@HughieMunro thats not ture you just dont know how to tuen them right...its a skill such as buliding an engine, you need to take time doing it not just think its tuned and blast the rc around. you acutlly gotta do test runs with it and notice the differences. if you cant do that then just get of running nitro. electric is for people who dont like to tune and just like to start it.
@HughieMunro Idunno 'bout that, bub. My Os single is stone cold reliable. It NEVER steers me wrong or acts up, and I don't have to touch the carb for six months at a time! Methinks you just got a crummy engine or can't tune.
If it runs on nitro, does it really need a distributor? i mean, nitro glow plugs stay hot by themselves after the engine temp is up. Or does nitro work with spark plugs as well?
@Natesmodelrailroad Your high school didn't have shop class did it? a distributor _distributes_ a spark at the correct time. As the RPM's climb, it will advance the timing of the spark to compensate the time it takes the fuel/air to burn. The Carburetor, is what controls how much fuel/air gets dumped down the intake manifold.
@Heraclidaeus I'm not an auto tech, but I know what a distributor does. The reason I asked that is because nitro engines rely on glow plugs for their heat, somewhat similar to a diesel. I didn't know it was a spark-fired engine instead.
We did have shop, but due to medical reasons, I could not take the class.
@Natesmodelrailroad Nitro engines dont use glow plugs. Full size nitromethane engines have 2 spark plugs per cylinder with their sparks powered by DUAL 44 AMP MAGNETOS

AlchemistHawk 1 year ago
@AlchemistHawk It has to have a distributor to keep the air/fuel mixture correct, otherwise it won't combust.
