This segment was directed by Studio Ghibli's Isao Takahata, and animated by Osamu Tanabe. Tanabe had worked on all of Takahata's films at Ghibli (Grave of the Fireflies, Omohide Poro Poro, Pom Poko, My Neighbors the Yamadas). More recently, Tanabe directed a number of short films, which appear on the Ghibli Short Short DVD in Japan.
