I was in CBGB's...ONCE, & wound up getting kicked out. When I was a kid in the late 70s my uncle used to go down there to see them all the time, an ok place but in a very lousy part of town, the only thing that helped that place was it had a nice view straight down Bleeker Street so it'd attract all the hippie dippie beatnicks mixed in w/ the punks & it helped them go mainstream
I mean...Thanks for that...I was in CBGB's once... place was decked out in red and black "Save CBGCs" posters. They were playing jazz and selling merch in the basement... and here I thought they strayed from thier roots.
Impressive, how many drummers today can lay down drum trax like this without cocking it up, kudo's, Is harder than it seems and that is PUNK at its earliest and finest. ALL of what I have seen experienced. lived and inspired in my own playing. BRILLIANT.

Hi, I'm I found your video today. I was curious you sharing images of your ticket stubs and the stories behind them into what we are doing. I'm really interested in your CBGB stubs or bracelets and stories for a project I'm starting. We just need pics - not the actual bracelet
Would you take a look at Stubstory and see if you'd care to share some stories? I'm looking forward to hearing back from you.
I was there, I think! I grew up in Connecticut & used to lie to my parents, sneak to NYC, & have fun - at 15 years old. The Bowery was a mess of winos, but it was safer then than now.
I've been in San Francisco California for 30 years.
Tom Verlaine of Television started CBGB's scene by walking into the then alchi-bum bar with a ragtime piano player friend. They were trying to find out where musicians could play.Tom said to owner Hilly Kristal 'Why don't you play rock here?" Hilly said Television could try out. This was like spring '74. In Tom's words, "a month later, every band in the world had desecnded on the place"! NYC bars all had cover bands. CBGB was a departure 'cause new bands could play their own music.
why was I not your brother in NY in the 60's man?!?! i totally agree. CBGB kicks ass. the place got closed down though and is now a john varvatos boutique.
If anyone passes the John Varv at 315 bowery, tell them to fuck off and reopen CBGB OMFUG!!!!!!!!!
holy shit i can't believe i found this video, i just finished writing a research paper about the ramones, and had a quote talking about Dee Dee shouting 1 2 3 4! to start every song then having to start over. Jesus Christ i Love you
that is all soo stupid...why is so important who exactly 'invented' punk or if some greeaat band like this was 'completely in that style'?forget about that...it's not the most important thing..they made genial music and lived it..not like 'punk bands' today, most of them are POSERS
Well the ramones ruled and so did all the old school punk bands... but there's also some great bands out there right now, obviously you won't find them on mtv, and of course they won't call themselves punk...
but the ramones were the first ones that were punk. sure, they didnt invent it, but they were the first ones to be completely of that style. they then influenced the clash and the pistols to the point where they played the same music.

man why is everyone so fucking in love with the ramones? compared to most bands they had zero talent and very poor vocals. it doesn't make sense to me.
Turk13strike, do you REALLY want me to spell it out for you. I'm a diehard fan of these guys, so why on earth did I fall in love with 'em?!?! I love catchy, bubblegum, sing-song melody. Catchy hooks and a chorus. Bouncy rock and roll. I first heard of these guys at age 6 in 1983 and was scared of them! At age 15 in '91 I bought their first album because my best friend was sooo into The Sex Pistols and Dead Kennedys. From those opening chords to "Blitzkreig Bop" I was hooked!
What made The Ramones so good was that they took their minimalist abilities and made something so solid out of it that a well rehearsed "professional" band couldn't replicate The Ramones sound if they tried! It's harder than you think. This film is them VERY EARLY in their carrer, this is from Sept. of 1974!!!! Obviously the band was not quite as together as they would sound in 1976 or 1977. They were VERY TALENTED for the sound THEY created. In my opinion, no one has come close.

Its annoying, people associate punk nowadays with the sex pistols, the ramones started it all. Even in my music book it doesn't mention them as original punk bands, "american punk bands include Blondie" grrr
The ramones were the best. They started the biggest revolution in music. But the ramones must be turning in there graves when they hear bands like paramore and green day call themselves punk bands. Punk music will never be the same again.
I don't think Green Day would call themselves anything. The media likes to slap a label on everything though, as do most people. By the way, Green Day was punk as shit and damn good in like 1992.

