im sorry, i dont mean to sound rude but the back looks very messy. if im using 2 strands i start off by folding one thread in half, start my first half stitch and put the needle through the loop at the back, this anchors the thread and leaves the back looking very neat. also i never do it stitch by stitch, always the diagonal halves and back over them because its much quicker.
@lavinleitrim oh and like buttonchain said about finishing, you should start the thread the same way, (i do this if its 2 strands of different colour or only 1 strand). usually i use as much of each thread as i can, the tail at the end is the length of the needle and to finish i tuck it under my finished stitches at the back. also i slide the needle down the thread to the material then separate them and untwist then bring the needle back up to the middle, this keeps the front looking even too.
@lavinleitrim I'm personally not overly concerned about the back and haven't worked on it in a very long time but thank you for the advice. I just prefer to cross stitch one "x" at a time...:)

you should have finished off your thread by threading it in the back of your last stitches this would stop it from coming undone

@buttonchain I actually do that now :)...I only learned about that technique after this video was posted! :)
