if skyrim's combat system was better I would like that game as much as I like dark souls, it feels like I am just hitting through the enemies, and not hitting them
Also, dont worry about missing stuff. The world of Skyrim is much too big to worry about that. There are many different ways to play and everyone has their own style of play.
Skyrim is a very easy game...until you try going into dwarven ruins for example at an early level lol. The game is a little too easy which is one of my complaints but it is still a very fun game.
@Dashiznit1997 try both...dark souls combat may spoil u, and wen u get to skyrim, itll feel really clunky, but if ur all for running around exploring a world, then id go with skyrim.
@Dashiznit1997 I heard that the patches have helped that problem, but my copy never worked correctly even after the patch. It crashed every 5 minutes, and I eventually got rid of it.
@SuperFreezman I gave it to a friend, who experienced the same problem I did. I don't know if there was a manufacturing error with that disc or what, but the problem occurred on 3 different PS3's.
As for replacing it- no. Bethesda will never get any more money from me. In fact, I feel like they owe me.
@arnoldlayne111 That was the first fix I tried. It didn't work. Patching didn't work. I tried it on another system, and it still didn't work. I gave it to a friend, and it didn't work for him either.
The fixes solved the problems for a lot of people, but they didn't help me at all.
and just so you know, if you're a mage, you need soul gems, and lots of them. There is a spell call soul trap that when cast on an enemy, you have 60 seconds to kill him/her to capture their soul into the soul gem. You need bigger/stronger soul gem to capture stronger enemies. Soul gems helps recharge enchanted weapons; also it helps enchant armours and weapons to make stronger protection from attks, and stronger weapon attks
my ps3 wont read my cds. it goes in normally but when its actually in it makes that ejection sound but dosnt eject the cd and then it dosnt read it. im sad can someone help?
@omenajari Clean the DVD by gently wiping it with a soft cloth from the INSIDE rim (where the hole is) to the outer rim vertically,DO NOT wipe the disc from side to side.If none of your discs load up then your PS3's drive needs looking at.
just a heads up if you are cautious about trip wires now later in the game u will start seeing locked doors and locked chests that have trip wires attacked to them also look into smithing/enchanting those 2 skills can make you alot of money and make you stronger. finally check the different perk trees because it can help you plan out how you want to build your character. if you focus on say 1h over 2h then its not impossible for 1h weapons to greatly overpower the 2h in the long run per hit
bro in the begining just push the circle button bring up the map then push square and it shows the local map. sooo. you can find out where the mother fucken trader is... lol ;-)
If you plan on getting the best of anything, weapons or armor, you have to learn how to forge. Forging needs tools and most importantly, ores and ingots; pick those things up anytime you come across 'em.
Yo Epic, there isn't a proper "trader"; pretty much anyone who sells stuff also buys. But only general stores will buy anything, blacksmith buys weapons, etc.

Morrowind basically nailed it for the TES series. It wouldn't even be a prob if they built this game for the PC first, then strip it down for the consoles like they did for MW.

@commonlemme I activated it on purpose and backed away to see what it does. When you get near, it gives you the option to do so. As you can see, I walked away unharmed :P
@MentalRoXXorGear You can only hotkey two items or spells in Skyrim for the PS3, but you could hotkey 4 weapons / shields, 5 items, and many spells in DkS.
Skyrim does have a lot more spells, which is why the control scheme is a bit lackluster to me. I have to open the favorite menu every time I want to use something other than my primary 2 spells or weapons. Of course, it's a PC game ported for consoles, so it's to be expected I guess.
Well, uh, I won't disagree with you on the control point (I honestly preferred the 8 hotkeys from Oblivion, though I understand the favourites system is more practical for mage builds), but, well, it's actually a console game ported to PC. I'm not meaning to say the game is 'dumbed down' or anything but the UI is pretty rough on PC.

You need a bed to sleep, but not one to wait, so that can cut down time searching for a bed. When firing your bow you need a full draw to be effective. Eating ingredients will tell what the effect is, however you need a higher Alchemy skill to learn other effects of the item. The soul gems are used to enchant items as well as recharge magical items. Playing as cautious as you do in Dark Souls here is also not as necessary, as sneaking has the same effect no matter how fast you move.
Sorry if someone said it already, you can eat the ingredients to find out what effects they have.... Also the soul gems are used to restore the uses on enchanted weapons

@epic awe man that's a tough one. So many good games back then but unfortunately games were $50 back then! As u remember. I'd have to go with punch out most def. uh rygar,tecmo bowl,ninja gaiden(all of them), metroid, ghosts and goblins, Zelda 1, and the castlvanias. I'm sure I'm leaving out some.

