Robert was not able to break chopsticks in half well.

Thus he sharpens the part which protruded with a knife.

I think the uneven separation of the chopsticks was bugging him, so he decided to remedy it by shaving the end off the more offensive stick, as it were.

I can tell you that this is a wonderful footage of The Cure's 1984 concert in Japan (yesterday they played for the first time in 23 years after this concert, I think). This song is amazing, sounds like Arabic music.
