This clip hits the nail on the head. Doing small things to stop global warming isn't going to have any effect. The economic cost of preventing this "disaster" is huge. It would be much less costly to just relocate Venice and a few other coastal cities than to essentially shut down our society.

I hope you realize that "one degree warmer in the summer" over the whole planet = considerable increase in the atmosphere's net energy content. That's the kind of energy that produces stronger hurricanes, increased flooding for some and increased drought for others.

Climate change isn't just about feeling hot in the summer, or even feeling bad about polar bears. Climate change means destruction of countless lives through disasters we're not prepared for. Wake up - it's already happening.

PunkMartyr: It used to be like that in the old days. In the small towns often you could spend your whole life within a few blocks. I have known a few people that never went more then a few blocks from birth to death.

Nowadays it seems you have to go a few miles to do almost anything, we need to get back to some of the old ways hopefully without living like pioneers. Hopefully without slowing our technology or severely lowering our lifestyle.

PunkMartyr: It used to be employers would mainly hire a local work force. Shop keepers used to live above/in their stores so they could watch their kids and work at the same time. The grocery store, doctor, pharmacy, church, courthouse, police station, firehouse and hardware store and employers were a few blocks from each other. The small town life used to be nice but a little Claustrophobic.

PunkMartyr: Many would get wanderlust. Now we have to drive 30 minutes to get a gallon of milk and wonder why people have road rage. In the old day people used to deliver milk, doctors used to make house calls. In the old days we used to take our kids to the school parking lot to learn how to ride a bike or skateboard, now you can get cited for doing that thanks to fascist liberals.

PunkMartyr: Nowadays the politically correct thing to do is drive your kids and yourself to go exercise. Soccer practice, gym school, bike path, ect... In many cities the public transportation is a joke. Most busses have very limited lines, limited hours. Trolleys are train travel is disappearing. I think walking, running or biking to school, work, gym, and sports often make more sense. I like the idea of networked on demand light rail.

PunkMartyr: Even at the gym people are nuts, they will drive miles, but insist parking as close to the door as possible just to go in and run on the treadmill. I think it's foolish and inconsiderate. Often people that are going to the gym for rehabilitation after an injury and can barely walk, have to park farther away so they can do water aerobics ect...

I've even heard some of them tout how much cleaner things would be if we all used horses, they have obviously never worked on a farm or ridden behind a team of horses. Horses emit CO2 gas and many gaseous hydrocarbons, all of which are global warming gases. To you New York City the car was a blessing. Imagine the streets of New York if everyone rode horses.

I distinctly recall a Hollywood "award" ceremony about 10 years ago, or so, where rich & popular people were given this little award (a small globe) for their fine examples of doing 'Earth friendly work.' They all arrived in minivans. The press cooed over them and their "awareness" and their arrival in minivans.

It happened to be the only time they ever arrived anywhere in minivans. The awards and/or ceremony has since been forgotten/abandoned, or just doesn't get any press anymore.
