Someone got his guitar untuned on "Broken wings" when I saw them in Rome (Italy) last december. He didn't stop, though, cause the problem manifested only on the arpeggio parts at the end.

... I'll bet the tech was yelling at him to stop the song and holding out the axe he needed. Short of running on stage and tapping Mark on the shoulder there's not a lot the tech can do except wait for Mark to realise his mistake. Or realise that the tech messed up!

Speaking as both a roadie and a performer both scenarios are possible and happen all the time. Nobody will get fired for it, they'll both have a laugh about it after the show. It's the things like that that make each night special.

The guitar tech will have a setlist clearly marked with whatever guitars in whatever tuning are needed for each song. The performer and tech will have worked out a system whereby instruments are exchanged between songs, usually the guitarist goes to the side of the stage and hands the tech the old guitar and takes the waiting new one. Maybe the tech DID give Mark the wrong guitar but MAYBE Mark was caught up in the moment of the gig and just started the next song...

Actually, Mark doesn't tune his guitars himself when playing live, some other guys do it backstage during the songs. So Mark either chose the wrong guitar (which i highly doubt) or one of the tuning guy messed up. Either way it's a really funny mistake :).

this is part of why hes my fav. guitarist. he is one of us, he had to work hard playing 8-9 hours a day to be as good as he is now, and he makes mistakes just like a normal person would. he isn't like all those "guitar gods" but i think he is on his way to being the best modern day guitarist, if he isn't already.
