absolutely right. Purple works well only with Ian on microphone. Who would have thought, that Blackmore and Lord are replaceable ? and it' s nothing against them, because they where important to that band .-)
@Purplesnake41: I agree with you, BUT, Purple went through a lot of different music genres and I feel that JLT was the best choice of vocalist for Slaves and Masters, if for no other reason than Slaves and Masters was so similar to Rainbows last albums.
I like the Mach 1 and 2 versions, but DP w/o Gillan is as uninteresting as DP w/o Blackmore. And Gillan screwing up the words on this tour? When didn't he screw up the lyrics at a concert? That would be like bitching about Jon Lords keyboard playing live sounds like the background music to a 70's Italian horror film.
The '88 tour was great (I have tapes of almost every date). That's why it was a surprise when Gillan got fired just a few months into '89. Anyway, thanks for posting this performance, which is well up to par.
Very remarkable that you think you have the right to put comments everuwhere which include an opinion, very often negative about Blackmore and Pro Gillan and at the same time deleting or blocking my comments which gave a different view.
You would like to rewrite history probably, like Gillan often tries to do with his LIES.
Gillan vs Blackmore is like Gilmour vs Waters: Deep Purple and Pink Floyd fans are divided into two camps ... each fan has their opinion, and each fan maintains loyalty to one or the other -- never both.
illan was constantly screwing up the lyrics on the 93 tour. Probably to piss off Ritchie! His voice and performance was much better with the new lineup. Personnally I like all the DP singers through the years.
I was at the Reunion,1986 show, outdoors monsters of Rock..mannheim Germany. The Group was tight and sounding good as ever...I was lucky enough to have been close enough to get some decent pics but no vids. Thanks for sharing these.
Quite unique: on this short tour, they played Hush like they re-recorded it for Nobody's Perfect.
JLT only sang the verse as a part of an improvisation in an other song, 1993, as the song to start the encore on some nights, gillan messed the lyrics a lot (!), and sometime in the mid 90s, gillan finaly listened to the Shades Of Deep Purple recording, and they play the complete album version since.
Yes, "firing" Gillan was the worst thing that could happen to the band. When Blackmore was in 100% control, we all saw the outcome....Joe Lynn Turner & 'Slaves & Masters'.... Gillan's lyrics and voice is the soul of the classic Deep Purple.
That was Blackmore's point of view, and I allready know you're one of those biased Blackmore fanatics, that dig 'Slaves & Masters' and 'Stranger In Us All', two of the biggest embaresments in Deep Purple and Rainbow history, so I know it's probably pointless to discuss with you, but according to both Lord, Paice and Gillan, the band on Blackmore's "orders", started writing new stuff without Gillan, not letting him know about it, and even looking for a new vocalist.
BTW, I have nearly every available bootleg recording from the 1987/88 tours, and Gillan never messed up any performances, he had a cold and voice problems a few nights, yes. Someone who was a more unprofessional ass was JLT. Bigger asshole you have too search a long time to find.
@SilverTounge85 RITCHIE WAS IN 100%CONTROL ON EVERY PURPLE ALBUM,LISTEN TO BURN,STORMBRINGER,MATE.SO MUCH BETTER THEN FIREBALL,WDWTWA.BLACKMORE IS DRIVING FORCE OF DEEP PURPLE,AND LORD AND PAICE ARE FANTASTIC TOO.THOSE 3 ARE THE BEST MUISICIANS EVER!!!GILLAN WAS THE AWESOME SINGER IN THE'70,BUT IN LAST 30 YEARS HE SINGS LIKE DONKEY,AND TURNER WAS SO MUCH BETTER THEN GILLAN IN THE'80 AND '90.GILLAN AND MORSE ARE THE WORST THINGS THAT HAPPEN TO THE BAND.LONG LIVE BLACKMORE,LORD AND PAICE!!!
@TheRijir Stop shouting douchebag... Joe Lynn Turner was, is and will always be a big joke. A republican a**hole that is full of himself. Purple still sell out venues, Morse is awesome, Gillan is awesome considering his age. Blackmore wears a wig and plays crappy music with his wife.Your post is gone and out, and you're blocked, buddy. Only Turner would ever bother to play in Serbia...
@SilverTounge85 purple mark 7 played in Serbia several times,so as blackmore's night, whitesnake, glenn hughes.turner never played in serbia.i can tell that you don't know anything about music,or my country.and, don't you ever speak again about SERBIA,because i didn't say anything about your coutry
Joe lynn turner is a mistake except for the burn

I agree that Slaves is more a cross between DP and Rainbow but the song writing is superior to The Battle Rages LP. I still love them both anyway!!

I cant imagine that this is over 20 years after the release of the song, but yet 23 years ago.... wow

@Magister365 of course. Ian wouldn't fit for ''Slaves & Masters''. Anyway ''Slaves and Masters'' is another Purple classic.
Purplesnake41 1 year ago
have to disagree! I like and respect Gillian but the Slaves and Masters work is excellent in its own right.
Gilllian is great but there is no one comparable to Ritchie period.

@SilverTongue85 Slaves and Masters is regarded by Blackmore as one of the BEST albums Purple ever produced.
Magister365 1 year ago
@Magister365 Maybe, but most of the Purple fans say otherwise. Most of them prefer The Battle Rages On album..Gillan is the best vocalist for Purple.

Gillan got himself fired for constantly being drunk, messing up performances, losing his voice. He became an unprofessional ass.

No, Blackmore, Lord and Paice WERE the soul of Deep Purple. : )
DP now is a dead horse staggering to its pityful grave.
