  • I was in CBGB's...ONCE, & wound up getting kicked out. When I was a kid in the late 70s my uncle used to go down there to see them all the time, an ok place but in a very lousy part of town, the only thing that helped that place was it had a nice view straight down Bleeker Street so it'd attract all the hippie dippie beatnicks mixed in w/ the punks & it helped them go mainstream

  • LO MAXIMO

  • hangover + Ramones = WIN

  • It's like seeing The Beatles atThe Cavern.

  • Impressive, how many drummers today can lay down drum trax like this without cocking it up, kudo's, Is harder than it seems and that is PUNK at its earliest and finest. ALL of what I have seen experienced. lived and inspired in my own playing. BRILLIANT.

  • @cjtal2005 Watching Tommy and Marky drum makes my arms hurt

  • Impressive, how many drummers today can lay down drum trax like this without cocking it up, kudo's, Is harder than it seems and that is PUNK at its earliest and finest.

  • Hi, I'm I found your video today. I was curious you sharing images of your ticket stubs and the stories behind them into what we are doing. I'm really interested in your CBGB stubs or bracelets and stories for a project I'm starting. We just need pics - not the actual bracelet

Would you take a look at Stubstory and see if you'd care to share some stories? I'm looking forward to hearing back from you.

  • I WAS BORN TO FUCKIN LATE!!!!

  • I was at CBGB's or Max' Kansas City every week.

I saw so many bands....what a travesty that CBGB's never got landmark status after the venue changed the face of rock around the world.

This clip is the ture Raw Ramones energy that they used on stage at EVERY show. After attending more than 19 shows....

  • Damn, I wish I lived in 1970's New York!

  • I was there, I think! I grew up in Connecticut & used to lie to my parents, sneak to NYC, & have fun - at 15 years old. The Bowery was a mess of winos, but it was safer then than now.

I've been in San Francisco California for 30 years.

    Fond memories of CBGB.

  • @bearguySF Wow! I wish I would've been there! Sounds like you had a great life back then.

  • this was 1974 thats a fact

  • 1...2...3...4...nuff said!

  • in some alternate universe i wish nirvana could go on the next set after them .

  • one two three four !

  • 77? the first record, which this song is on, came out in 76. this show is from 74

  • Wow I was 4.

  • I was -2

  • Tom Verlaine of Television started CBGB's scene by walking into the then alchi-bum bar with a ragtime piano player friend. They were trying to find out where musicians could play.Tom said to owner Hilly Kristal 'Why don't you play rock here?" Hilly said Television could try out. This was like spring '74. In Tom's words, "a month later, every band in the world had desecnded on the place"! NYC bars all had cover bands. CBGB was a departure 'cause new bands could play their own music.

    Rest's history!

  • but it was nothing before TV and blondie the ramones made it sexy

  • Comment removed

  • Dumbass.

  • Johnny is very sexy.

    Johnny é muito gostoso *-*

  • You think, he was sexy...

  • New York in mentally more near Europe than US. Ramones have allways been loved here in Europe and specially here in Punk loving Finland!

  • fuckin moneyhogs tore out the heart of punk and shut them down.

  • 3 or 4 years ago

  • why I was not borned in NY in the 60's damn it... it is my imposible dream to see the ramones live at the CBGB's.. =(

btw, is the CBGB's still open or what happened to it? Im sorry if Im being too ignorant =/

  • They moved CB's to vegas, its basically gone.

  • Closed

  • why was I not your brother in NY in the 60's man?!?! i totally agree. CBGB kicks ass. the place got closed down though and is now a john varvatos boutique.

  • amen to that brother heh

  • @duuude3 i agree with that

  • One of the best examples of GREATNESS!!!!!!

  • Which year is this from?

  • probably 1974, i think this was there first concert

  • i meant there first show

  • Thanks a lot! :)

  • joeys doing jagger for a little there, cool video!

  • holy shit i can't believe i found this video, i just finished writing a research paper about the ramones, and had a quote talking about Dee Dee shouting 1 2 3 4! to start every song then having to start over. Jesus Christ i Love you

  • :)

    eeee Ramones haha

  • joey ramone sounds like hes not even singing much.

    oh well....1 2 - 1 2 3 4!

  • love you for uploading this

  • this is video is a history of rock n' roll!

  • Who cares how bad they sound.

  • The ramones blow me away, one of there first concerts and they're still awesome. long live the ramones.

  • such kids here

  • that is all soo stupid...why is so important who exactly 'invented' punk or if some greeaat band like this was 'completely in that style'?forget about that...it's not the most important thing..they made genial music and lived it..not like 'punk bands' today, most of them are POSERS

  • I agree, new punk sucks, old school stuff like the stooges and patty smith and obviously the ramones were fucking kick ass

  • Well the ramones ruled and so did all the old school punk bands... but there's also some great bands out there right now, obviously you won't find them on mtv, and of course they won't call themselves punk...