1. u dont have to sleep to wait..just press select...you will see xD
2. if u got problems finding a house or something (like the trader) just go into the map - while in the world map, press square to enter the local map.
3. remember to draw your bow back completely, if u just "press" the button u shoot just like 2 feet

There´s a problem with the ps3 version of the game. If your savegame gets bigger than 5MB , there will be framerate problems and shit. I heared that u cannot finish some quests. My savegame is at 10 MB and unplayable now -.- . They will fix it with a patch, i heared it will come out after thanksgiving

Love how this game saves over my manual save with a auto save that looks like a manual save whenever I make a new character... I've had to make new users on my ps3 just to make new toons
@EpicNameBro the two handed weapons and magic strategy is fine if you are going for heavy armor, but for sneaking I would highly recommend sticking with a one handed blade, because then you can backstab once your sneak gets high enough and you can keep magic in one hand for some continuous all range damage. A two handed weapon restricts you from wielding anything else at the same time and it is slow so you will get hit with it and light armor does not stack well with heavy hits.
Yo Epic, quick tip: Since I can't link it - go to the gamefaqs boards and look up 'A Brief History of the Fourth Era'. It gives you some very quick background info on what's going on in the world. Don't worry, it's short and summarized, and once you read it, you'll actually understand what's going on with this whole Imperials vs. Stormcloaks conflict. It'll make the main questline as well as the civil war questline a lot more interesting and involving.
Yo epic heres a quick tip, if you do the lttle side quest that the wood cutter gives you he'll become available to be a companion. Then you can pay for the archery lessons, go into his inventory and take back the money. Free unlimited archery :)

Not aureus anyone mentioned this yet, but if you can't see your health or magic bars it's because they're full. Also the reason you couldnt see your robes at the blacksmith vendor is because you wont see anything they wont buy from you. Just means you gotta find a different vendor. Good luck. Hope you get to the college soon. I think you'll favor magic over your bow.

I can't predict what will be done with the bugs. I can only hope that they learned their lesson from Fallout. I was seriously wavering over whether to buy this BECAUSE of Bethesda's bad reputation. It's sad that I can't just say "buy it" due to the company's rep, but they've done it to themselves. It's fun though... that much I CAN say.

Glad you got an English copy brother, after putting over 200 hours into DS and watching all of those vids, I can say that the combat in this game pales and comparison and I don't get the rush I get from Souls games either, but Skyrim is a triumph and I will spend ALL winter playing this with you!!

I mean, it's really like he said in the first video. Dark Souls is an action game with RPG elements. And Skyrim is an RPG with Action elements. They are vastly different in how they're played and not only how they're played, but also how they were designed to be experienced. Skyrim is an adventure discovery game with action, and Dark Souls was more of an Action Chess game, where every battle was a puzzle in and of itself.

@epicnamebro I don't know if you know this but if you can't find a trader or certain building they are highlighted on the local map.
Also be aware of how much magicka is required to cast vs damage done. Like flames vs fire bolt. At early levels before unlocking the apprentice destruction perk the flames spell will do more damage over time using less magicka. You might have already figured this out.
Aight...I think I'm just going to get the damn game today. I'll just have to accept the fact that it's not Dark Souls and try not to compare the two, as hard as that might be. I'm sure taken on its own merits it's probably pretty good. I'm a little scared about the bugginess but I'm counting on Bethesda to handle they biz. I hope my trust in them isn't ill-placed.

Nah, you can always add &t=[x]m[y]s to your video links. Replace [x] and [y] with the time you want, omitting the brackets of course. That tracks the video to the minute and second where you want it to load from. That way you can put a sort of virtual bookmark on the video if you can't watch all of it at once.
Companions are Warewolf! I became one... and i am fucking powerful!!! No cons at all but a lost of 5% bonus when sleeping... You gain 100% resistance to desease and the power to turn into a warewolf, which skyrockets your strenght and speed. AMAZING!
When shooting your bow in the middle of a fight don't just tap the fire button. You have to hold it down long enough for your character to nock the arrow completely and pull it back otherwise it'll only fly maybe a few feet.

I don't think that the From swapping system would work in Skyrim, really, simply because there's so many spells.
But of course, you could have a seperate favourites menu for spells which swaps from a select few.

@MentalRoXXorGear You can only hotkey two items or spells in Skyrim for the PS3, but you could hotkey 4 weapons / shields, 5 items, and many spells in DkS.
Skyrim does have a lot more spells, which is why the control scheme is a bit lackluster to me. I have to open the favorite menu every time I want to use something other than my primary 2 spells or weapons. Of course, it's a PC game ported for consoles, so it's to be expected I guess.

Well, uh, I won't disagree with you on the control point (I honestly preferred the 8 hotkeys from Oblivion, though I understand the favourites system is more practical for mage builds), but, well, it's actually a console game ported to PC. I'm not meaning to say the game is 'dumbed down' or anything but the UI is pretty rough on PC.

Yeah, but it's a shame the rest of the UI is pretty awful on the PC. So much wasted screen real estate. It's better than Oblivion's (barely) but not a patch on Morrowind's. At least it can be modded.

You need a bed to sleep, but not one to wait, so that can cut down time searching for a bed. When firing your bow you need a full draw to be effective. Eating ingredients will tell what the effect is, however you need a higher Alchemy skill to learn other effects of the item. The soul gems are used to enchant items as well as recharge magical items. Playing as cautious as you do in Dark Souls here is also not as necessary, as sneaking has the same effect no matter how fast you move.

