I had a 1965 series 2 swb land rover in MG red (in factory con) and it was an absolute joy to be in! I love the pure simple honesty of a land rover. They do what they are meant to do with no gimicky gadgets! The old ones (60s and before) are the best 4x4s in existence.

I found out how to get Defenders (including diesel models that get x2 the fuel economy) available in America!!! Step 1: Register to vote. Step 2: Vote for Ron Paul who would then deregulate the market, thereby getting rid of regulation requirements on airbags. Step 3: Once he deregulated the markets, go on down to your local Land Rover dealership and say, "I'd like to buy a Defender please."

People that say these are the best cars ever don't know what the hell they are talking about. I own one & I love it, but they have so many design flaws it's ridiculous. The damn thing is constantly breaking down & needing repair. Out of the 10+ cars I've owner it is by far the least reliable. Cool, yes. Great shape & looks, yes. Best car ever- hell no!

the problem with land rover was the old management and the screwes land rover. bmw, ford just used the company and put nothing in. now that tata has it lets hope they will put defender back on top. sounds like they will. china got british-layland and no one gave a hoot. puls the british didn't buy B.L cars. if you don't like defender don't buy it, if you like it buy one .

land rover range rover is rubbish and disco as well because both of them have unibody car like chassis.but this defender have ladder chassis which makes it very tough. defender rocks

He forgot to mention about its shocking build quality - the first generations were being fixed more often than driven. It is being considered as legendary ( but lets be honest - only by brits ) only because they never had money to build something new and competitive, so it looked exactly the same - same chassis, same interior, same stone-age engines. And why don't you tell about its market share wherever people could actually choose what off-roaders they want to buy, including UK market ?

It was never meant to compete with any other vehicles, since it's in a class of its own, and has been imitated countless times by Japanese and German companies. In any case, the Defender is set to be replaced with an all-new vehicle in the next couple of years.

@thefilmmakerpro Dude...an offroad car makes an excelent first car, my first car was (still is) a Nissan Terrano II diesel, and I can tell you, the driving heigh gives you a lot of visibility which is ideal when you don't have enough experience...despite its sizer it's very easy to park, believe me, a very good first car! But be prepared, they're really "hungry" cars... lol