BTW, Patty SMith was such a shit.

  • Theres a few alternative bands that are good, but i like this better and he was an ass i just liked his music.

  • 1 2 3 4 RULES !!! :)

  • dee dee was so funny at 1-2-3-4

  • I have this on DVD! Ramones - It's Alive 1974 - 1996, it's a very fuckin' nice DVD man

  • CBGB ftw ;)

  • how chu get this???

  • the ramones invented punk and lead the way for the clash and pistols who dont compare at all

  • ramones didn't invent punk. punk was just an innovation. bands like the stooges, velvet underground, new york dolls, mc5 paved the way

  • but the ramones were the first ones that were punk. sure, they didnt invent it, but they were the first ones to be completely of that style. they then influenced the clash and the pistols to the point where they played the same music.

  • los mas grandes de la historia del rock..anti caretas..si no me confundo...

  • This video is my favorite Ramones video. I love Judy is a Punk off the first album.

  • tommy one of the coolest drumers

  • is dee dee playing a danelectro bass cuz i cant tell

  • If it were not for Iggy Pop whom is the God Father of Punk and The New York Dolls and the clubs like CBGB's and The Mudd Club, punk would not have exsisted!Don't get me wrong I love the Sex Pistols, The Clash, Joy Division etc...But New York is were the roots started!

  • i think the who were the first punk band, even though they werent classified as it. look at some of their early shows.

  • agreed budy..... ramones, new york dolls, the stooges and MC5 are good.... but nothing beats the pistols or the clash !!!!

  • Turk13strike, do you REALLY want me to spell it out for you. I'm a diehard fan of these guys, so why on earth did I fall in love with 'em?!?! I love catchy, bubblegum, sing-song melody. Catchy hooks and a chorus. Bouncy rock and roll. I first heard of these guys at age 6 in 1983 and was scared of them! At age 15 in '91 I bought their first album because my best friend was sooo into The Sex Pistols and Dead Kennedys. From those opening chords to "Blitzkreig Bop" I was hooked!

  • What made The Ramones so good was that they took their minimalist abilities and made something so solid out of it that a well rehearsed "professional" band couldn't replicate The Ramones sound if they tried! It's harder than you think. This film is them VERY EARLY in their carrer, this is from Sept. of 1974!!!! Obviously the band was not quite as together as they would sound in 1976 or 1977. They were VERY TALENTED for the sound THEY created. In my opinion, no one has come close.

  • u must love blink182 or one of those posers bands to say that...

  • sorry...i tried to say this is not punk for me,this is rock n roll dude

  • rock 'n 'n roll il too better than ramones, but they r the best of american's punk

  • What about X, The Minutemen, Mission of Burma, Sonic Youth, Black Flag, Husker Du, Pere Ubu. All great. Tho the Ramones were forst.

  • Isn't that Howard Stern? Less 8 Billion Dollors?

  • Comment removed

  • shut the fuck up

  • ok so in 6th grade i did a powerpoint and a writen paper on punk. so i guess i have some sort of view on this...THIS VID IS AWESOME!

  • and alot of bands today claim to be punk bands but they will never acheive the kind of respect the ramones got because they are posers

  • The Ramones are one of the best bands ever to bad all the original members but 1 are dead or id see them in concert right away

  • Its annoying, people associate punk nowadays with the sex pistols, the ramones started it all. Even in my music book it doesn't mention them as original punk bands, "american punk bands include Blondie" grrr

  • The ramones were the best. They started the biggest revolution in music. But the ramones must be turning in there graves when they hear bands like paramore and green day call themselves punk bands. Punk music will never be the same again.

  • I don't think Green Day would call themselves anything. The media likes to slap a label on everything though, as do most people. By the way, Green Day was punk as shit and damn good in like 1992.

  • Comment removed

  • Guys, Ramones arent indie or other shit they are original punk rock it was other bands who made punk rock look like another genre such as blink182, they are the new generation.. And sex pistols and clash are as well original punk rock... (though clash used other genres as well)

  • what`s with "Suicide" ???

  • no comment, just love....CBGB and Hilly Kristal rip....

  • johnny taá estranho IOASDJDOIADSJDSADOSI :P

  • look at johnny in 00:48

    he is so cool

    R.I.P Joey Dee Dee Johnny

  • Sex Pistols were good as well but the Ramones started it all, so fuck that guy.

  • Exactly, so forget that poser.

What's Johnny doing on the right and DeeDee on the left???? You practically never see that.

    Fucking Classic!!