If you go mostly stealth, theres a nice perk later that gives you x15 damage when using knives for sneak attacks

@epic awe man that's a tough one. So many good games back then but unfortunately games were $50 back then! As u remember. I'd have to go with punch out most def. uh rygar,tecmo bowl,ninja gaiden(all of them), metroid, ghosts and goblins, Zelda 1, and the castlvanias. I'm sure I'm leaving out some.

couple of pro tips for ma bro ^^
1. u dont have to sleep to wait..just press select...you will see xD
2. if u got problems finding a house or something (like the trader) just go into the map - while in the world map, press square to enter the local map.
3. remember to draw your bow back completely, if u just "press" the button u shoot just like 2 feet
im a noob myself and i got probs with the stupid quickbutton stuff too, it does weird shit.
also i did not know u can chop wood thanks ^^

It's the best hobby I could ask for, and I've met some really amazing people, too.

There´s a problem with the ps3 version of the game. If your savegame gets bigger than 5MB , there will be framerate problems and shit. I heared that u cannot finish some quests. My savegame is at 10 MB and unplayable now -.- . They will fix it with a patch, i heared it will come out after thanksgiving

@EpicNameBro the two handed weapons and magic strategy is fine if you are going for heavy armor, but for sneaking I would highly recommend sticking with a one handed blade, because then you can backstab once your sneak gets high enough and you can keep magic in one hand for some continuous all range damage. A two handed weapon restricts you from wielding anything else at the same time and it is slow so you will get hit with it and light armor does not stack well with heavy hits.

Yo Epic, quick tip: Since I can't link it - go to the gamefaqs boards and look up 'A Brief History of the Fourth Era'. It gives you some very quick background info on what's going on in the world. Don't worry, it's short and summarized, and once you read it, you'll actually understand what's going on with this whole Imperials vs. Stormcloaks conflict. It'll make the main questline as well as the civil war questline a lot more interesting and involving.

Yo epic heres a quick tip, if you do the lttle side quest that the wood cutter gives you he'll become available to be a companion. Then you can pay for the archery lessons, go into his inventory and take back the money. Free unlimited archery :)

Not aureus anyone mentioned this yet, but if you can't see your health or magic bars it's because they're full. Also the reason you couldnt see your robes at the blacksmith vendor is because you wont see anything they wont buy from you. Just means you gotta find a different vendor. Good luck. Hope you get to the college soon. I think you'll favor magic over your bow.

Epic, I need a brother's advice... after watching vids of this game, it seems to be basically a medieval clone of Fallout 3 and New Vegas (have you played either?). That said, though, it DOES still look like a pretty cool game. My main worry is Bethesda's track record with debug- generally pretty atrocious. Would you recommend Skyrim based on your experience with it so far? Thanks!

I can't predict what will be done with the bugs. I can only hope that they learned their lesson from Fallout. I was seriously wavering over whether to buy this BECAUSE of Bethesda's bad reputation. It's sad that I can't just say "buy it" due to the company's rep, but they've done it to themselves. It's fun though... that much I CAN say.

I mean, it's really like he said in the first video. Dark Souls is an action game with RPG elements. And Skyrim is an RPG with Action elements. They are vastly different in how they're played and not only how they're played, but also how they were designed to be experienced. Skyrim is an adventure discovery game with action, and Dark Souls was more of an Action Chess game, where every battle was a puzzle in and of itself.

You can fast travel to locations you have already discoverd using your map(sorry if this was pointless knowledge to you :P)
Also if you "walk" slower you are harder to dectect in "Sneak Mode"

You dont have to sleep to make time pass, there is a "rest" key, try pressing [Select] or something, dont know the PS3 button for it :P
Also dont play 2 characters, waste of time.
Imperial or Rebel makes little to no difference, also even if you picked Rebel at the start you can still join the empire if you want to insted :p

@epicnamebro I don't know if you know this but if you can't find a trader or certain building they are highlighted on the local map.
Also be aware of how much magicka is required to cast vs damage done. Like flames vs fire bolt. At early levels before unlocking the apprentice destruction perk the flames spell will do more damage over time using less magicka. You might have already figured this out.

Aight...I think I'm just going to get the damn game today. I'll just have to accept the fact that it's not Dark Souls and try not to compare the two, as hard as that might be. I'm sure taken on its own merits it's probably pretty good. I'm a little scared about the bugginess but I'm counting on Bethesda to handle they biz. I hope my trust in them isn't ill-placed.

Nah, you can always add &t=[x]m[y]s to your video links. Replace [x] and [y] with the time you want, omitting the brackets of course. That tracks the video to the minute and second where you want it to load from. That way you can put a sort of virtual bookmark on the video if you can't watch all of it at once.

Companions are Warewolf! I became one... and i am fucking powerful!!! No cons at all but a lost of 5% bonus when sleeping... You gain 100% resistance to desease and the power to turn into a warewolf, which skyrockets your strenght and speed. AMAZING!

When shooting your bow in the middle of a fight don't just tap the fire button. You have to hold it down long enough for your character to nock the arrow completely and pull it back otherwise it'll only fly maybe a few feet.
