I think FCC standard have something to do with that flaw. There is no way a detector in your car will get that close to an RDD in a patrol car anyway.
I live in NC and i do own the Bel Sti driver, I've been to Virginia back and forth, With my radar ON, With exactly no problem at all!! The bel sti is definatelly the best radar detector out there!!!
preety much 100% undetectable in real life conditions...unless the police officers teleport themselve inside every car and point the rdd at the dash :D BUT why is the Sti driver the only one 100% proof ? is it the magnesium construction ? could some alumminium foil covering the inside of the case of say.. vector 995 .. be just as good ? i mean to cover the whole plastic case, just leave the plastic "window" to be able to detect radars. !?!? what do you think ?
Noticed the sti was alerting k and ka how far away does the sti detect the spectre?

well if you live in the state of virginia where they are illegal it looks like you are safe with the STI....fine piece of equipment

So the Sti can only be detected if it is really close to the RDD? If so when will it stop being detected distance wise?

short answer is NO, most of the radiation is out of the antenna so you wont be spectre proof with a 995, infact I can detect a 995 at 500 mtrs away.
STi is not the only one, there is the Escort 9500Ci, STiR, StiR plus