  • or Television, The Velvet Underground, Iggy, or The Doors really depending on your point of view

  • oi! ramones are more punkrock than the definition.

  • wtf? the ramones are the beginers of the punk movement and the fathers of punk rock

  • I wouldn't call The Ramones 'punk'. Punk is like safetypins and mohawks, just like the Pistols. Anyway there's lots of proof that the Pistols really where inspired by The Ramones. And especially The Clash. the Sex Pistols sounds is only inspired by Rocket To Russia (wich is a RAMONES album). So I don't get it why you should say the pistols are not inspired by the Ramones??

  • Dude, first of all try to look for the meaning of punk, then see some pictures and listen to some music of original punk people, and if u understand all that and have enough time, see a documentary or something like that, and u will see that those punks that u are talking about, fucked the music

  • Dude, i've seen like every documentary about The Ramones, they wouldn't describe themselves as Punk. It was the Ramones who suffered from the pistols by vomiting into the audience and stuff like that. The Ramones is real music, some pistols couldn't even play an instrument..so Fuck You

  • dude, Sex Pistols and The Clash were both inspired by The Ramones. They might hav been better than the Ramones, but d fact is, if it weren't for The Ramones, No Sex Pistols and no The Clash. and btw, THe RAMONES DO ROCK!

  • I wouldnt say pistols are better than ramones cause ramones was first, they had the idea of making a whole new type of music, pistols only came after them... besides if you look at different ramones albums you see each album has a different colour, and i cant say the same if i look at sex pistols albums; plus ramones members didnt drug themselves to death and they werent as crazy as e.g. Johnny Rotten. I like Sex Pistols also and I'd say their music was newer than Ramones' at that time...

  • actually they smoked quite a bit of weed and Dee Dee did a bunch of heroine.

    that's why he died.

  • This is true. But in your opinion, are the Ramones "punk rock"?

  • There was punk before the Ramones. There was The New York Dolls, Iggy and the Stooges, MC5, The Velvet Underground, the Standells the Seeds, the Sonics all the way back to the Kingsmen and Louie Louie

  • How where the Ramones no punk when you said they did in fact create it?

  • you are all idiots the Ramones first played live at CBGB then their management team took them on a tour through the UK ,where from there bands such as the pistols and such were sown from the seeds the Ramones planted, The Ramones arent punk but they did create it.

  • The English did not invent punk. Malcolm Maclaren took a long trip to New York and was inspired by bands like the Ramones to start a scene in England, thus came the Sex Pistols who "started it all."

  • thats nice footage

  • strat... read the comment below yours. damn brits stealing the US muzik >:o naggers

  • there ok but nothing compared to pistols....!

  • ur RETARDED!!!! the pistols wer inspired by the ramones!! stupid asshole

  • NO! The Ramones invented Punk!!! The Brits just got the idea from us!!!

  • pistols....forever!!

  • yeh.....wild at heartx

  • its so funny how irate you get over fuck all.....!

  • why argue with them clueless...twats...?!

  • ramones are awesome. they're real punk. sex pistols and the clash are post-punk.

  • you have to be fucking kidding me The sex pistols and clash were total punk the ramones were good but compared to the sex pistols and the clash there softcore

  • eh you got it....thats true

  • ur a mental case. sex pistols and the clash ARE awesome, but they werent playing 8 songs in 15 minutes. the ramones were. yeah the pistols n the clash had the looks down, but their music is no where near as punk as the ramones.

  • your a mental case for taking you tube so serious !

  • hmm...good point....SCREW ALL OF YOU....because if you were good fans, you'd be buying the cd instead of cheaping out with youtube.

  • screw us..and be damned....lol!

  • go suck one.

  • get a life...MORON!

  • ur a mental case. the sex pistols and the clash are awesome, but they weren't playing 8 songs in 15 minutes. the ramones were. the sex pistols n the clash had the looks down, but their music is no where near as punk as the clash.

  • whatever. the pistols are great, i respect them. but they were inspired by the ramones. so were the clash. the clash are good. but you call rock the casbah harder than teenage lobotomy or blitzkreig bop? i dont think so

  • wtvr. i'm done talking.

  • PISTOLS MY ARSE! The Ramones and The Pistols were from two separate countries, each with different reasons for what they were creating. With The Ramones, it was back to basics rock and roll. With The Pistols, it was that with some politics lached onto it. We give The Pistols far too much credit thinking they actually gave a crap about anything! They liked causing a scene and that's about it! The Ramones were far more passionate about THEIR cause.

  • why dont you suck my dick faggot?

  • why dont you get a fucking life retard!!

  • yeh thats about the size of it....lol!

  • archtop57 bubble gum pop?

you call the ramones bubble gum pop?

you have no fucking brains dude...
