  • 1. yes, there's an obvious similarity to the damned track, but it's been transformed into a different line by KJ.

    2. nirvana obviously stole the exact riff from KJ

    3. I've spoken to someone in KJ and they rightly sued Nirvana, but in the end said, "fuck it" when kurt died.

but really, who gives a shit? enjoy rock.

  • @vicdmise 1. NO. Killing Joke has the same riff as the damned.

    2. NO. Come as you are's riff is different.

  • every time this song started thought fantastic killing joke

  • nirvana said that first they wanted to be a cover band

  • They both nicked it off the Damned's "Life Goes On"...so there.

  • @jamesserpo Too bad Killing joke was around before the Damned..so there :)

  • this is awesome

  • Nice job :)

    I love both anyway

  • chalk it up to a dance remix and for get the debate

  • I want a mp3 of this...

  • Nirvana Clip sounds sped up... is it?

  • A similar progression is used in "End of the Night" by the Doors.

  • @isaaccobainner I think it has to be to keep up with the tempo of eighties

  • @isaaccobainner sped up? nah dude, its so much slower.

  • 'PS: The guitar part for Come As You Are is the same as a song called the Eighties by Killing joke' - Kurt Cobains Journal

  • nirvana the best

  • Triple threat, Nirvana VS Killing Joke VS The Damned. No holds barred Come as you are

  • You should do a cross between Love Like Blood and Smells Like Teen Spirit as well

  • pretty much the same song though

  • Nirvana's is better sorry

  • This is not a "mash-up" its proof of Nirvana's plagiarism.

  • @wnlynch Of who? The Damned "Life Goes On" or Killing Joke? ...or of whomever came up with this riff before them that we have yet to find?

  • @wnlynch So?

  • The artist known as RIAA, aka Mr. Fab, did this mashup. The video "Ashes To 80s" has better visuals. Give propers to RIAA/Mr. Fab, he rocks hard.

  • "OMG you bastards stole my box-riff!!" pointless

  • "life goes on" by The Damned. Nuff said.

  • You forget to mentioned Pink Floyd's Lucifer Sam

  • OMG!! in fact, this sounds very good !!!!

  • Very clever. Think Killing Joke win the argument. But hey, this is Rock'n'Roll... everyone is 'INFLUENCED' by everyone else

  • Sure, it's a "tribute" when another band steals your riff-- but it stops being a "tribute" when their theft of your riff takes money out of your pocket. Yeah, I'd be "honored" if somebody stole my riff and made a sh!tload of dough off it, while I'm stuck hustling record companies to put out my music and scraping money together to pay for a North American tour. "Honored" is not what I''d feel-- but I'm sure my arse would be sore.

  • @djb1969 I would call it musical interpretation. if it is so serious then how come we haven't seen loads of court cases since the early to mid 90's? yes, they made money from it, yes killing joke were going to file for copyright breach which they dropped (due to Kurt's death), yes it sounds near enough identical, but the fact still remains that Nirvana made it into a completely different song, different feel, style and meaning.

  • Every riff possible has already been recorded. What can you do

  • I'm a huge Nirvana fan, and I'm not saying this to start anything and I know this has probably been said over and over but I hope all the Killing Jokes fantards out there realize that Killing Joke probably "stole" the riff from The Damned - Life Goes On. But hey some 12 year old fanboy will probably tell me I'm wrong and Killing Joke somehow went into the past and released Eighties first or something. Oh well..

  • who thinks this mash-up shoulda been longer? i certainly do!

  • Come As You Are sounds better. Therefore, they're two completely different songs.

  • How about killing joke quit fucking bitching about this and feel honored. They obviously did take the fucking song anywhere and kurt took it around the world. Plus they probably just used old equipment to record a new song that sounded remotely like it. Idgaf honestly because in the long run Nirvana is just a better if u wanna give the bitches their bottle than let em have come as you are because nirvanas got tons more far better songs. Omg abandthatconqueredthefuckingworldinayearcovered us!

  • killing joke have better art work

  • it's just a guitar riff, they're not all unique nor are they supposed to.

At least nirvana made a good song out of it, while killing joke made a bad monotone song that only has that guitar bit throughout, bad drumming and nothing behind it.

  • @girlie347 You are obviously speaking out of your arse! Nirvana were big KJ fans and knew how awsome 'Eighties' was and still is.

  • Нирвана круче всех.

  • um, yeah...so what? you missed it kj. it happens.don't cry

  • didn't know there were meth versions of songs...

  • this is my new favourite song

  • It's considered by some musicians to be the ultimate compliment in music, i don't care both songs are good to me

  • This needs a solo, the solo of the cover on "smells like bleach a punk tribute" could ve awesome

  • Being influenced be someone is one thing, but out right thievery is just F#@KED UP!

  • yeah kurt admitted in one of his journals that he took the riff from killing joke funny though cuz killing joke took the riff from the damned

  • Who gives two shits, there both good. Inspire to be Inspired.

  • Who has the copyrights to Nirvana's music now? Courtney Love? Could Killing Joke bring a lawsuit against her? Too late huh? damn.

  • @carliebee I think his daughter now owns it all since she's over 18.

  • I wasn't so sure about this whole robbery of the riff but now you've speeded it up.. ah. Still i'd love to have seen both bands perform this together XD x

  • This is pretty cool, nice job.

  • I agree, this is better than both. The only thing that I dont like out of the situation is that KJ made a big deal about copyright instead of being cool like The Damned and just simply ignoring it.

  • @MeanT241985 lawsuits about this kind of stuff are made by the record company, not just the band in question

  • Hmm...sounds like it's in the same key to me!

I smell copyright infringement here... Killing Joke should take legal action!

  • @ryanspeed ...They did, but dropped the suit when Cobain died.

  • thanks for exposing lame nirvana , greendays worse

  • Somebody should make a mix that indcludes The Damned's "Life Goes On", which I think is where this riff originally comes from. Funny that Killing Joke accused Nirvana for stealing their song...

  • @MheAd80 um..i think someone did. however, it sucks. it's out of tune.

  • @MheAd80 yeah but the damned's version is far different in structure

  • as much as i like KJ and dislike Nirvana it has to be said nirvana has improved this basic riff into a song with more depth and content

  • this settles it- combine them both for a super version----- well done!

  • Makes both songs sound better.

  • This is too fucking good.

  • @Futuremonkee what is?

  • Somethings are better off LEFT ALONE.

    Both bands have been around for a long time;

perhaps they'd appreciate this as some sort of tribute,

perhaps Not. If the songs sound good on their own,

    DON'T FUCK WITH THEM.

  • Killing Joke lifted the riff from a Damned song called Life Goes on.

  • cool

  • Gotta love Killing Joke :P

  • i love the originals but this is just awesome :) luv it

  • I love this!

  • This is great! With a bit of work it could be a gem

  • owns<333

  • I like its almost better than both in a way haha.

  • awesome =)
