How ironic! Tibet was free before 1949??? Before 1949 Tibet is under Guo Ming Dang government, a Chinese government. Before Guo Ming Dang, Qing Dynasty, Ming Dynasty, and Yuan Dynasty, Chinese + Man + Mongolian governments. Tell me, when on earth was Tibet a totally free country???? If China is shamed for Olympic, so the US, so the UK!

In old Tibet before 1950, 88 percent of Tibeten people were born as slaves. Slaves didn't belong to themselves, they belong to their slave masters who occupied 5% of Tibeten population at that time. Slaves could be sold,bought,abused at the will of their masters!
I admire Lincoln,the greatest former US president because he abolished the slave system in Southern America. Lincoln is always the hero in my heart.

The protesters did attempt to grab the torch, not trying to ask the wheel chair athlete to hand over the torch.
Some of these China supporters are trying to manipulate this into 'the protesters attacked the wheel chair athlete.' ;)

I agree with the comments that the boycotting is not the solution. Also, peaceful protest does not grant anybody the right to start a riot, just like you cannot kill the representative on the phone when you try to close your account and he/she was not helping at all.

The question is who are the real Tibetian people? All the media already showed prejudice against China, or why didn't they mention that the protesters in Paris actually attacked two Disabled Chinese athletes. All they showed was how many people along the road to protest, but did they show how many Chinese people (most of them are students, the new generation of Chinese) were there to support the relay? How can you trust such media would report justly even if they are allowed in China?

i just wanna add that boycotting the olympics as was suggested by some, would hurt the athletes the most, thefore i think it's not an option. I m huge advocate for freedom, I believe everyone against chinese politics with regards the Tibet should have the right to demonstrate as long as he/she do it in a peaceful manner. Secondly, if china doesnt lie about the whole thing, why is it so afraid of what journalist may find in the Tibet?. It's highly suspicious that they dont allow reporters in (covering their tracks??).

Why didn't you show the video where the DISABLED chinese girl on a wheel chair was attacked by the so called 'free Tibet' protesters?!!! She was carrying the torch on a wheel chair, which was pushed by another disabled Chinese athlete (who is completely blind), and what happened? They were attacked by the protesters, who obviously had all the 'freedom' to do whatever they wanted!!! But attacking someone on a wheel chair does not put a good image on 'Free Tibet' or on anyone...really!

I'll take the otherside. The police has every right to restore order if chaos emerges. Appropriate force is necessary if the situation arises. Yes, China does have a poor record of human rights issues, but so does Turkey. If you think about it, the issue gained notoriety with the collectivism and media propaganda. We know there are many things wrong with the world, but when one is selected out of the many and gains popularity, people will converge. This can apply to many situations.

You can of course criticize. But if you touch difficult areas as democracy, human rights, corruption of actual members of the central gov. etc. there will be concequences. You can go to the street in New York and yell: "Down with Bush". Go to Beijing and yell "Down with Hu Jintao" and see what will happen then. Besides: Why are there so many websides that could not be accessed from China in the past few years? Do not give me the "technical problems" shit here...information control/restriction

They should be ashamed of that. It seems that a lot of western people have a weakness for the "weak" (in this case Tibet). Some people think they should help. But it is too bad that it is just a kind of "blind helping". I think we should keep a healthy distance to both, western and eastern media. olympics in China was political from the beginning because IOC hoped they could use it to motivate (force) China improving human rights situation. Sports is mostly business and politics in modern times

the olympic did help china to improve its human rights and democracy. but democracy isnt something grow overnight. just take a look about the history of todays democratic countries and see how long did they use to gain democracy. but what happened these days is destroying chinese's faith toward democracy. seriously, western people and politicians are playing a very bad role here. and the tragedy is they even dont know that.

Maybe sometimes it would be helpful if we could undo the link between democracy and the west. I think the chinese have an enormous potential because despite the big problems they have to face, they have still the ability to stay pragmatic. What we see is always a big mix between ideals, hopes, fears, struggle for power, and all kind of emotional dilemmas that human mind has to face. There can never be a perfect result...but lets work on it...

We might not have freedom of speech in China, but have our voices been taken into account in your so-called 'free' country?