PISTOLS INSPIRED BY RAMONES?!!!!!!!!! LOL
dude u are sooooo stupid believe me, pistols are better than ramones, i dont say that, everybody that knows about the punk history knows it, i mean the clash is the punk band for excellence, because of music and lyrics, after them are the pistols, ramones is just crap
I wouldn't call The Ramones 'punk'. Punk is like safetypins and mohawks, just like the Pistols. Anyway there's lots of proof that the Pistols really where inspired by The Ramones. And especially The Clash. the Sex Pistols sounds is only inspired by Rocket To Russia (wich is a RAMONES album). So I don't get it why you should say the pistols are not inspired by the Ramones??
Dude, first of all try to look for the meaning of punk, then see some pictures and listen to some music of original punk people, and if u understand all that and have enough time, see a documentary or something like that, and u will see that those punks that u are talking about, fucked the music
Dude, i've seen like every documentary about The Ramones, they wouldn't describe themselves as Punk. It was the Ramones who suffered from the pistols by vomiting into the audience and stuff like that. The Ramones is real music, some pistols couldn't even play an instrument..so Fuck You
dude, Sex Pistols and The Clash were both inspired by The Ramones. They might hav been better than the Ramones, but d fact is, if it weren't for The Ramones, No Sex Pistols and no The Clash. and btw, THe RAMONES DO ROCK!
I wouldnt say pistols are better than ramones cause ramones was first, they had the idea of making a whole new type of music, pistols only came after them... besides if you look at different ramones albums you see each album has a different colour, and i cant say the same if i look at sex pistols albums; plus ramones members didnt drug themselves to death and they werent as crazy as e.g. Johnny Rotten. I like Sex Pistols also and I'd say their music was newer than Ramones' at that time...
There was punk before the Ramones. There was The New York Dolls, Iggy and the Stooges, MC5, The Velvet Underground, the Standells the Seeds, the Sonics all the way back to the Kingsmen and Louie Louie
you are all idiots the Ramones first played live at CBGB then their management team took them on a tour through the UK ,where from there bands such as the pistols and such were sown from the seeds the Ramones planted, The Ramones arent punk but they did create it.
The English did not invent punk. Malcolm Maclaren took a long trip to New York and was inspired by bands like the Ramones to start a scene in England, thus came the Sex Pistols who "started it all."
you have to be fucking kidding me The sex pistols and clash were total punk the ramones were good but compared to the sex pistols and the clash there softcore
ur a mental case. sex pistols and the clash ARE awesome, but they werent playing 8 songs in 15 minutes. the ramones were. yeah the pistols n the clash had the looks down, but their music is no where near as punk as the ramones.
ur a mental case. the sex pistols and the clash are awesome, but they weren't playing 8 songs in 15 minutes. the ramones were. the sex pistols n the clash had the looks down, but their music is no where near as punk as the clash.
whatever. the pistols are great, i respect them. but they were inspired by the ramones. so were the clash. the clash are good. but you call rock the casbah harder than teenage lobotomy or blitzkreig bop? i dont think so
PISTOLS MY ARSE! The Ramones and The Pistols were from two separate countries, each with different reasons for what they were creating. With The Ramones, it was back to basics rock and roll. With The Pistols, it was that with some politics lached onto it. We give The Pistols far too much credit thinking they actually gave a crap about anything! They liked causing a scene and that's about it! The Ramones were far more passionate about THEIR cause.

I like Sex Pistols also and I'd say their music was newer than Ramones' at that time...

actually they smoked quite a bit of weed and Dee Dee did a bunch of heroine.
that's why he died.

This is true. But in your opinion, are the Ramones "punk rock"?
Lynex87 4 years ago
There was punk before the Ramones. There was The New York Dolls, Iggy and the Stooges, MC5, The Velvet Underground, the Standells the Seeds, the Sonics all the way back to the Kingsmen and Louie Louie

How where the Ramones no punk when you said they did in fact create it?
Lynex87 4 years ago
you are all idiots the Ramones first played live at CBGB then their management team took them on a tour through the UK ,where from there bands such as the pistols and such were sown from the seeds the Ramones planted, The Ramones arent punk but they did create it.

The English did not invent punk. Malcolm Maclaren took a long trip to New York and was inspired by bands like the Ramones to start a scene in England, thus came the Sex Pistols who "started it all."
