Amazing video. Here we have a woman in danger of being murdered by a man who has kidnapped her and locked her in the boot of his car. But then she is saved when the car crashes and the man is knocked out, leaving her with time to escape... this is symbolic for how sometimes in life bad things that happen can actually help you out. The woman is then forced to find her "spark", otherwise known as her will to live; her animus.
She does find her spark when she swims through the waters while tied up; a feat that required much courage. Then when she finally finds what should be safety, in the form of two people on the road, she is let down and left to die despite her efforts. In this sense the twins in the car could represent religion and its tendency to let people down.
When Tori miscarried, she was told it was OK because the angels were with her. The twins in the car represent the angels, and Tori's anger at them.
I think the twins actually represent the pagan ideal of duality of nature. Aire signs represent this ideal. IT is a visual aspect of balance. I would think in this case it would be doing what is right for yourself and others. Although she has found her spark of courage to pursevere on, the girls in the car haven't and they turn a blind eye to someone else's struggle.

I can say this . I have heard these songs along time ago - years ago . and liked them for some hidden feeling.. but now that i am more critically connecting her video artistry with the lyrics i find much easier. Why be adicted to nicotine patches ? for that why not just continue being "addicted" to the real thing-ciggerates..
She presents the complex questions . HOnest and raw. SHe even shows truth. I could def. write an easy. Your answer is surprising. I myself am like a spiritual hippy. I think Christianity contains a lot of valuable lessons. But for the most part (i.e. other than the fundamental commands like blasphemy and murder) I don't really follow the Mosaic law. I do believe in sin, but I will commit a lot of minor sins without thinking much about it like listening to bands like Slipknot and Marilyn Manson.
umm... for my religion, there isnt really any sin and we arnt shriveled up and dead... the closest thing we have to sinning is being disloyal, cowardly and not being joyful... but then again since our gods are our kin we dont become slaves to them and beg for everything instead of working for it...

Quite often the most terrible of occurences can create the most beautiful songs. I remember seeing an interview where Tori was asked about the terrible things in her life that she'd written songs about. She said that it wasn't a simple case of 'venting' or a way of coping. But if something destructive happens to you in life, the best thing you can do is turn it around into something creative. Taking something bad and making it positive.

One of my favorite Tori songs and videos aside from the songs and videos off the first album.This song is so sad,foreboding and triumphant! I always loved it! I've seen her 5 or 6 times in concert and actually met her in 1992 when she was still relatively unknown! She sure has come a long way. I am glad she finally had a child and has a successful career, because she definitely paid her dues! Long live Tori!
