Fanny Brice could do it all sing, dance, act. She could make you laugh and cry. Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn were close friends of Ms. Brice and always felt that in real life she was the epitome of elegance.
Actually this song is "When A Woman Loves A Man". Annette Hanshaw also did an excellent version of it. That's Robert Armstrong at 1:22, in his pre King King days.
Fanny was the 1st woman comedian star and a Ziegfeld Follies sensation for nearly a decade. See more about her life and career in Sirens of The Roaring 20's Fanny Brice.
Hey people. I´m looking for the lyrics. I want to print the song out, b/c I want to sing the song. Does anyone know where to find the lyrics? Can´t really find in the net.
For goodness sake, who cares any more about Jewish, Black, West, East or whatever - talent is talent and always lingers far beyond changing alliances and politics.
Women were so feminine then. And cute. The music was cute. The styles were cute. I used to think those were the "olden days", my mother being born in 32. But she was only 26 years older than me. Lol.
She did indeed have a great figure and Streisand's facial resemblance to Brice is clear here. But they are two very different artists in so many ways and Streisand never right out imitated Brice. More accurately, she interpreted her. Brice could do virtually any kind of song, and Streisand followed in that tradition. Both represent strong, self-directed, intense women and artists who lived life fearlessly. But who loved deeply, too. Both are amazing talents.
When Fanny Brice divorced Billy Rose, she placed the following ad in the papers: Billy Rose, having left my bed bored, I am not be responsible for his debts. What a great sense of humor!
She looked almost identical to the way my Mexican Shefard grandmother looked back in the 1920s from photos.
The video stopped playing for me a 1:09... Too bad. She was quite an entertainer, a lot liek Streisand who perfected a lot of her moves, by the way! Not to me funny but of great musicial comedy film significance!
people just don't sing like this anymore :(

She had a terrific figure and wore clothes like a million dollars. The facial resemblance here to Streisand is the most pronounced I've ever seen.

Jewish women should feel strong, proud, and pretty pleased.
As an Irish-American woman, they are my "heroes."
