppet with the big eye ball? I would use a tiny clay iris instead of trying to move the entire eye. That will give you better results. But if you do do that, try some vaselene.

  • thanx marc....im actually gonna try the clay iris...i discovered that cheap large bead cosmetic jewelry is just white balls already drilled covered in a paper/paint that peels right off

  • how many pictures wud u use per frame?

  • do you have a web site were you sell them?? if not you should have one.

  • wat kind of clay do u use

  • you are so good

  • where do you get delrin balls

  • why not just paint a little black dot on the bbs and be done with it?

  • because how are you going to move the eyes?

  • true

  • omg that is so the oppeset of how i thought u made them:|

  • well whoever played that song just raped sublime's work

    >:V

  • That is Sublime.

  • no it isn't, they're not shitty.

  • Ah, sorry I used sublime in another video and got them confused. These guys are called Dispatch.

  • They are awesome, but I dont see why you go so indepth to create that....

  • gracias amigo!!!!

  • Great tutorial ! thanks for help

  • tambien los puedes retocar fotograma a fotograma en el photoshop!

    ...o en el paint jeje

  • As always, your tutorials are great.

    Thanks for posting them.

  • whats the tool called to move around the eye in your puppet?

  • Those are just some drafting dividers

  • As usual, great tutorial, I really like your techniques. However, this one seems like it could be a lot quicker and easier. Why delrin balls instead of just clay, styrofoam, or hollow plastic? I would think those would be easier to work with.

  • well there are several reasons why the materials such as Styrofoam, hollow plastic and just clay wont work as well as the plastic delrin ball bering. The Styrofoam can't be moved from its position to give the effect of the eye moving in the movie. And if you add clay onto it to symbolize the pupil and etc. the clay will permanently mark on the Styrofoam, thus making it turn black later on in your movie

  • Also, if using hollow plastic and u create the hole, it will brake because it wont be thick enough to support itself. And finally clay, it will soon enough smug into the skin. Don't get me wrong, you can use those things, but if I wanted to create a good looking movie, I would definetly go with the delrin ball berings.

  • wats the hole in the eyes for

  • The hole allows you to insert a pin in it or a pointy tool. Then when you put the eyes in a clay puppets head you can animate it that way.

  • thats awesome! well done!!! you should sell your eyeballs! lol

  • he does, on his site...

  • great! i would so use this. Accept I don't have a Drill. Darn.

I don't get what the 'flat edge' is for.

  • Good lookin' out Marc. It's goes well with your other post on making the wire armature. Now if I only had some talent. Dang.

  • Woah.. That was awesome , i didnt know you could animate the eyes like that

  • wow... very sofisticate tools... i don't have that...

  • Great tutorial Mark. Thank you for sharing another great tip.

  • thx :D somethine cool I can do it on the side hehe

  • coooooool

  • Hi zx, if I had money for it, I'd work on it non-stop. So its going to take a while, I can't say.

  • how long do you think the first episode of zombie pirates will take to be completed?

  • Oh man those eyes are awsome.

  • nice job marc, i needed to know that as well :D

  • Marc, nicely done.

  • yay first comment that was cool i needed to no that lol
